We need to keep making a fuss when we do not get the service we pay for. I had a car stolen many years ago and the officer who came was apologetic that all he could do was give me a crime number and the usual platitudes. As he said your car is worth £15k and we give you a number, but if someone walks into a bank and takes £15k we will pull out all the stops. Both are insured yet one treated differently. When I was burgled I tracked down the thief on Ebay, the police could have done the same but due to ever increasing cuts did not have the resource, she got a 150 hours community order. I do not blame the guy on the street I blame the politically motivated ladder climbers who tow the line whilst letting down the people they swore to protect. I would bet the car involved is either stolen, uninsured, or driven by a drunk.2 points

Hi Dave, Still waiting to get the engine and box out of the car. Still thinking, though, that the pivot ball has gone through the clutch fork (a known problem with the LT77 gearbox apparently). I'll post updates here as I find out. Cheers, Brian2 points

Well, I dont recognise that specific road unfortunately Geoff, but I'd recommend you try and amend your route slightly to take in; A4120 (Aberystwyth to Rhyaader) B4560 (Beaufort to Llangynidr) B4520 (Builth Wells to Brecon) and specifically dont miss A4069 Black Mountain Road (of Top Gear Fame) ( Brynamman to Llandovery) there are many many more gems to drive, you wont be disappointed.1 point

Helmet Is really how much you want to spend. I went for a "cheapish" bike helmet on ebay. food depends on where you go but alot trackshave a cafe etc I normally fill up before you get there and see how your doing at lunch break and go out and fill up if i need to. if your v8 you might not make lunch lol Track day insurance I have not bothered with but am happy to take the risk. Most come with high xs's I have not found in the numorus days I have done that there has been a problem. Your not racing and overtaking is by consent and not on bends so hitting people should not normally be the issue, its running out of talent or mech failure. Drive withing your limits and dont stay out too long and you should be fine. instruction is normally excellent and youu will be much faster and smoother well worth it hope this helps1 point

...And Toybox pay some of those profits back to the club, to purchase advertsing space in the magazine, directly contributing to all our club lives... Its the circle of life!1 point

You'd be better actually going to Toybox to see what he has in stock. His website is usually out of date and bears little resemblance to his actual stock! You can also see cars being prepped for sale and get in there first. I bought my Westie from Andrew and I've used his services for upgrades. As said, he is a dealer and you'll pay a premium. I don't begrudge the guy a living and I like to have somewhere to touch base if the car goes wrong or needs work. I'll probably end up selling my car back to them when the time comes!1 point

Gutting the police were not interested Yet if any passers by had dragged him out of the car for a bit of justice they would soon be arrested and facing a Judge1 point

Aye, and your patch leads would have been one or the other too. All makes for mucho confusion. Wires every time, radio for last local legs. There's so much wireless traffic around these days that WiFi ranges aren't what they used to be, so you have this sort of arms race of ever more powerful/aggressive WAPs, that then just start the cycle all over again as more people get access to the technology. Depending on house size or data bandwidth required, we're either copper or fiber from the main distribution point to the rooms. It just works so mush better and more reliably, especially with media rendering devices running off central server boxes.1 point

Perfect timing as 4 cars met at the Fox and Grapes this morning, we left a bit earlier than planned and made our way to Hellifield where 3 more were waiting, Frank made it 8 and off we went without Michael! I had a "home alone" moment, when I realised we were supposed to be 9 cars 5 minutes down the road, but it was too late to go back and hoped he would find us later, he didn't. We gotto the museum right on schedule, my tyre planning was impeccable, and went straight in for something to eat. We parked in the grounds with some Harleys instead of the car park with the boring cars. There was also a group of TR's parked round the back. After a tour of the museum, we set off for Windermere following a small, sometimes very small single track road which took us to the ferry across Windermere. On the other side? Smeg took over the lead and took us towards Kendal and a fuel stop, then it was back on the A65 and all taking our own ways home. I didn't realise until I got home, but we lost Johno on the way with a fuel pipe problem, luckily good samariton Terry stopped to help.1 point

Yup, that's why most say, depending on how much "new" stuff you buy, and whether you go down the bike induction route or Jenvey/Omex etc, it will typically cost £2000 +/- £500 on top of the cost of the engine!! You will always get one or two that do it for way, way less, but when you start to ask, you generally find either they or their friends, have access to huge amounts of old cars etc in their back yards/gardens/handy field from which to rob parts, and that again, they either have, or have access to, via a mate, a very well equipped workshop and the ability to fabricate pretty much anything needed. For us mere mortals, it costs! It can get even dearer if you need to start replacing body panels because of holes for air filters and exhausts etc in the wrong place. An engine swap is a really fascinating, enjoyable project to take on if you like these things, and many of us do, but even in the distorted world of Westfield economics, they don't make much financial sense for most of us. But then, that ignores the emotional investment of blood, sweat and tears many of us have in our cars.1 point
