  3. Few glitches on the dyno today. The Pin connecting the masyer cylinder to the clitch pedal decided half way through that it didnt want to be in place any more. 45 minutes later (and a fair bit of swearing) managed to get it all connected back up to finish the mapping. Jonathon at JDM done a fantastic job and managed to get her running as sweet as nut. Final figures were 210.6 BHP and 175 torque Now roll on the sunny weather so can enjoy it

  4. A crossflow with a nice head, cam, light flywheel and a good gearbox still makes a great car. No reason you can't do the same kind of fuel injection conversion as we've done with Scott's CVH for close to £1000 too, if you're determined.

  5. Crossflows are outdated and underpowered mate......that's a lot of people's opinions. On the flip side, they are easy to look after and simple to work on, suit the westfield and most importantly, have a soul and a soundtrack to die for. If you manage to find one with a genuine 120 plus horses, then you will not be too far away from cars with a lot more power on paper if it's for road use. If you find one with 140 plus horses, then you can embarrass much more expensive and powerful machinery..... if you're on a low end budget, like I was, then picking up more modern engined cars at bottom end prices can be a lottery too, and they aren't as easy or as cheap to work on. Having said that, you can get a dog or a Good'un either going old school or modern. Cars on here are generally from enthusiasts and have been looked after and are good honest cars at a reasonable price, with some bargains thrown in. happy hunting and good luck on whatever you get. a crossflow vote from me though..... mart.

  10. Yes, that's the one. It's better to take the pies away and eat them at the harbour or by the river. We usually go to Achmelvich beach, which isn't far away, and eat them there. It's a narrow road to get to it, but do-able. My favourite is Venison & Cranberry pie - it's a little deer, err I mean dear (groan, I'll get my coat!). Ali, are you travelling down from Orkney with Geofferey, or are you going separately? I've lost track of who is joining the party at various points. I'll meet you at the Battlefield anyway, whichever day you are there. Our astronomical observatory (Highlands Astronomical Society) is on the same site at the other end of the car park from the visitor centre. Afterwards, we can drive down into the Cairngorms.

  11. So 7 months ago i started my winter upgrades. The upgrades started as planning as an engine and gearbox change from silvertop zetec and mt75 gearbox. Changing to what i planned to be a standard ST150 engine and type 9 gearbox. This (along with some carbon added) was meant to be the only change but as so often happens i got a little carried away with my self which caused a full strip and re build and as such the budget that id set to blown miles out of the water. Brand new Body work painted in kawasaki green. Re bushed all wishbones and a ton more carbon soon followed. The engine i purchased was an ST150 that had the internals re worked and fully re built, and an SPC type 9 box. Which againblew the budget even further. The engine is now running on jenvey throttle bodies and has a custom exhaust from AAS in newcastle. Car was meant to have the MOT 2 weeks ago but and oil leak from the gearbox put an end to that hope. Anyway shes passed today with flying colours. Time to put a few miles on the engine before it goes to JDM dyno on the 12th for a mapping session before i can fully enjoy it again.

  12. During first practice Alonso's McLaren died on the first lap out of the pits in Barcelona , Honda blamed the failure on an oil leak. Alonso said later: "The oil was coming out of a hole in the engine."

  16. That's ok Ali. We can sort meet times for the battlefield when I see you all on the Thursday for the trip to Durness. My daughter will be riding shotgun with me on the Thursday. So that's 2 pies while we're in Lochinver, and 4 to take back with us. That's £30 on pies! OMG! Looking forward to this. I just wish I could do the whole trip.

  17. The mighty Crossflow, underpowered? Possibly, but get a good one and they feel lively enough, make a glorious sound and are so easy to work on. I had a dizzy problem on mine last year, but a megajolt later and it runs like clockwork. Good luck looking.

  26. The more the merrier Ali, the Breakfast Meet is sort of separate to the Sprint almost; they do them regularly to tie up with whatever event is on the Saturday morning, so some turn up to watch the sprinting, track day etc and some just to get together and kick tyres! (Or eat breakfast, don't forget eating breakfast!!)

  31. The last three nights i have bern building my new 1/10 off road buggy - TLR 22 4.0. Having home back to racing these I have learnt a lot of practical suspension tuning that would have taken ten years with the Westfield and I also get more tuning options.

  32. That does look quite realistic, but I have a thing about carbon fibre effect, I think it goes back to when my Gran bought me a "rocksport" jumper for Christmas thinking it was a branded Rockport one, oh how my friends laughed.

  34. Happy birthday, Chris. Hope you and your family are well. 1987. First visit to the factory, guided tour by Chris. 1998. Drove the factory demonstrator. On my return Richard asked what happened to the missing front number plate? Don't know was my reply, but the failed donut might have been a clue. 1998, two weeks later, order placed for a yellow Westfield. 1998, two weeks later, order changed to red. 2000, SVA at the first attempt. Today. Still going strong, 25,000 miles. Mind you, that includes a few (?) sets of tyres. Thanks to the Smiths.

  35. Sorry I can't make this ... my seats are out of Roary as I'm replacing the carpet and my exhaust is going to Wun Off Exhausts (thanks for the advice @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Secretary) tomorrow. Roary should be back on the road in just under two weeks time.

  41. Me and my shirt in Revolution Square, Havana, Cuba. Lots of the old American cars about today although some of them sound worse than tractors, drop oil and belch black smoke. Not S uprising I guess considering how ingenious the owners need to be to keep them running.

  43. I fitted the new Spax shocks all round and Also fitted springs at the same time including the progressive rear springs. Not sure on what spring rate's to fit I went with the huge amount of advice I got from Tony @DamperMan and the results were night and day (Tony also powder coated them black instead of Spax yellow) , Tony couldn't have been more helpful and no point did I feel like I was just being fed sale's talk to get Me to buy . I've since had a full Geo done by Matt Seabrook ( ex south West AO ) in Bodmin and the car is like nothing I've ever driven feels so planted and positive even though I changed too nylon bushes the ride is not too firm . I know Tony is the MD at Spax but he's not just a bean counting pen pusher he's proper engineer and ex R&D ( if I remember correctly) And the way I see it if your going to develop And make a item to fit to your own car , with the facilities he has available you would make it as good or even better than you can already buy of the shelf.i can't say that the Spax shocks are any better than the others mentioned as a lot of people have them fitted to there car's And there are some excellent reviews on here about them from people more qualified to review them that I will ever be And I was going too go down the same route as it's often better the devil you know but I have no regrets with my choice.

  44. When I got home from work tonight, I took the Westfield out for about an hour. A good run and left it on the drive for 10 minutes before putting it away . To my surprise, and relief, no, NO oil drips for the first time in my ownership. Not counting my chickens yet, still going to check underneath every time I go out.

  48. After going to Silverstone on a track day my R1R's where well scrubbed, and ware across each block indicating they may not be the best tyre to hold together for me on the track. I've bought some R888r's for track days and wanted some wheels.. I decided to "up-cycle" the wheels which came on my car and have been replaced with TD 1.2's. Over the last few weeks In the evenings I have been stripping the old wheels. They where pug 205 speedline wheels. The finish was a sort of gunmetal metallic with the texture of 400 grit. Regardless of the finish and marks the paint was a total b***d to get off. I used paint stripper, an automated shot blaster and a sandblasted. As it was wet paint and I'm powdercoating I didn't want the paint to bubble so I had to get it all off. To be honest I got almost all off it off the fronts but was less bothered at the back. They are only wheels! ... this lunchtime I sent them though the paint oven twice and powder coated them. Basically a light coating of powder onto the cold wheel. Then though the oven, while still really hot add some more powder and sending back though the oven to cure. They turned out ok. Our oven holes are designed to fit the largest damper conceived. It's little challenge lining the wheels up to go though Its 220 degrees in their! a tight squeeze though the "S"es
