  1. What a fantastic day. Met up with friends old and new and everyone is really getting on. The sun has shone all day and we have all caught the sun. Roads where empty all the way and we got here at 7.00pm and then went for tea and a walk. I took a couple of wrong turns which was my own fault but its been a really good trip. The B&B is really lovely and the hosts are very welcoming. Its really clean and this bed is so comfortable. Food at the local hotel that I moved about last year has vastly improved as they got rid of the manager from last year and it was well priced, clean and tasty. Its 10.10pm and its still daylight and the sky is a beautiful pink. Looking forward to tomorrow already and we will also be meeting up with Bob and Lorna.

  3. So on Friday I finally had everything lines up at home with the “Finical controller” to be able to place my order for the Sport 250, made the call and placed my deposit with Simon from Westfield. Was one of the scary moments, committing to this after all the planning over the last 3 months, and all the reading of posts on here, as well as the great support from the local WSCC team run by Robin at the last breakfast meeting at the Red Kite pub. A big thanks to all the guys at breakfast for helping me check in my head what options were the logical choice. Target for the car is really focused on road use, at least to start with, but I really didn’t want to not pick something I later on very much wanted, so the only think that was up for debate was front/rear anti-roll bars, which I think could be fit later on if ever needed. On the options list I have selected: - Powder coated frame - want it to last after all (Standard) Limited slip Diff - seems like a good choice (Yes) Wide Track wishbones - better of grip I assume (Yes) Upgraded to Westfield Race front and Rear callipers - it must stop best it can (Yes) Upgrade to 205 width T1R tyres Upgrade to 8" rear - lot of debate but think the expense worth it (Yes and looks great) Digital Dash - take you comment on being better with modern engines (Yes) Heater kit - wife would kill me and needed with screen for test etc. (Yes) Upgraded FW rear diffuser (Yes) Upgrade to FW rear body (Yes) Carbon effect stone guards (Yes) Sport turbo seats (Yes) Hood and side screen kit for FW Sport 250 body (Yes) The comments in brackets are from Simon to see if these were the better, more common choices. Simon has told me I’m chassis number 24, so this will hopefully be my new lucky number. Now just have to sit and wait for 12 weeks before its ready for pickup, along with 2 more stage payments. Have to say I think I came away with a pretty good deal, so thanks to Westfield and Simon for sticking with me during negotiations back and forth. So next I need to assemble a few odd tools from my Ex father-in law, and some bits from Amazon. Planning to do a build log, is this just posted as a new thread as I can’t see any specific place for it? 14 weeks is going to go so very slow

  4. So we've blatted through the Pennines, up through Kielder Forest, cross country to Edinburgh then finally finishing at Glen Coe with some fantastic scenery along the way. Good thing is we get to do it all again tomorrow. I might just need to throw a bucket of water over Geoffrey and Gary! I think that the have missed each other alot. Great route north today Geoffrey. See you at breakfast.

  5. What a brilliant day. Up at 6 with a walk before breakfast. Then it was down Glen Etive where we met the most interesting biker. He stopped and asked, "what made you buy the worst of a motor bike and the worst of a car" He then just drove off, so we didn't get chance to reply. We did the full 14 miles of Glenetive at about 10mph and the road is absolutely beautiful so if you get the chance....do it. We even saw a few deer which was lovely. The to Fort William for coffee before going to Glenfinnan. Ben nevis looked brilliant and was shrouded in mist but its always great to see. The rain was in by this time but we stood for nearly an hour, on a hill in the pouring rain to watch a steam train go over the viaduct complete with billowing white smoke. Now from here we continued and we went down the most breathtaking coastal road I have ever been on. I didn't get any pictures because of the rain but if you want to know where it is then come with us next year and I will show you. We had mile upon mile of traffic free roads and we didn't get in until 9.15pm tonight. Wet and a bit cold, but so very, very happy. Going to Skye tomorrow.

  6. You can just turn up for 8pm - the weather forecast is looking good so hopefully there will be a good turn out of Westfields, I'll be leaving Yeovil at around 7.20pm Don't forget to bring photos of your build on a laptop/tablet, a good number of Dorset members will have seen the 250 at Stoneleigh but the majority of cars are Zetecs with an MX5 SDV just going through IVA and a monster supercharged V8 if Tony turns up now the weather's good. If you want you could pm 'Wessex', but I'll let them know, parking is behind the pub but occasionally the landlord clears the front for the cars - assuming the Morris Dancers don't turn up again this month! 9. Yum, yum! Looks "heart stopping" Geoffrey. I'd have to double up on the aspirin and the statins, but it would be worth it to be able to eat that. Full Scottish - ya cannae beat it.

  14. The usual breakfast meet is at Curborough Sprint Course, Lichfield, Saturday 10th June, 8.30-11.30. There is a motorcycle sprint organised by National Hillclimb Association on track for you to watch, while eating your bacon sandwich and admiring the cars that will be there. For those that are not sure where it is, if you are travelling south on the A38, take the junction after the sex shop, easy peasy It is the GBS open day in Ollerton on the same day AND it is stage 4 of the womens tour cycling event in Chesterfield, which comes right past the end of our road. Glen seems keen to go and watch a lot of women in lycra, uh.

  17. Hi, I joined the club at Stoneleigh. I am re-building a 1995 SEIW with my dad so I can hill climb when I'm 16. The car was owned by MGM film studios and needs a new chassis and rear suspension. We have a year to complete our challenge and will be posting a wanted list soon. The car has quite a few parts missing and may need help and advice. Looking forward to chatting to other members.

  18. My dear wife is watching the leaders debate on TV. I'm watching (again) the movie Deadpool and drinking beer. Who is the sensible mature one..?

  19. Grew up with this guy on BP. He was a really decent chap - the sort of bloke I wished I had as a slightly bonkers uncle... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-40083025 Wouldn't be allowed to do half the stuff he did then now. Probably explains my skewed view on self preservation. Don't get presenters like him anymore...

  21. The only time you will need more CFM is for grit blasting and big air tools. I used a 25ltr , 25yr old air compressor to build my car and the only time I struggled was the right angle pneu drill would stop between drilling a couple of holes. Air rivetter doesnt use much , unless you can find the rivet, pull the trigger and wiggle the stump out and find another rivet in 5 seconds.

  27. Ditto John. John Noakes on Blue Peter was a major part of my child hood memories! Ah, Newson's Column, the Bob Sled, incontinent elephants... happy days. And will be sadly missed. Dont mind getting old, don't mind death, but boy does loosing people, from relatives and friends to TV, music and movie stars that you grew up as fans of suck. What I always remembered most about him, was that he was one of those people you came across that made you want to be better yourself.

  32. R1r In 205 50 15 are roughly 30 quid a corner dearer than T1r. Not a massive expense in the midst of a 30k kit? As above ditch the diffuser for now if you need to balance the books. At the end of the day this is a bl**** fast car and it's only the 4 little patches of rubber keeping you on the tarmac. Don't skimp on the important bits. As above I've said my bit and will wind my neck in! Look forward to seeing your build thread.

  38. Managed a super blat this morning as I thought I'd get out on my own before the predicted deluge/thunder/wet stuff which then didn't happen so we had a BBQ accompanied by some of that brown stuff in a bottle. This is becoming a habit (driving the Westfield that is ). Even broke the news to my dearest that a fuel injection upgrade is on the cards (well, paid for actually) and we didn't have an argument
