  1. Depends if he wanted to fly it back home in time for a hot date. It would have then read... "Cosmetic Damage noted to starboard wing......"

  7. No, it was an Israeli F15, a bit of documentary here, (reconstructions, plus pilot interview and photos of the damage) Even MacDonald Douglas didn’t believe it until the aircraft was examined!

  8. Yes I've seen that and also a good read is the story of the DHL aircraft that was shot at by an Rpg if I remember right in Iraq and they managed to land successfully.

  9. Well i have completed the compilation of the Blyton results and forwarded them to Tigger I texted him to say please post asap and guess what......... He said it would have to wait........because he was at the NFL I tried to guess what that as ..National Farmers League, National Front Layabouts meeting but surely not NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE! Thats something to do with Americans who don't know what "football" is and they like to wear big shoulder pads and helmets. The big softies IMHO, they want to have a go at Rugby Union or League and that should open their eyes a bit Come on Tigger just get your priorities sorted out....I think they do brain scans free on the NHS

  10. Yes. If an engine violently let's go the shear pins will allow the engine to detach to prevent it destroying the wing (And therefore the entire aircraft) And also to prevent rupturing the main wing tanks.

  11. Table booked at Alberts Shed, Castlefield where we had an excellent meal last year. Looks like a great menu choice again for £25 http://alberts-restaurants.com/christmas-menu-2017/christmas-party-menu/ Only slot available with the numbers was 1pm (1300hrs). I will email out with further details and request for deposit payment of £10 before Fri 6th. Still few days for one or two latecomers to come on board if deposit gets to me in time.

  12. I must be in the minority but I like AO48s and R888Rs in the wet. I find them nice and progressive and only an issue when there is a large expanse of standing water.

  13. Approx 15 years ago I was flying between Edinburgh and Brum every week - did this for 3 years. So you got very familiar with exactly how the A319 took off and landed at each airport. Flying home to Edinburgh on a Friday afternoon we came in for a landing on a glorious sunny day. We touched down and just kept going at full chat, "No problem" I thought, "he's going to do a touch and go", except he didn't go back up. At this point all the recognised weekly commuters are doing the whole meerkat thing whilst tightening the lap belts. Funny to see the once a year holiday flyers blissfully unaware that anything was unusual. Then as the end of the runway was coming up, the brakes and reverse thrust both come on full. Holy Bejezuus that plane slowed down fast, But we still turned off onto the last taxiway at a fair lick. Then a very p******** off pilot broke protocol and come onto the tannoy. "Sorry about that Ladies and Gentlemen, Air Traffic Control landed two planes on the same runway" On our approach we flew over the top of a plane that was already landing. He had his brakes on in the air and was aiming for the start of the runway and we aimed for the middle and didn't stop. A genuine couple of hundred meters near miss. Our pilots earned their beans that day...

  15. I'm ashamed to admit it took me several minutes to realise what had happened in that one side of a vented disk had worn away. The problem was, I was looking at it with a "it's impossible to let that happen" mindset. The noises and vibrations must have been enormous. It's truly mind boggling and terrifying in equal measure.

  16. Fastest time of the day at Brighton Speed Trials was a Hyabusa Turbo with a 9.21s quarter mile, and the highest terminal 183mph was a Hyabusa SC over the same distance. I need no convincing! Fantastic machines.

  17. Shifting more mass has to put it under more load, and for longer? During cornering on a bike the centrifugal forces possibly keep the oil quite stable in the sump? Think also of the deceleration forces when braking etc? A bike if you bang down to many gears it will skid or lock the rear tyre, imagine the forces that big sticky car tyres could impose on the engine which it would never normally experience? Massive engine braking it was never designed for. The early Hayabusa didn't have a slipper clutch the gen 2 does but don't people junk it and fit a beefy clutch instead! I have 2009 Hayabusa and people think your thrashing it all the time! Well that engine in a bike produces 95mph in first gear 155 in third and it hits its speed limiter at 186 still in fifth leaving sixth for better economy!! LOL So that engine doesn't get that much of a workout even when the bike is flying, mines been abroad and around some tracks including the "ring" but trust me it flys with very little effort. Click the link and watch one fly! Just watch how fast the speedo rises it like watching a rev counter hence my comment about these engines don't get thrashed because you soon backing off!!!! Also on a bike try holding 150mph plus for long, err I think not, next time your a passenger in a car on the motorway pop your head out the window and feel the air pressure
