  1. As mentioned above I fitted one and I noticed that there was less air noise from the rear of the car. The shape of the underside of the car without the diffuser is like a parachute and there is no way that air isn't being sucked up into the void around the diff and gas tank.....it's a huge open area and even if you don't look into it every day it's there and messing with the airflow. I'd be shocked if any kind of diffuser or simple cover in the rear didn't lower drag....realistically how could it not reduce drag? Does it produce downforce? Maybe, maybe not. If it does anything it might reduce lift some and I'd be surprised if it produced any negative lift at all. Pretty hard to tell without a controlled test in a wind tunnel. That said I'm fine with the idea of the reduced drag that seems likely. As for fussing with the aero on these cars - I hear many say that "once a brick, always a brick" or that doing aero work is like putting lipstick on a pig. While I get what they are saying I disagree. It's is of course correct that nothing we can do with these cars will make them slippery as a bar of soap or allow them to generate 3g's of downforce......but just because they can't be turned into F1 cars doesn't mean that there aren't real and substantial gains to be made with simple changes. The very fact that they are so bad aerodynamically means that small, but real, improvements are easy to come by. Low hanging fruit as they say. No one would say that taking off the windshield and fitting an aero screen doesn't have real benefits in terms of drag and top speed....why wouldn't similar simple changes such as running a tonneau cover or a rear diffuser also give marginal gains. If one does pragmatic and practical changes to reduce the HUGE drag these cars have then I'm sure that the "accumulation of marginal gains" thing kicks in and the car will be faster and easier to drive. As long as one doesn't add so much weight in the process that it negates any aero gains all should be good. I made a simple and small front splitter, enclosed the engine compartment with simple carbon panels and fitted a rear diffuser from Carbon NV which gives a flat and enclosed bottom from nose to tail and it added 6.2 pounds (2.8kg) to the weight of the car.....or the same as one gallon of petrol. Since adding that weight I put the car on a further diet and have pulled the equivalent weight off of other areas so the final weight is unchanged from last year's race weight but I have a fully enclosed floor. Will it produce downforce? Probably not but I'll be shocked if it doesn't reduce lift and drag some and that my lap times will fall by just a little bit. It might still be a pig but it's got nice lipstick and it's a bit trimmer and that makes for a faster pig. dave

  2. Interestingly, after I fitted mine it got pulled down on the motorway and fell off. Not sure if it was the diffuser itself producing 'downforce' or just air coming down the transmission tunnel, but it definitely got sucked downwards...

  9. To be fair - it's fairly common for an admin fee for any kind of change, as there will always be more to it than simply typing in a line of text. I know that if any of my clients get me to do something that takes maybe seconds, I need to charge a min 30 mins time to take into account the fact that I have to stop what I'm doing, change tack, read the options (or whatever) make the changes, save them, note the time taken for billing, then move on to a new task. It really does all add up!

  11. They'll turn against electric vehicles in 10 years time, it's all about propping up the automotive industry and very little to do with the environment. The average car is £25k, that's 5k VAT on every new car and currently around 2.5 to 3 million new cars sold every year (£12 billion a year for the treasury), that's without considering income tax from workers in car factories. Not only do our politicians have vested interests, but the govt itself NEEDS the automotive industry to keep selling at it's current rates. Back in 2008/2009 they actively promoted diesel cars and put on the scrappage scheme to rescue the industry during the recession, it's impossible to suggest they didn't know about NoX at that time and the reduced (or free in some cases) VED tax was always going to be unsustainable. When everyone owns electric vehicles, the loss to the treasury in VED alone will once again be unsustainable and the powers that be will start pushing toward something else. To make people buy new cars, all you need to do is give them a flimsy excuse. A fake scrappage scheme, £500 cashback, free tank of fuel, reduced VED, etc etc and people will flock like sheep to buy that new car, "saving money" by spending all their disposable income on yet another lease/pcp "deal".

  14. I wish it was that simple. With my car having a logbook now... I can choose from a wide ammount of classes from 1b tyres to slicks. SO, as I have to buy new tyres regardless of where I'm competing, and will be my last competitive season for a while I want it fun. And if my choosen class looks full and fun I can even try the Full championship so I want to enjoy it rather than be on my own as happened before.

  16. I do, I have a set of QED 450's They are used so may need a little fettle. I replaced them with QED450v when I had to have a head rebuild due to snapped dry sump pump belt. So kept these as 'spare'. Make me an offer, i'll be kind as you have just given me a starter motor. Do you have the solid lifters already?

  18. you probably forgot to attach it to the body. dont lie... and of course, it fell down because gravity **Editted** Now, being serious... probably was positive pressure in the bootbox area due the air being channeled trough the transmission tunnel and not securely fastened, so it blew the weaker "wall" However... to have positive pressure inside few bodywork seccions, it only means that the air is being trapped, nothing else. When you owned the car (even yet now) the rear diffuser was way too high and the fins are way to short to have any other effect than act as a undertray... Very different is whith the front splitter... as it really limits the ammount of air that is going under the nose... not generating anything but reducing the ammount of lift of course.

  23. Look at a formula 1 car and if you can create anything like it with the ability to drive it 5mm off the ground and you have flat boxed in undertray , frontal aerodynamics, wind tunnel tested then you should be OK. Otherwise, fitting a spoiler to a brick, still makes it a brick. As Kev says , it will keep the diff cleaner.

  28. Had a day off work today, had a few things to do, thankfully got an hour or 2 of actual free time ! So made a start on dragging the xflow into the modern era. Mounted my coil pack, using a Transit mount, and throttle position sensor, my Weber's don't have the 2 threaded holes for mounting, so got the new Dremel out and improvised. Toothed pulley and crank sensor to go on next time I get chance, then wire up the Nodiz ECU.

  29. I can't help think that the bubble HAS to burst but I have been saying that for the last couple of years. 911 prices started to show signs of softening last year but nothing significant. Frankly I do not care whether the value of mine goes up or down - I bought it to enjoy tinkering with, enjoy driving and hopefully to pass on to my 10 year old son at some point in the future

  30. Current classic car prices are just crazy. I never thought my little cars could be thought of as being in this category as they were intended to be individual pieces of “fun”motoring. They were fun then and I am sure now. i still remember driving number 1 and thinking great FUN!! Enjoy!
