  1. Hello Westfield owners! I have just purchased a Westfield 7 but I have not taken delivery. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and I am part of the Golden Gate Lotus Club, I have owned several Lotus over the years including currently a Zanthos 23b. This car is said to be a factory build and was shipped to Japan for its entire life, brought to the USA and sat at a dealer for the last 2 years. For some reason they had to rebuild the Crossflow motor. Its sold as a 1990 Westfield SE, I am a bit confused about the SE this looks like a Pre-Lit model right? the engine plate reads 7 85 49 KR, so does that read Model 7, year 85 and Chassis 49? Thank you for any advice. Tom

  2. It's definitely not a Westfield and I'm not sure it's a car either.

  3. While in local Deli sarnie shop today, having ordered my “kamikaze chicken with extra hot chilli” from the bewildering array of tasty and bizarrely named offerings, I was taken aback by a young lady next in line. Looking at her phone she reels off the name of a “special” for her mate and then looks at the serving bloke and says “someone recommended a sandwich to me and it sounded lovely. But I can’t remember what it was” - then paused as she looks at the server for help The server looked a bit bemused as I stifled laugh and he says “so can you remember what was in it?” ”No” she says “but it has lots of different things in”. I glance at the board behind the counter that displays sandwiches containing more ingredients than you’d find in an episode of Masterchef and look at the bloke behind the counter who plucks one of the popular choices out of the myriad on offer - “perhaps it was a ‘feast on rye’ that’s popular”? ”yes that sounds like it” I collected my delightful lunch and left.

  5. Who is the company in Germany? My sister lives near Munich and drives over several times a year, I'm sure she would love to become a courier.

  6. I guess if he is doing R8 blades then he must be selling decent stuff. I'd love some more carbon to keep the addiction going, but instead I'll just go to Toms and dream at his car instead..............

  7. Very pretty pre-lit! The dealer is incorrect as already stated, 1985 not 1990, so there’s a bit of leverage to use on them in negotiations. I hope you will become a full member in due course and enjoy the benefits. By the way, the engine was manufactured in March 1972: http://www.burtonpower.com/tuning-guides/tuning-guide-pages/ford-manufacture-dates.html

  8. This is actually why I started the thread, I've opted in on any carbon chat/thread that's gone on on this site but like you say it sort of disappears and does a death, I'm hopeful of this coming off but like a lot has said , let's see what the works like, I've asked for pictures of any work so waiting on that at the mo and will update as soon as I get anything, he's been talking about doing them in resin infusion method to keep the cost down? I'm guessing I'm going to get a barrage of abuse for this method ??

  9. I was going to do a group buy from the guy over in Germany (Christoph) but the exchange rate is shocking at the moment and each V8 bonnet and nose would have worked out about £800 each. As someone has mentioned, prepreg is very hard to get perfect, so good luck to the chap looking to make them (I could do with a spare set :p)

  10. Carbon Mods also worked with the factory at the time, I seem to remember, which is the other way of doing it. The German bodywork is also slightly different. (I think their FW nose/bonnet is actually nicer than the original.)

  11. I looked at liquid, black trim polish on Halfords website cost £4.50; then a couple of days later I thought I'll click and reserve before travelling but the price during the Black Friday event days had gone up to £5 so decided to wait. Is Black Friday another marketing con and has anyone else seen examples of this kind of thing?

  12. ^ This. That’s the problem, many of us are interested, until real world, non hobbyist prices start coming in.

  14. rob They would need to be in pre-preg to get it lightweight and I think the problem with making this type of westfield parts is getting a excellent finish for the price people want to pay if there is slight imperfection would people still be willing to pay £700 for a bonnet as the maker would have a lot of time and effort and materials invested in the part I think not And there is a massive difference between people saying yeah I will have one and actually parting with any cash

  15. I have been to Scapa three times about forty years ago on diving expeditions staying on a converted fishing boat and touring the various dive sites. There used to be a Scapa museum in Stromness which had loads of stuff from the wrecks and also a interesting museum at the formal naval base of Lyness. I still have a book entitled 'From Jutland to Junkyard' which our old boat skipper reckoned was the best book on the subject at the time, you are welcome to it if interested. I have VHS tapes from my time there which I keeping to get transferred to dvd but never seem to get round to it . Have a great trip with good weather

  16. It could be posted. I have no idea on cost. Will weigh it and see what the costs are. Is the WSCC courier service anywhere near Barnet travelling up North soon?

  17. Robo, we have been here so many times over the years that is actually best to ask them to show they can do some decent quality parts first. Lots claims they can, few seem to be able to. If they can and at reasonable prices then the customers will be there. Just ask yourself why there are very few doing it at the moment ??

  19. Google have changed their search results policy recently. https://www.theverge.com/2017/4/25/15418490/google-search-snippets-changes-fake-news-offensive-results Some will see that as sinister. I don't. What firmware is on the ASUS? Tomato? DD-WRT? Gargoyle? I would argue that these aren't the last word in secure firmware types for a home router. They might be better than the ISP supplied crap but you won't find a home router on custom firmware installed anywhere that matters. Do I care if my ISP router is being used as a bot? No. Not my problem. It's up to them to secure and monitor their equipment. A quick look at the traffic stats will tell me if things are happening when I am not home (all my gear is powered off when I am out) and I'm pretty sure there's nothing going out that shouldn't be. That said, ever Wiresharked what's coming out of your TV? DVD Player? Apple TV? Chromecast? You may be surprised at who is tracking what! Everything to do with cookies. Set your browser to delete your browsing history on exit. That should get most of them out. You could use Private Browsing or use a TOR browser and a search engine that doesn't track you. There are loads out there. I actually like the fact that Google Chrome hooks in to my phone and PC. It means I can find anything I was looking at on my PC on my phone and vice versa. Perfect for when I'm shopping and don't have my laptop with me. And the new Firefox update works just fine for me. I like the new look and it's definitely faster to load from clicking to shortcut and seems to be faster at switching between pages too.
