Unless you get a tight fit to the bodywork, I reckon under wet towing conditions, you'd still get loads of water in the car. A tonneau cover would do the job, or just leave it open and get some holes drilled in the floor.2 points

Great pictures Trevor, thank you. I thought it was going to be a goooood day and it was, after all FLAG GATE was born today. Julie forget her flag so Mr Warwickshire Area had to stand there and rub it in didn't he, and do you think everyone else joined in? it goes without saying really But first, we picked this Motley Crue up at Halfords, which Ali thinks is McDonalds, but actually is a Marks and Spencers cafe, confused???? it's allowed. Trevor, Martyn and Sue, Paul VX, Billy, Ali and Gail and us, making a 6 car convoy We got free entry into the Steam Party, parked in show position and put the singular flag up. We had a good look around at the steam engines, both in motion around the parade ring and the ones on stand. There were classic cars and a 90 year old Crossley Engine which was running as smooth as it's first day I had a route planned, but it seemed daft to go North, when most people were from the South, so we went to Fradley Junction on the canal instead. It must be hard work driving a VX because Paul looks like he is having an afternoon power nap. The eagle-eyed will be able to spot our cars in the background. We scattered off in various directions from here, but, there had been NO CAKE TODAY, so, on the way home we called in Willersley Castle for jammy tea cakes We just got home before it went dark.2 points

Once the bore wear starts and the pistons slap like a 10 quid trollope, it will sound like a diesel anyway1 point

Certainly considering it Gary, fed up with the Zetec boys blowing me away on the straights at the track days! Figure if I fit one of these and get it down to 520kgs, I might be nearer the pace.1 point

Another nod for the Westfield II ASM by Schroth. Feels so much better than my previous Westfield harness. The extra inch makes all the difference1 point

That's why I found out who made the kit to see if I could get a Titan branded one, but no luck. Mind you, the investment that a bigger company can make shows in the quality of all the materials and fit of every part. To really sort out the ground clearance I cut down the bell housing to match it and I did have fleeting "grind the name off" moment, but I left it. I just try driving faster to leave it behind... To add a bit more to the idea, we've got a crossflow engine Westfield and sigma engine Westfield in the family. They are both well set up, but the sigma is simply much more nimble as it is so much lighter. Gary1 point

Thats very true Kevin, as with a crossflow, give it 20 miles and it will be soaked in black oil to save having to do that1 point

It’s worthwhile. In heavy front end impacts, heavy fire extinguishers have popped out of there mounting frames before now. Trouble is, they then often have a lot of momentum, and shoot forwards, bounce off the dash or screen, and come right back at the passenger or driver! One of those ironic injuries, survive the crash unharmed, then end up brained by your own extinguisher! You can buy general purpose Velcro straps off eBay. They’re then easily enough adapted. Not the clearest of shots, but you get the idea; the broad Velcro strap is trapped behind the bolted in bracket, so won’t pull free itself. The bracket is bolted on to the rear bulkhead with large spreader washers, (known as repair washers) on the rear side of the panel. These are the same size repair washers as used to secure the seats to the floor, they will not pull through, in an impact. (Least, not in any form of survivable impact ) The strap itself, isn’t just Velcro, it had a metal buckle on it that the Velcro strap loops through before securing back on itself. This bit is important, as it makes the straps “hold” massively stronger1 point

Let's hope you make it Billy, before the dreaded SORN in a couple of weeks time. And Ali and Gail, finger's crossed that we get to see you before your epic trip, you must be so excited and we need hugs before you go. Let's hope tomorrow is as warm as today....only 1 coat today!!!!1 point

Aplan have done me a cracking deal on my house insurance! I was quoted £230 by L&G (up by £50 on last yea rmost likely for my wife's bent iphone claim). Not only have they beaten the price by more than £50. It's still with L&G!1 point

Can't tell conclusively from your pic but have you got a velcro safety strap around your extinguisher?1 point

It is with a large amount of sadness that I am posting this advert. Having just spent a fair sum of money having the fuelling resolved, I took her for a run at my local track. Unfortunately, the worst happened and I’m now assessing where to go. I’m not in a position to invest any more into a ‘fun car’ at the moment, and would like to assess if there is any interest in either buying the car as a donor vehicle for the engine and transmission or perhaps just taking the engine and transmission. This might be perfect for your next project. Spec as follows Engine was 3.9 now 4060cc Baffled sump Cast pistons Extensive porting to heads Gas flowed Larger than standard valves – 1 piece Teflon coated Rally cam All ports matched Lightened fly wheel T5 Gearbox The car was on the dyno last weekend. Putting out a very respectable 258.8 BHP, with a very fat torque curve, peaking at 232.9 lbf.ft I have lots of documentation relating to the car, from the build, including a magazine article in Kit Car magazine. If this is of interest, please get in touch and we can explore options.0 points
