Hi all, I sold my Westy about two years ago and have missed it ever since. Then randomly about 3 weeks ago my brother sent me an advert on car and classic and it was my old Westy! I just had to have it back. Got lots of plans for it this time including not to sell it this time! Anyway it's great to be back and here are a few pics, the car has been on the forum for years... And here it is in a previous live being given its amazing paint job by Jeff, it still shines fantastically today.... http://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/topic/48731-repairing-and-painting-a-westfield/4 points

Now that I'm off committee, I can start to tell you about some of the things I learned while I was in the inner sanctum, and the first of these is how soap is a giant con. First of all, soap does work - I'm not saying it doesn't. We'd all be filthy, smelly individuals if it weren't for soap. However, I learned that soap has a secret ingredient you won't be aware of. Dirt. Why? Simple - so you'll keep buying it because you think it works so well. Case in point - do some dirty work on the car or in the garden or a bit of DIY, then wash your hands with soap and rinse them off with water. Have a look at your hands, which are now clean (if you did it right). Now wash your hands a second time using soap and water, and have a look at what's coming off your hands and landing in the sink as you do so - the lather and water should be the same colour as the soap, but it's not, is it? It's ever so slightly dirty. Because your hands were already clean, there's only one explanation - soap contains traces of dirt so you can look at the dirty rinse water and believe it's actually working. Wash your hands as many times in a row as you like - the results are always the same. Slightly dirty rinse water. The water isn't dirty coming out of the tap. Your hands are already clean. So where's the dirt coming from? It can only be the soap. It's a gigantic con and the more expensive the soap, the more dirt is in it so you'll believe the pricey soap works better. Soap is a con - pass it on. (I will soon start offering Captain Colonial's Tinfoil © with the miracle ingredient Madeitupitis™ that you can shape into headwear that will stop "Them" from reading your thoughts, or wrap your body with to protect you from secret "R" waves, or even line the inside of your home and car with for super safety - stay tuned.)1 point

Will the angled plinth work on the Westfield arches as the westfield arch has a vertical section for mounting the lights unlike the Caterham which is curved/sloping.1 point

Maybe put a flashing bike light on the role over bar.1 point

Rant.......Yesterday I learned that my wife's 2 year old seat Ibiza at 10,000 miles has not lost all its air con 137A . It does not have a leak. It simply dissipated. I bet they'd find the leak if it wasn't still under warrantee. I was also frilled to learn how the fixed price full service does not include an air con service at 69.99. I wonder what else the full service did not include! I can see it did not include any service stuff like oil, filters, etc It seamed to me the full service was an expensive check if there was anything not covered under warranty needing doing. They are so lucky my lovely wife collected the car. So if you find your dampers have no oil in them and you think there for they are leaking... you are wrong it's simply disipated and that's not covered under warranty!1 point

I've just checked mine and it's definitely wired to the G terminal and not the WK terminal. The body is also stamped 'made in Hungary'.1 point
-
Just buy a new sender, they're not that expensive. Then connect the G terminal (Gauge) , not the WK ( "Warnung Kontakt" (warning contact lamp)) as stated.1 point

You would have been on the brake pedal all the time to wear the pads out in 3k miles. It maybe all fine and the previous owner changed the pads and retracted the caliper pistons and pushed the fluid out the master cylinder and then when the pedal was pressed to set the pads near the discs, it used a lot of the fluid in the reservoir. But it safety sake thing to double check its all sound at the fittings first.1 point

As above come and say hi, I'll be hanging around Friday and happy to help where I can. Martin1 point

Sensible to check rather than just putting some fluid in there and find out in an inopportune moment its all gone and you have no brakes.1 point

Great stuff, you're going to love it! Timing strut, catch tank, yellow marked earth lead on battery and marked on-off for ignition should be all you need As Terry says make yourself known when you arrive1 point

Ok being a total non mechanically minded driver but learning every day ,if it's low I just top up pour in and put cap back on ,or wiggle wires and check connection ,simple as that . I will check tomorrow if low is all brake fluid the same .1 point
