Thanks CosKev, I’m probably around the same distance from Oulton as you, I’m in Holmes Chapel. I haven’t booked any dates yet as we have a newborn baby so free time is a little more limited! I hope to get along to some of the monthly meetings come spring though :-)3 points

Hi Julie, Becky is very upset that you’ve not taken us to this windmill before you know what she’s like! I’m now getting grief as to why I haven’t taken her there if there’s a windmill that close to home, take care and see you soon Andy & Becky3 points

Hi Russ, managed to dig out various photo’s which show how the cut rear section of body attaches; you should see in the photos a small length of aluminium extrusion under the roll bar square mount, that piece fixes to the two holes in the bodywork, the rest is attached as usual (ie body to wheelarch and body to chassis at the very rear), hope this helps. @aeg when you are back on the road and get a weekend off work, I would love to take you both to the windmill, it is not far from Ashbourne, so it can easily be incorporated into one of our runs out. Also, when @AndrewBClarke has a weekend free we are going to Tuxford Windmill, I will let you know on that one, probably in March/April. Don't let me stop you going in the meantime though, Rebecca will love them, if you can get her away from the nail gun!!!! P.S @IanK (Bagpuss) please don't put the words GLEN and DRIVING in the same sentence, it frightens me2 points

What a brilliant day. Took us 4 hours to get to York which was about 30 miles away as the crow flies. Empty roads all day and good weather. Company, conversation and banter was first class. Thanks to Malc, Di and Rob for joining in all the fun and escapades. I leant two lessons today. Dont let anyone drive your car and dont go into a toilet that has no door handle.2 points

Can’t help but notice quite a few cars having been purchased/ fitted with proper front clamshell wings lately does that indicate a trend of new learned owners ?????1 point

Yes my first seven had cycle wings and tbh I like the look of both, but prefer the clamshells tbh it was a bit of a tongue in cheek comment as we often are the butt of the other lots jokes lol1 point

Ah, the impossible question! Westfields, and other similar cars, I guess, don’t behave like regular tin tops when it comes to second hand values, condition, condition, condition and spec. are everything. Age means comparatively little. Yet they aren’t quite like classic cars either, I guess the spec from Westfield to Westfield, along with things like build quality, just vary too much for their to be proper reasonably accurate price points for different models. Instead, you tend to get an odd pricing progress as the cars age. When nearly new they tend to be based off the new build price, adjusted for depreciation, build quality and to a lesser extent spec. After a few years or so, they move in to a sort of glorious middle age, where they’ll have taken a fair hit over new, but don’t really vary ,ugh either. Then you get into the real golden years of early cars, like yours. Sadly though, this is where the value becomes a real guessing game. The reality is that there is a huge mixed bag of cars this old, you could easily say an average car might be, for arguments sake £4/5000, BUT, the trouble is when you factor condition, build quality and (to a lesser extent spec) into it, that figure could easily be plus or minus £2000, so sort of becomes meaningless. Yours has a really nice spec from what I can see, and you say, (though the trouble with many upgrades is that while they make a car much more appealing, quite a few don’t really add much to the value, compared to their cost to buy and fit). Condition wise, though, from the photos, looks lovely and really good. (Admittedly, photos can be deceiving), equally, the underlying build quality looks really good, too. So I’d have thought yours should be towards the upper end of the price range. (Getting to the top tends to require both an exceptional car, and some added X factor, like some exceptional history, or being a class winning race car, etc). The really great news for you though, is that generally, as long as the car is kept in the same sort of condition it was bought in, or better, you tend to see very little more depreciation, for a long time. - I know people that have bought cars like yours, at good, fair prices, and sold them on after three or four years for the same money.1 point

I’d hope so... But more seriously, there are usually plenty of most style of Westfield for Sale if you step back and keep an eye on the market for a month or two. What really breaks my heart is seeing a nice condition tradition car bought and immediately ripped apart to have cycle wings, carbon replacement panels, full cages, stripped out interior etc fitted. Usually resulting in a more tatty looking car, with holes left where original fitments were. No, please don’t misunderstand me, I’ve nothing against this style of car, I used to own one, and would again. BUT, why not just start with one more like this in the first place, rather than taking away all the originality of a traditional car, that can never be put back again. I know we all like to stamp our own personality on these things, but that is possible without taking everything away from the original. Obviously, it’s different if the original bodywork is really tatty and just can’t be saved, but so often that’s not the case.1 point

That’s a nice looking car with proper front wings cant really help with your question but if you’ve recently purchased and are happy with what you paid then that’s all that matters. It’s really a mute point as unless speculating as an investment by the time you enjoy, potter and add your own touch the base cost soon becomes irrelevant as you never (or very rarely) get back what you put in so reap all the smiles you can, use her as much as you can , and most of all enjoy her as these things are priceless1 point

Perhaps the factory ought to look how well the bodywork fits at the rear and implement it on the FW rear ends ?1 point

these may also be worth a look, "Hankook Ventus V12 Evo 2 K120" wife had them on her last Mini and will probably put them on her new one when the time comes (about now), also think Son has these on his MX5 and he's happy with them.1 point

I've done 55,000 miles in the five or so years I've owned the car and it's on its second set, still with plenty of life, so mileage is pretty good too.1 point

I left it on. It was handy, but then my fog light does get used a bit up on the moors around Buxton and Derbyshire! it’s only been removed now, because the same functionality is built into the new Freewheel!1 point

Hi all. I made a few whispers last year about attending a local Lodge meet on Sunday but life got in the way. I will be making my way down this Sunday to the Lodge to this meet. I will be in the white family wagon, so please be kind!!!. Travelling from Ingatestone its only a 20 min drive for me to the Lodge. I am still on the hunt of a Westfield so i need to be guided through what i should and shouldn't be looking at. Thanks all Nick1 point
