  1. A very very sad day indeed. Martin was my mentor when I started the Speed Series and friend. He was a real gentleman and a very kind person. He put his family first and will be dearly missed by all. He was restoring a classic Lola Formula Ford with the potential goal of putting his grandson in the driving seat. @DavidH if that project has not been finished then perhaps the two of us need to complete in Martin's memory and get Harvey out sprinting. 4. A common failure mode in traditional filament lamps (bulbs grow in the garden ) is that if the metal base is at the bottom during use, when the filament dies and breaks, it can touch the metal base resulting in an earth fault if the lamp is earthed which will trip the RCD in your consumer unit.

  5. Well that's my short winter tinkering list done and a new MOT this morning with no advisories! Roll on some sunny winter days so I can get out and use it! Matt

  6. Well done passing the MOT. I'm not as hardy as you Matt and breathing in cold air sometimes makes my asthma worse so I now SORN off road end Nov and back on road early March. My car passed MOT 2 weeks back and not used since--had been hoping to get a last run in before SORN but pretty cold air and windy weather has put me off. Hopefully you'll get some clear, crisp days of Winter sun to enjoy your runs.

  7. A very fair piece of advice, which I will listen to post MOT this Friday - thanks, Julian. For now I am going to change the relay as a stop gap until the weather allows for the drilling and fitting of side repeaters, i.e. doing the job properly rather than sticking them in any old position.

  11. For the MOT, the flash rate of the indicators must be between 60 and 120 flashes per minute. The requirement for indicator side repeaters applies to vehicle registered after 1st April 1986 so are not required if your car is on a 'Q' plate as they are treated as registered on 1st Jan 1971.

  13. It was a little damp today and a little slippery at times but another great day out, thanks Julie! BTW I like the 'arty' shot of my car through the raindrops

  15. It is with great sadness that I have to report that long-time SS competitor Martin Hepworth died last evening after a short illness. Martin was an old-school "good bloke": unfailingly friendly, positive, generous, helpful and cheery. He was also a gentleman. Talented and very determined, he made Squadron Leader in the RAF the hard way -- starting out in the ranks. Having spent much of his career on the engineering of jet fighters, during the last twenty years Martin developed a love of planes of an earlier generation, becoming one of the country's leading experts in the maintenance and restoration of Spitfires and other Merlin-engined types. He was working part time until a very few weeks ago, and will be sorely missed at Duxford. I first met Martin in 1970, marshalling at Snetterton with the BRSCC, and we have been firm friends ever since. In fact, he was entirely to blame for getting me into kit-cars, sprinting, and, not least, the WSCC. My thoughts are with Monica and his daughter, Emma. David
