Finally Westie called Hyacinth is at her new home. All we need now is warm summer days to enjoy . Thanks to Adrian, I found my car few months ago from Warwickshire. It took some time to modified it to fullfill all requirement of local registration inspector.

Would have been rude not to sprint on at least one day - so Saturday entered, & Sunday will 'put back in' by volunteering to help.

I bought one of the heavy duty Machine Mart ones years ago, and it's still going strong now, it's the one with the big u shaped base - I figured it would be more stable for doing up my (then) C20XE's hugely tightly torqued on crank pulley nut!! The MM has served me lots of times, and been on it's travels round local members a fair few times, too. I also bought, while first building the Honda car, a cheap eBay special, just to use to store the Vauxhall engine well it was up for sale. It's a piece of crap for anything other than holding the engine off the floor. The three castor design isn't the most stable when working on an engine. But the worst thing about it is the pivot that lets you turn the engine upside down, or on its side - one of the best features, normally of using an engine stand. Even with copious amounts of grease, it was just too badly made and finished to be able to rotate properly with the weight of an engine on it. It would just jam completely, with the engine at some useless half turned angle.

If it sells at that price then that is the correct price isn't it. For many they have no idea of value so a car that is £12k with warranty and only 300 miles may well be what they think is reasonable, especially if he will take a part ex. Our cars are too cheap, Caterham's hold their value better as their owners tend to talk them up we find reasons to devalue them. Just my view. Buying Westfields is simple, go to a club meet and see as many as you can, then go armed with the knowledge and see your chosen one. Here is the difference between a Westfield and normal car, there will always be other normal cars, there are fewer good Westfields available in any one year, see one you like and buy it if it meets you ideal spec. Otherwise the first person to see it after you will buy it.

Put the air recirculation on and waited. If you go out and buy a real car, you'll find less inclination to prove a point to such people

At this rate Q will have a sufficient fighting fund to get a real engine...

RG6 is really intended for RF applications. It's a 75 Ohm cable so technically an impedance mis-match for your sub input I'd imagine. That said, it is well screened. on a practical level, does it matter that there is a hum you can't hear unless you put your ear to the speaker? I doubt you'll be getting that close with program material going to it?

HANS is not required for road going. If 1B tyres and MOT, Taxed and insured then you are road going. you can of course use one if you have one and wish to do so

That's an awful lot of money for a Pinto powered car. Take no notice of the year a Westfield was built, many have been re-incarnated into really excellent cars by WSCC members. The more you see the more likely you'll understand the value of them in due course.

BigSkyBrad - Amazing conversion on your camper - makes my little 4wd mitsubishi camper look very agricultural by comparison. I could share a few really good wild camp places in Scotland though - like here South of Inversanda on loch Linhe (Bit off route for thr NC500 though). I have worked in and around motor industry finance and insurance products for 20+ years so hopefully can give a bit of insight Most GAP policies are RTI (Return to Invoice). At any point during the term of the policy if the car is declared a total loss then the policy will cover the difference between any insurance policy and the invoice price of the car. Working example: You buy a car for £30k, at 2 years old it is declared a total loss and the insurer pays out market value - lets say £15k. Now £15k may or may not get you another car of the sme age and spec as the one you have just lost. With RTI GAP the policy will pay out a further £15k giving you the £30k back that you paid for the car two years previously, putting you in a much better position For new / nearly new cars GAP on an RTI basis is well worth having but not at main dealer prices, ALA are a very good provider and I have had dealings with them in the past

A wet run up to Scotland

Well it was a bit of a Billy-no-mates situation at Curborough! However, one of the guys we met at Middleton Hall last weekend turned up to keep us company, so thanks Pete! There were some interesting bikes and sidecars taking part in a sprint. I think this guy must have lost some parts to his locost? For those bike fans here are a few interesting ones among the plethora of super motard stuff. Greeves Griffon Gilera My personal favourite was this Kawasaki S2, a three cylinder 2 stroke 350cc. What a fantastic sound, it took me back to my early biking on 250, 500 and 750 versions of this machine!!! Shame you all missed it!

Keep in touch Terry as a few more of us will probably join in on a day trip too.

If wild camping be prepared to deal with the infamous midge. They are bl**** rife this year due to the early warm weather. Was up Glencoe way a few days ago and the swarms were unreal. Midge nets and Avon skin soft required. They might have calmed down a bit come August hopefully.

I tried to push it for a tank of fuel and he said sorry, we have taken these slots to sell and we genuinely make just £800 on the sale, so I am happy with the price I got the car for , but I dont think I could get any more out of them.

Sorry to say but that is one damaged engine. I would suspect that the car was starting to seize up, which is why when you tried to start it the lights were dimming and it wouldn't spin over. Push starting it got it going because there was enough geared movement to let it catch. I wouldn't waste time stripping the sump off, that engine will have to come out so you can fix it. don't despair as everything can be fixed it is just dependant on your skill level and time.

I won't be going back to the car for a fortnight as i'm taking my girls to London next weekend. However i'm going to look into a hydraulic clutch tomorrow using the Toyota arm but need to spesk to RAW regarding that. After seeing someone else's narrow car i'm also going floor mounted pedal box as I hate the look of the Escort one currently fitted. I have a Omex 200 ecu that has been mapped already for a AW11 engine crank pulley machined with trigger wheel on ts and air temp sensor to fit and a zetec coil.

Another new car turned up this weekend too. Hard to believe @Osmium is now old enough to drive!

Thanks, came over Applecross and along coast road to Ullapool. amazing roads and awesome scenery and 'biblical' rain But thoroughly enjoying every minute. Shared the road at one stage with 2 Mclarens and a 911 Porsche and a load of Aston Martins.
