Just, 14.10 taken delivery of some "bits" from Car Builder Solutions. Ordered yesterday at 15.30, standard next day delivery. Great service, thank you CBS. Felt it warranted a mention.3 points

This is a lovely railway that we visited last year. Plenty of parking at Ravenglass and you can also walk on the beach. Nice walks around the area and also plenty of history. WORD OF WARNING. The beach is tidal and it blocks your exit when the tide comes in. Make sure you watch the tide tables. Great food in the cafes at either end of the line and everything is reasonably priced. The railway is only 7 miles long so its a 14 mile round trip.2 points

You're welcome. They're not specifically fast, they're nice and scenic. In fact the Black Mountain road has been slapped with 40mph signs since TG featured it and it attracted the bikers. Doesn't really matter which direction you drive them to fit your plans.2 points

Try Cwmystwyth. Old lead mines, roads running down next to the river, accessed from the Elan valley roads or from Pontarfynach (Devil's Bridge) from Aberystwyth. Gary1 point

Leading on from that I drove a 340 bhp v6 Morgan today. Sliding pillar front end and live axle pushed to the limit... . The rear drums where smoking well after a few miles... I was enjoying it until my passenger announced the windows don't open wide enough to be sick out of.1 point

Had to happen sooner or later. Started the car on Sunday and the rev counter needle simple fell off the gauge - took the display out (Stack ST8130 ) and on removing the back it was clear that no DIY repair would be possible. Packaged up yesterday and sent to 213 Performance (UK distributor) for a repair - today received a quote of £330 to replace the motor (bearing close to collapse), needle, dial face (going to the more traditional black with a bit of luck) and glass (few scratches) and a full service / test - not cheap but in effect I will be getting a completely fresh looking and serviced unit at less than a third of new price. Service from 213 Performance has been exceptionally good. I think its called man maths :-)1 point

Those Westfield badged valve caps are good for a few swear words after a bit. First, as they're metal and tyre valve threads are brass, the caps will basically fuse on after a while unless you smear the threads with Vaseline or the like, meaning you can't check your tyre pressures any more. Even if you do protect the threads, the caps also have a little Allen screw so you can lock them on and stop toe rags from stealing them, which again is great until you lose the Allen key or forget to keep it in the car and hey presto, you can't check the tyre pressures again.1 point

Instruction with a Javelin trackday is 20mins and involves hand gestures (you'll get the gist of it) when driving and a chat at the beginning and end of a session sometimes half way through. Definitely worth it for a Newbie trackday hero. Insurance is purely your choice, I've never had track insurance in 20 years and been ok. Your doomed in a V8 for petrol consumption unless you carry another 40 litres at least in cans. Best to find someone to come with you in a tin top and carry yer fuel and tools etc, they would have a good time being a passenger as well. If not then dumping your gear in a pile with a waterproof sheet over it is OK, no one nicks stuff at trackdays that I have ever been to. For clothing you have to wear long trousers and have arms covered, thin soled trainers for pedal feel and a full face helmet, same for passengers. Come to think of it, it's best to tag along to a track where other Westfield club members are going, more fun, we share rides, tools, and experience freely given.1 point

Thanks Craig, I just wish I could remember more. I will have a look at the roads you suggest. I am not bothered about fast roads as more than happy tootling along at 30mph and looking at views. Thanks everyone else also for the replies.1 point

Interesting, Smeg, I did wonder if this would be possible while sat in traffic, fumbling for a bottle! Can you get all of it out ok with the bag behind the seat, or do you end up sucking till you're cross eyed!1 point

To keep hydrated on or long trips I use a water bladder. The drinking valve can be clipped to you so that there's no fumbling for water bottles. The bladder can be insulated (bubble wrapped in carrier bag) and placed behind seat out of the sun. Also can be part filled, put in freezer overnight then topped up in morning. E.G. http://www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/source-clear-1-5-ltr-e3194007?id_colour=180 (other options available although this would be my recommendation after many many years of use of several makes) Buy as large as possible, after all it doesn't have to be filled to brimming but a small one will only ever take a small amount of water! Can also be used for wine, beer etc etc1 point

Agreed, lots more detail about the car will only help you sell the car. BTW, not that my opinion is worth a bucket of spit in this matter... that's a lousy compromise. My sympathies. Good luck with the sale.1 point
