  3. Just a quick note on this post for clarity. We (the moderators) often get faced with a decision to hide/lock/edit a post. This is because our forum is pretty popular and some people view it as an easy way to get free "social media" advertising. It happens pretty regularly and if we didn't pounce on it, the forum would be full of people offering Viagra, easy ways to earn $10,000 a week and links to dodgy porn sites. So, we often spot a post and have to make a decision if it is something that is considered to be a "benefit to members" - after all, this forum is paid for by our members. Bearing that in mind, members have privileges and we are obliged to protect them. One of these is advertising items for sale, hence this post received our attention. After a backroom discussion, we thought this particular post was treated a little harshly and gave the wrong impression to a potential new member. It has therefore been "unlocked" and we hope everyone understands our reasoning behind the decisions.

  5. Thanks Rab, Managed a couple of hours out this aft - did the lower half of the route - the scenery is stunning, hopefully the weather will be kind to us. I dont think there is a straight bit on the route (but thats what we want isnt it??!!) Dave.

  7. OK, things got sorted more easily than expected. The garage kept the Westie for an extra day so the owner could think on it. He took it out to heat the engine up, still found high emissions. He left it for the afternoon, and then re-did the test when the engine was cold - this revealed low emission, and the MOT was passed. As the engine heated, he tested again, and the emissions were higher. neither of us really understood, but it went through the MOT and he didn't charge anything for the time taken to figure it out. If anyone has thoughts, that would be great, but I have it back, fully MOT'ed and serviced, happy again.

  8. The funicular is really nice especially if you get at the front. last year though my self and Gary where in the cafe at the top with this right "chavy" family. I think they must have been on Shameless at one point. Their language was ..... not fitting... for the area and I bet you could hear them right across Scotland.

  11. Let me introduce myself My name is Steve Pitt, but I’m pretty well known in the gaming community as “BugMan” where I’ve been a big player in World of Tanks, Warplanes and Warships. The name actually comes from fixing system boards in the IT industry from many many years ago. I started life as an apprentice engineer on machine tools and worked on some of the first CNC laths and machining centres in the UK, back in the 70’s, until the UK manufacturing industry took a nose dive in the mid 80’s, when I switched to the IT industry, where I started as a bench engineer for 10 odd years, and then switched to field work, and finally into consulting where I have been working for the last 20 odd years. So I’m pretty good with my hands and am very mechanically and logically minded, and have restored a few classic motorbikes over the years, until unfortunately a couple of years ago after a post office van ran into the back of my car, I lost a lot of strength in my shoulder, so I had to sell them, the last one going a few weeks ago. Been planning to do a kit car for many years, and watched/helped my father-in law build a Low Cost, which took him far far too long (7 years) to get on the road, and I don’t think it’s still 100% right, so have decided on a Westfield Sport 250. Spent some time looking around at all the kits on the market, including some from the USA, but just kept coming back to the Sport 250, primarily because I didn’t fancy digging through scrap yards like my father in-law did and as I had always wanted a full kit, hopefully knowing everything was going to fit the 250 looks the biz. Been reading through a few of the sport 250 build here, and have been very impressed with the results, and been taking note of thing like paint and tools people use etc. Joined WSCC as few weeks ago, and have met up with the local group, and can only thank Robin and the guys I have met so far for a very warm and friendly welcome.

  12. Thank you Buttercup for the first well researched answer. I'll try some bottled water before the softener. Thanks again

  13. Or, put the tea bag in your mouth and drink boiling water straight from the kettle, sloshing it around the inside of your mouth until the taste is perfect.* * do not do this unless you're insane

  14. I've not tried it with any of the software you mention but I've used racerender in the past to good effecr which is free to download. the trick I alsways used for synching was to do something visual in the video which would be visible on all the cameras such as tapping my foot at the same time as clapping my hands, this i then edit out from the video afterwards.

  15. Downloaded this last night and then bought the full version for £2. Worth every penny to have all that info to hand in one place. Great find, tar very much!

  16. I've even found a tidy little place to store when not in use. It just means I have a boat load of spirits to get through to free up the space. What I save on beer will pay for the rest of the stuff I need!

  18. Brian, I thought the same last year - but in reality there are (or were) enough fuelling places on the routes - I would recommend just a 5 litre can, the likelyhood is that we could pool supplies if anyone was getting very low. Dave.

  19. I know. Mind you, it was properly rotten so I didn't feel too bad but I have to say, the engineering in it was interesting and impressive how they added lightness throughout. Also impressed how the engine internals looked perfect after 130000miles.

  23. Compound mire saw, I acquired a chop saw quite a while ago when a friends work shop was closed. When that expired it was replaced by a compound mire saw, I don't have to use the compound feature too much but when I do it's invaluable. I also have a table circular saw that I inherited from my dad but in reality, though in some cases it would be more tricky, I could use a hand circular saw to achieve the same results, if that one broke I wouldn't rush to replace.

  29. One of the reasons we are going via Aviemore is to do the Funiclar on the Tuesday before heading on it Killin. Everyone says it's well worth it and thankyou for the directions and route advice.

  30. Hi, Jon, I did the same as described except I passed my shell on (without its VIN plate - pop riveted on to an old car like our Spridgets) to resurrect a rustier car up in Yorkshire. Pictures taken and no problems with registration with the V5C. I included the photograph below in my IVA build photographs file. Simon

  34. Hi Buttercup, Custard & burnt Rhubarb (with the black smoke?). We need a name for Bob's car.....Gorse? Who else is going? Yes, I do remember some idiot spreadeagled on the road with a camera while cars were trying to avoid him (or hit him!) Don't know who that could be! Roughly, how early is "early"? I could save time by meeting at Lochcarron and then we can go up the Bealach. We'll go with you as far as Lochinver (pie time!). My daughter wants to ride shotgun this time, as James has his final exams (for his degree in Maths & Physics) a few days later, so he'll be studying. Cheers, David

  36. Will be great to meet up again David. I also reckon you will see Garys black smoke long before you hear the whine.....I don't mean his whinging either. Do you remember last year when we where laying in the road on the Lecht for the "arty shots" We will be at the Skye bridge early as we will be going up over the bridge on our way to Durness. How early can you get there. Will your lad be joining us again.

  37. Sorry to hear your dad's not well Gary. Hope he improves soon. I'm looking forward to meeting up with everybody again, even if it's just for a couple of blasts along the way. The Aboyne run last weekend was great and everybody really enjoyed it. The car's running great and I've now softened the suspension (after Aboyne) which has helped the handling somewhat. The engine tapping is getting quieter (curiously!) the more miles I put on it (though the exhaust is noisy). Anyway, see you all 2 weeks tomorrow. I'll meet you at the Skye bridge. I'll be listening for the sound of Rhubarb's supercharger! Ali, Geoffrey and Bob - I can recommend Gary's suggestion of the route via Braemar. You'll be going over 3 great ski areas (Cairngorm, Lecht and Glenshee) and the roads are brilliant. David

  38. It's getting a bit hot on here, so I have been off to cool down . It makes very funny reading though, I mean you lot, you are just self propelled madness. What with lost gloves and now the sex shops Please don't let it rain this weekend, I just can't wait to see where we end up, both in terms of conversation and navigation

  42. Close to me, so weather permitting I'd probably go on one of the days. Funny you need an MSA license when the residents of Coventry use the ring road as a race track every day, and many of them don't even have a driving license!

  43. Ali if your doing the funicular up cairngorm in the morning ( and you really should) then on heading back towards Aviemore turn right at coylumbridge follow the road through nethybridge to the T junction at the smoke house, turn right around the long left handed and then right onto the Tomintoul road and then follow the route south

  46. Original breather system hooked up into inlet. Well mine is. I'm pretty sure the factory one is too. Suppose easy enough to convert to catch can should you start to get an oily intake. Standard sump not ideal. A. It's mahoosive. B. Its designed for transverse installation. C. Not a great deal of baffling. The one I got from power torque is designed for RWD. Baffled to suit and has a baffled chamber around the pickup. It also gives much more ground clearance. Very reasonably priced too. Ford also do a RWD sump pan for little money but does retain the standard ish depth. Cooling. Westfield have said their car has been on track a fair bit with no cooling issues. I suspect my coolex combo isn't quite as efficient as the radtec one and I will be ducting the rad soon. Tyres. If you have T1 toyos. Forget it. You will have great fun turning them to smoke but the 250 just has too much grunt for them. My r888r's struggle to get near all the power down even when warmed up. R1Rs would be a good road/track compromise tyre. As Dave said I would def consider an msa bar too. When considering your first day I was told to book an airfield day or a track with plenty of runoff areas in case you overstep the car's or your own limits. Good advice. You can explore the car's limits without thinking about stuffing it into the Armco. They are great fun though. Can't wait to get mine on track.
