This year The Air Ambulance was the nominated charity for the Stoneleigh show. As some of you will have read in @Julie Hall - AO Representative, Peak District AO winter 2016 WW report we sadly lost member Ian Welch aka 'Molestrangler' in 2016. We asked Ian's wife Pat to nominate a Charity of choice and she chose The Air Ambulance. So we collected donations at Stoneleigh by selling tea, coffee, biscuits and crisps. We were also very generously given 8 charity drift rides by @Westfield Parts Dept @Julian Turner - Westfield Sportscars Ltd @Simon Westwood - Westfield Sportscars Ltd Westfield Sports cars Ltd which were raffled off over the weekend. We have managed to raise a total of £542.49p A very big Thank You to all who donated we were never expecting to raise this amount so all the fun of the weekend at Stoneleigh 2017 has also helped a very worthy cause.13 points

I think it is a great idea. unfortunately I didn't make the show, but if there had been a dedicated 'help point' it would have been a perfect place to start the search. I'd be happy to help develop this and use my current position as a way of documenting the journey into ownership. Its quite daunting at the start...I have been a long term Land Rover owner and now know what is good and bad, what they costs to buy, what vehicles are good value, what its like to own one etc, etc. But I'm a complete novice at Westfield's, so without help and direction am likely to make a mistake. I can't believe how helpful the club is and that attitude could easily be leveraged to produce a good platform for potential/new purchasers. Not only having a stand at the shows (as suggested above is a great idea), but also having a part of the website that can help with the questions and answers. Perhaps access to a list of people around the country who are willing to talk to potential buyers, show them their cars (I have already been offered a ride in someone's V8, and been invited to a trackday). My initial post all centred around what to buy and what is a good price. I started off looking at in essence a 200bhp 2 litre road legal track car, and then last week tried to buy another 2 litre car off the WSCC cars for sale. Now I'm thinking a softer well-sorted V8 would be more practical (if you can call a Westfield practical). But as many have said, sitting in them, actually being a passenger in the different ones will make a big difference Hope this helps... Dean3 points

I'm in for instruction on the track day again John - same deal as last year, free slots on first come, first served for the morning; paid slots in the afternoon3 points

'The ins and outs of ownership etc......A really good point. Perhaps we should have named stand/table/discussion point in the marquee titled 'tips for thinking about buying a second hand Westfield ' ...if people show sufficient interest we could offer them a ride ....if we can fix any insurance issues? See post from @Gordonwilly Here. If Dean (aka gordonwilly) was at the show and we had something like a discussion point we could have answered many of Dean's questions about ownership and buying. Dean probably attended the show and we may have answered a few questions.... but we may be missing an opportunity to help potential new owners through the 1. Can I have a sit in a car....... most people will not ask..just offering a 'try sitting in a car' may initiate conversation with people that may otherwise just walk through the marquee. 2. Do I want a Westfield, 2. What Westfield do I want and how much 3. How do i buy the right Westfield Thanks for the feedback above.. this seems obvious.. but I wouldn't of thought of it without the above post @Gordonwilly... please feel free to respond to this..... you are at this point now, your thoughts and feedback would be invaluable ..thanks3 points

After much sole searching and meeting good friends and new friends at Stoneleigh and building and owning the car for so long I have decided to keep the Westfield. Thanks everyone Ron3 points

As @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Secretary said, I can't imagine anyone turning up to a Club meet (with cars there) being turned down for a passenger ride. Personally, I would always try and encourage any potential member/owner by taking them for a spin - and am sure many (if not all) of my fellow members would do likewise - and am always happy to give them the lowdown on what's what (based on my own personal journey) So the same idea at the show might work... but how insurance would be covered is another matter...2 points

I think that's the best Stoneleigh purchase so far. Next thing to do, buy loads of tools, clear the garage and start a build thread.2 points

@Cleggy the Spyder Man can @PeterOz use some of those fantastic photos for the Summer issue of WW please? Also, I'm convinced of two things: a) You have a spidey stealth mode you engage to catch people unaware, which makes for great shots b) Your camera has a Stupid setting which makes the person you're photographing look like an imbecile, hence most of the photos of me2 points

First time to the show in 31 years. I personally think that the club put everything else to shame - the size, the professionalism and the friendliness. Too few staff on too many of the manufacturers stands and those that were there often appeared disinterested or completely lacking in knowledge. I met up with a couple of friends, one of whom was seriously interested in an Ultima, he went on to the stand and was immediately palmed off to a teenage "pretty " girl in a short skirt who clearly had no knowledge or interest in anything - a potential customer turned completely off the idea of an Ultima, fortunately his interest was rekindled by the owners club. Would be good to see some internal "live displays" - a build, an upgrade, technical talks for the non-technically minded I thoroughly enjoyed the day but definitely left with the feeling that if everyone had put as much effort in as the club did then it would have been a whole lot better2 points

Still using an old Tomtom. Hasn't been updated for a while, so it is getting a bit out of date. Still useful though as I know where the coaching inns are to change horses and am warned when approaching highwayman black spots. Jen2 points

One of my favorite Westfield photos ever. It would be a great shot of a car, on its own, but the setting and the occupants transform it into a perfect frozen moment of what owning the cars should be about2 points

I had a great time meeting new people. The outside club standard as always were interesting to look around. But I can't help but think that the show will become a one day event I thought the inside was dwindling on suppliers. Except for siltech who were very enthusiastic about some of the thing I were asking them. As always wscc stand was one of the best there and a great bunch of people to back it up2 points

A thread for all of our Stoneleigh photos - my first batch - have plenty more to come Just like to express my thanks to all that helped put on such a superb event - well done all brilliantly organised and thanks to Scott for his leadership during his term - think most would agree he has been a superb chairman - has been a buzz to be part of it my commiserations go out to Andy - I look forwards to seeing next year with I would imagine considerably less hair than you have today and a big thank you to all the incoming and outgoing commitee members1 point

I think from looking at the pic the suspension might be on full droop? Hence the funny angle. With the shock mounted the other way up (correct way) the bell crank clashes with the shock... I would lay money on there being a massive improvement just by trying it with the bar disconnected.1 point
-
I think only shocks the likes of Nitron etc. Will run upsidown correctly. Those look like the more normal twin tube intervals fitted to the bulk of Westfield's and I am pretty sure will not perform correctly as mounted. Didn't the inboard arb specify Nitron shocks so they could run upsidedown?1 point

I was on the hall 2 speed series stand we had a lot of peopole coming up to ask about different options of cars the in and outs of ownership , trying cars for fit , often once they got in they were hooked and thats without a ride in a westy , alot of interested owners were wary about the cars being too fast and scary to drive as owners we were able to give them our experience of westy ownership , not only did we promote the speed series but the club the forumn and more importantly the marque1 point

Hi, A great effort by all at Stoneleigh, and thanks to everyone involved. I've attended loads of events run by the MG Car Club, but felt much more welcome and part of this event. Thanks to the AO's for organising the convoy run's, that gets the day off to a great start. although I was in my MG I was made welcome on the run by Matt and the others from the Bucks, Beds & Herts group, and when we arrived at the stand I was quickly directed to the 'tin top' car park near by. I thought the badges were a great idea, it's good to put faces to names and several other members stopped me for a chat round the show, having seen the badge. How about emailing a printable badge that we can add our own info too, and just present it at the marquee for verification. The tool roll was a nice touch and made me feel the club appreciated the members turning out. Some seats & tables to make more of a cafe area would probably have kept people around the marquee longer. Cheers Gary1 point

Yes, good on yer Scott! "Strong and Stable" leadership is the key! No room here for a coalition of chaos, obviously...1 point
-
I too echo the thanks we owe Scott for his work. It is easy to forget that some of the changes he pushed through did not sit well with some and we lost some vocal members as a result. But that is the mark of a good leader and his team that they stuck to the job and as a result the club grew and became more professional and as a result now rank with the very best single make clubs in many ways. Scott strikes me as a man who will find "retirement" boring and will soon pop back up in his alter ego1 point

Really enjoyed my first visit to the event as a Westfield owner. Loads of ideas to improve my car and 'you lot' seem a friendly bunch! Look forward to getting involved.1 point
