With icy roads on the tops, plan B was put into action, so lunch with a difference it was then, pork pie, cheese, biscuits, pickled onions and pickles, yum, yum. But I had promised ice cream, so, firstly, I found an ice cream farm near Matlock that was serving mince pie flavoured ice cream. My more traditional method of navigation, the JulieNav ( memorise the route basically, with reminders on a bit of paper), failed me today because I turned left too early, and the ice cream farm was only a 4 minutes drive from the Artists Corner car park. So we can practice our Christmas songs '4 minutes drive, 3 point turn, 2 seater car and a plonker in a Westfield' sorry guys. Glen thanked me kindly for parking next to the pile of poo, right where he steps out of the car, it's hard enough getting out of the car with the roof on, avoiding the hot exhaust AND now the cow poo too. I didn't laugh...much. The Ice Cream Farm in Matlock. Martyn and Sue, Dave Eastwood, PaulVX and Pat (in the GT86). After our strange breakfast option we headed East, away from the rain, to arrive at The Travellers Rest, Apperknowle for lunch. It has far reaching countryside views, real fires, real ale and is famous for its food. Beef stew in a hollowed out loaf of bread and the pork pie platter. Erdinger Weissbier and a Fuggle Bunny real ale to wash it all down with. Paul, one of the Derby/Notts areas biggest fan, with his Dick Spanner t-shirt on It rained all day and the roads were filthy, bring it on It was only half past one and we needed a sweet, did we? well maybe not, but it was the last day that The Tea Junction at Hulme End was open, as the owner flys off to Australia for the winter, so we went for kisses and goodbyes. We went for a monkeys tea party really, and the roads were better this way. Slack Hill plus Vtech, oh what fun we had. The Tea Junction, Hulme End The monkeys tea party And still it rained I did have to check my own instructions for the start time, I have no idea why I chose 10.30 and not the usual 10.00. It was funny though, because it was raining and there is no cover at the car park, when I arrived, we all stayed in our cars and I got Dave to ring me so we could discuss what the plan was. In future we will meet at the Sainsburys in Matlock. It is the Santa Run next weekend, but the weekend after that we will re-instate the Blaze Farm run. Thank you to everyone for coming out to play on such a freezing, wet day, I love you all, kiss, kiss.3 points

Just arrived back home after another fantastic day in the Peaks. Didn’t get the hood off once, and the wipers were needed much of the day, but didn’t take the shine off it one bit!3 points

Glad you got out Dave. After last Sundays ' nuts frozen' drive and this week being colder, I decided to go shopping for the latest wifes 50th birthday present. Seems I spent less than expected , so I may have some carbon fund left !! That does look mighty cold in the picture.2 points

Following on from my post a few weeks ago where I received some lovely kind words We had all decided that we weren't ready for a dog free house yet. We had tried the local rescue centres but as we have kids they would only rehome a pup with us. So after a few phonecalls and a drive up to oban in the snow we now have this little ball of energy to keep us all on our toes! An 8 week old border collie called Archie. He's already picking fights with much bigger opponents!!1 point

Depends on the type but my SB47s half hood is fixed onto the rollbar with turnbuckles. Look neater IMO than those fixed to the tub.1 point

Like the look, my Rover type mirrors are a pain, I cannot seem to adjust them into the correct position, and they lose adjustment easily, might take one off and see if I can do something like you. Where did you get the new mirrors from?1 point

There seem to be at least two variations of Westfield half hood rear fasteners. The early ones, like I have are long enough to fix on the rear of the car, similar to the photo above, but only one strap each side, not those inverted v arrangements, like the Soft Bits hood in the photo. Since then, I suspect from what I’ve seen on a few people’s cars, that they’ve been redesigned and made shorter, so as to fasten on to the rear stays of the RAC roll bar, (or MSA bar, depending on hood version). But really, as long as you can get sufficient tension on the rear straps, and that they’re solidly mounted, there is no right/wrong way particularly, just what suits your car. So if you have a tonneau cover, you might need to mount them slightly differently to if you have an open boot box, same if you have a boot lid. Note the side straps use the same press studs that the tonneau cover/roof uses, so again, you might need to move them, or better still change the relevant press studs on the tonneau cover to the back to back stackable type. Photos of the set up you have at the back of the car, and the version of half hood you have might help us?1 point

I don't really know why I'm posting this, I'm feeling a little traumatised. It might be upsetting, so please bear in mind if you want to read on. This afternoon, Beth and I were first on the scene to a very serious car crash, I'll keep the details brief as Im sure there will be an investigation, suffice to say it was a head on collision in a remote area. For those who don't know, Beth's a Doctor. We stopped, assessed the scene and their was one major casualty. Beth did her stuff, myself and two other guys had to drag him out of the car to perform CPR. 4 of us fought for 15 mins to save him, but he was pronounced dead when the Air Ambulance turned up. Its brought home home how fragile we are, but also how strangers pull together to help, what a great job the emergency services do for us, and how careful we need to be in our westies. It's not nesscessarily our mistakes, but those of others that can determine our outcomes. Stay safe, I need a drink.0 points
