I installed an ex-RAF Mach Meter on the dashboard of a Mk1 Fiesta 1.1L. I never managed to move the needle (but this was not for want of trying).2 points

I'm a little OCD when it comes to cleanliness so every car I have ever bought has been subjected to a deep clean, even brand new cars. End of a few days of intensive car cleaning with BMW waxed, Merc fully machine polished and waxed and today was the Westfields turn in readiness for a North Wales trip on Tuesday Front wheels off, cleaned and waxed, full clean and checkover of all suspension, bodywork clayed, prepped and topped off with a layer of Mitchell and King Japan, a lovely soft wax that I borrowed from a friend, not that the 20+ waxes I already have would not have done but always keen to try different ones2 points

Hmm, and after "your friend" buys it and fits it, will we mysteriously have that bit more trouble keeping up with you? Ahem, sorry, keeping up with "your friend"2 points

Back in my JDM loving youth, I had a JDM MR2 Turbo and I fitted an engine cover with two whacking great fans in it. It had no kind of controller, so sounded like it was going to take off. ETA it made no discernible difference to engine temperature.1 point

Tomorrow is starvation day, need to make sure I am really hungry for this. So much food.1 point

In my youth, which was longer ago than I would like it to be, the car fashion was Drag car inspired. My Capri had extended rear spring shackles, thrush side pipes and the most pointless of all a red light shinning on the diff and a white light in each wheel well. My perm was the most pointless personal modification!!1 point

Complete package 270 bhp Vaux XE. dry sump, exhaust manifold and silencer, throttle bodies, engine loom, pressure reg, alternator, twin plate clutch, steel flywheel, steel crank. 9000 rpm But if you need to ask how much I suspect it may be more than the amount you have in mind A1 point

I know who would do that! I hate it and want it gone, plan on changing that right away but also want to drive it as much as possible. That grill, the steering wheel and then add back struts and cross bar to the roll cage, and have a tonu made for the back.. She will be right. I most likely will paint the nose just yellow with no stripe.1 point

Closer to that than to looking like WD40, yes. It gives a “clingy” coating, that helps stop moisture and other nasties getting to the surface of the item being protected. The idea is you just leave it on over the weather period you’re trying to protect things from, topping up with a bit more as necessary. Parts can look quite shabby and mucky by spring, with all the crud stuck to it, but a good clean off leaves the surface below looking as good as it did before treatment.1 point

I bought mine in January last year. Aeroscreen car 180 miles about 3 degrees.... crisp but dry! I was chilled to the bone when I got home. I was running out of daylight by the end and did not want to be on the motorway at night, so the for last shelp on the M5 the wick was lit. Hit Bristol with the sun going down. What epic trip that was Pick up day is ace ....Have fun!1 point

Yup, my Porker wasn't the quietest - sounded great through the revs, but on the motorway at 80ish, roof down, with a de-cat straight through Direnza exhaust, the drone was awful - earplugs or noise cancelling earphones worked a treat!1 point

Bikers favourite! It might not look pretty, but it does help stop the nasty chemicals getting to the vulnerable steel. - Which reminds me, I really need to give mine a proper going over.1 point

We could just keep going for a winter curry until we bring our cars out in the summer and then meet in the pay and display above the park then go for a curry repeat at will....1 point

I wonder just how well set up the cars that the factory lends out to test are? Many years ago I worked for a very high end bicycle company that sent its bikes out to national bike magazines and as often as not the reviews would have a number of small negatives that in the end would add up giving a negative impression of an otherwise wonderful bike. So we took the step of having our best mechanics tweak and test and re-tweak the bikes until they were just right before any journalist ever got near it. And when the bike came back from the test it was gone over and test ridden and cleaned to perfection before it went back out the door to be once again tested. And....every bike always came home to check over before it went to the next test. Journalist are not kind to gear and most don't care if they pass on bikes that are compromised in some way to the next magazine. This process resulted in glowing reviews and a real life bump in sales - so worth the time to get the bikes just right. I wonder if Westfield, and other car companies, take the steps necessary to present their products in the best possible light. I recall a number of years ago EVO magazine tested the then new Miata and they had little good to say about it and the tone of the piece was largely one of disappointment. Their core complaint was the handling and the details of their complaint all pointed to a poor alignment. As I read it I wanted to jump into the pages of the magazine and set the toe properly just so they would talk about something else. I can't fault the magazine - are they supposed to report that they think the car would be great if only it had a proper alignment and tire pressures? No - they test the car they are given. It feels like Westfield might do well to have their best guy assemble the demo cars and make sure they ride and handle just so and that they are 100% rattle and squeak free. It's time consuming and therefore not cheap but it's time/money very well spent. If I can make my own car handle and ride just right and be free of rattles and squeaks surely the factory can do it and do it faster and cheaper...and no doubt the reviews would be more positive and be less "it's not as good as a Caterham but it's cheaper". Properly done they could have "it's every bit as good as a Caterham and much cheaper" and no doubt sales would increase. dave1 point
