The link has some extra pics in which you can see the ends of the tubes. http://markswesty.weebly.com/roof-bars.html The tubes are the same diameter as copper pipe so I got some plastic clips from B&Q to hold the cross piece in place, it comes apart so all fits into the half hood bag. The car will be at Stoneleigh so if you can find me I will be happy to show it going on the car. Will be there all weekend, Dave Eastwood can point me out.2 points

You're not wrong there Kev. They made the daughter, who became a mentalist. Still, better I found out before the big day and she ran away. I dont think it was me, I had a Westfield that was always costing money to fix, so the wedding was taking a long time to fund. Which saved my bacon ironically. God bless Westfields !!1 point

Ill be honest I don't think you can learn too much on the road.. I've had not had mine long and never drove anything like it before. Having only had fast tin tops. I did not really get comfortable with my car until I did a trackday as i did not know what it could do, or was going to do. You can learn so much more on a track. I'm much happier with it now. Not that I drive it crazy on the road or anything but i have an idea of the limits. They are also a right laugh in a Westfield so it's win win. Get one booked!1 point

It's funny - I love my current Westy (185bhp Zetec) but keep thinking that if ever I built (or bought) another it would either be a Busa or a V8. I love bikes, and so a bike engine would be a load of fun and close to my heart - but the noise and grunt of a V8 is so appealing, in a complete opposite end of the spectrum kind of way. No plans to change though1 point

Much as I like the look of CSR style wings, you do see them everywhere now, I think the real carbon versions of classic Westfield wings like Andy @Sycho has look fantastic; would be my choice too, if I was still in the cycle wing club. (Though the vented CSR wings from @carbon-nv might always just tempt me to the dark side..) Perhaps I need some carbon clamshells!1 point

Washed please Seriously though, would be good to have some back if they are in good order and not upcycled into polishing cloths. There are limited tees available, so if you can wear what you already have that would also be spot on - thanks.1 point

Yes I looked into the LS before I went to the current engine. It will fit and with a t5 transmission it is OK but the tremec is the problem with width. Not sure it's been done yet but no doubt it can with ingenuity this club is famous for An LS with tremec was built but not finished due to width issues but the getrag from a jaguar xjs is a fit for LS engines apparently. As for agreed valuation as others said with A plan and 7 photos it is OK. Cheers jon1 point

You're not asking daft questions Yanto, not at all. Depending on your height relative to the hood, it can make driving unbearable. Just like Rhett, I first used mine going down to Stoneleigh, it would continually smack the top of my head without the braces, and from about forty mph upwards, which in a convoy with no control over the overall speed, was hell. I ended up with a severe migraine after the first three quarters of an hour, and just like Rhett, ended up loosening the seat belts, to a dangerous level, and sliding down in the seat. (If I'd had an accident, I'd have slid straight out of the harnesses and down the footwel.) Half hoods, or bra tops as originally known were first designed, and made out of much, much lighter weight materials than we tend to see now, and weren't actually intended for wet weather use. They were intended as sun screens for those touring in hot countries, where the exposure to the sun, in an open car, is just merciless, when in traffic etc. hence they were made of much lighter materials. Of course, it was soon realized that they were so quick to put up, and gave adequate shelter from rain showers, that they soon started being used in wet weather too, hood materials were beefed up accordingly to something more water tight. Use of hood braces are common place with most manufacturers of the hoods, and on all Seven types, whether Caterham or Westfield, Locost etc. Westfield's version of the hood, (or at least the first generation was), is further complicated by being made of Mohair, which with occasional treatments from a reproofer is an excellent hooding material, however it's also quite stretchy. Mine deffinately needing more tightening after a few years of use than it did originally. (I know, because I had to alter slightly the positions of the Velcro pads.) it still worked absolutely fine though. Also be aware, from what I've heard and seen from people using the Westfield version, the design seems to have been tweaked a bit since the first few batches. The rear straps seem to fix differently to mine. (Sorry, I can't tell you exactly how though.) But do be prepared if trying to copy a setup from photos, that your straps might not quite match. The windscreen angle is the first thing to tweak if you can, though!1 point

Maybe I'm expecting too much, but as it is it is the fit on my car makes it unpleasant., I'd read all the reports about how good they are and how well it worked, and yet mine isn't, it moves up and down about 6 inches, all I was trying to do was ascertain if other people were having the same problem as I haven't been in other cars fitted with a half hood, the best place to ask was here, as it turns out it looks like it is the car build rather than the hood, people have devised methods to make it better (fit, form and function), which is what my question was about, so they have helped me. If people think I'm asking daft questions, expecting too much, then fine, but don't waste your time replying!1 point

But this is the way of the world now with social media. It only takes one idiot, or one devoted person, which ever way you look at it to start a campaign and the bandwagon grows especially if there is a celebrity involved. The BOE is spineless and should have said there are a lot of more important things to worry over so we are not changing but hey ho easier to give in and spend money to do something that pleases a very small % of the people. All at the same time making vegans look even more loony to many. As for them wearing leather etc. I have a friend whose son is a rabid vegan, anti fox hunting anti battery hens, you name it he is anti, yet his Saab has a full leather interior, which he justifies by saying it was already in there so his choice made no difference. I have no issue with Vegans until their choice impacts on others which this with the bank notes has.1 point

Some unscientific numbers here: Tallow is rendered cow or mutton fat, but for the sake of argument let's go with cows here. How much do cows weigh? Between 1,100kg for a male (bull) and 720kg for a female. So, on average, a cow weighs 910kg.The body fat content of an average cow is 25 percent. Therefore, the amount of fat in an average cow's body is 227.5kg.How many kilograms of this fat is contained in offcuts you could use to make tallow? About 40kg, according to a man at the James Elliott butcher in Islington. How much tallow is used in one note, according to the Bank of England? "A trace", which chemically means less than 100 parts per million, or 0.01 percent. A polymer consultant I called confirmed that the tallow present in a given polymer would be a fraction of a single percentage.New £5 notes weigh 0.7g, therefore there is roughly 0.00007 g of tallow present in one £5 note. How many fivers are in circulation now, and therefore will be around by May of 2017, when all the old paper ones have been phased out? 329 million notes. To work out how much tallow will be used in total in all of these fivers, we need to multiply 0.00007g by 329 million, which gives us 23,030g, or 23kg. And if you get about 40kg of tallow-worthy fat from the average cow, how many cows would you need to make every single £5 note in circulation?Just over one half a cow. How many cows do we slaughter in the UK each year? An estimated 26 million. There will be millions of banknotes contaminated by meat products from either the seller or buyer of said meat product who handled the note, plus heaven knows what else anyone's been touching, and I haven't seen or heard of anyone refusing to touch a banknote until they've been disinfected. People really are hypersensitive muppets sometimes.1 point
