Cost/benefit analysis is subjective and a personal choice. I can honestly say for me that the benefit of being able to ask questions here has helped me solve things, or given me peace of mind that far outweighs a few quid spent. Cheers Ian3 points

So the lists are in one place, attached:- 1. The list of campers and non campers (e.g. people arriving in a tintop/volunteering, but are not camping) Campers list (v4 25-4-17).pdf Please look at the list and check it, we do get things wrong occasionally. (email stoneleigh@wscc.co.uk with any corrections... please don't post on here or PM ) 2. The Tintop list: who is arriving in what cars and need free entry (also here) Camping and vehicle details SORTED BY NAME (V16 25-4-17).pdf Thanks to everyone for volunteering, We had so many volunteers I don't think everyone made it onto to volunteer rota this year. Drop into the the marquee for a chat and a drink, if this is your first stoneleigh and/or you're new the club. come and find us and we'll introduce you to everyone.2 points

I feel I ought to comment at length on this, as I’ve been on both sides of the fence. I agree that sprints and hillclimbs do not appear to be value for money. All that for 5 minutes fun, whereas a trackday will give you hours for the same money. A fair chunk of the entry fee goes to the venue fee, and the MSA fee and insurance. Organising Clubs are not rich and risk their survival with each event. Officials and Marshals provide their services for free. The equipment costs have to be covered - the certified extinguishers, signs and red flags all cost money, and might only be used once a year. These events take a load of organising – all of which is done for free. As for the number of runs, this is usually defined by the regs. I’ve probably broken a rule by making this flexible. Firstly, it depends on the number of entries, so if it finishes at 3:00 pm, it’s probably short of entries and running at a loss. Usually stoppages slow the event, and if the ambulance is needed, there can be over an hours delay. Certain accidents result in a mandatory trip to hospital, and then they expect you to get a cab back. I guessed 2 practice and 3 timed runs on the basis of a low entry, which worked, but more recently, a high entry event looked like heading for a 3rd timed run, but then there were a few stoppages. The problems in organising these events are unbelievable. The paperwork gets lost, and when it turns up, its for a slightly different event. Burger van cancels 3 days beforehand. The portaloo man gets lost. Nobody can find the extinguisher certificate. The new fully automatic timing system fails so its all worked out on cards and excel. And to make it safer it’s becoming more complicated and expensive due to ongoing accidents in races and rallies. There’s a shortage of venues, and a club has to be brave to try a new event. Established events seem to make money, but not a lot. We get there in the end, but its not as much fun as it used to be. Finally, this is the view from the south, and if you have to get up at 5:00 am, going home early isn't that daft.2 points

I'm so glad I found the issue, also changed the silicon hoses in the engine bay also. Now ready for http://www.nationalkitcarshow.co.uk/index.php see you there2 points

Impressive. I always got the impression there was a lot of farting about at MSA events - I guess that proves it. I've also done a half sprint, half trackday with MoT before - between 1:30 and 5 we got 7 runs! 'Only' 50 cars or so though.2 points

All of the above, albeit entrants were about the same (more than MIRA though, for example). Scrutineering started at 7.10am but was available from the night before, briefing was at 8.40am and sighting laps started at 9am sharp. Common sense approach to runs & releasing cars made it very slick. 5 min delay between each round to download results & then straight back on with it. 2 sighting laps, 1 untimed practice run and 2 timed runs all completed by 12.30pm.2 points

Not sure I understand the issue.. a half hood was thought of to stop you getting wet in a sudden downpour yes they flap about a bit over a certain speed but so what if it keeps you dry that's the point. for me part of the fun of having a Westfield is that it has problems and imperfections my tin tops get me from A to B without even thinking about it. my Westfield on the other hand is loud difficult and has a flappy half hood ( used it 3 times in as many years ) bring on the imperfections I say...1 point

We could get a few people together and make it into a bit of a show stopper. Maybe a few dancing girls, fireworks, guess the time to erect?1 point

Hi Julie I would say it's not too difficult, the inner section has some technicality to it but nothing you won't find on every other circuit in the country. It's a really good venue for a first trackday, seems to attract good folk. If you're nervous, try to get out early while everyone is finding their feet. It also helps to pop a novice sticker on the back of your car so people know to give you time and space (these can actually be bought from Blyton, but also online, black x on yellow backing). Keep an eye on your mirrors and move over to let faster cars past, but hold your line through corners - no-one should be overtaking on any corners even if the car in front is a lot slower, moving over or leaving gaps only seems to encourage idiots to be stupid, so just hold your line until you're on a straight, then indicate and move over. As Terry says, definitely DO push it! Mazda's are made for getting a little loose, so keep going until you get sideways! Hope you have a great time, look forward to your thoughts. Barny1 point

It's a brill circuit for a beginner as it's a small circuit so easy to learn. Just drive at you own pace which you are comfortable with, not too slowwww as you won't get a buzz. Don't try and drive as fast as others as you will quickly come out of your comfort zone and you might not enjoy it as much. Listen to the briefing as it's all good info. Westy drivers are very accommodating and will stick to the overtaking as per the briefing so safe as eck. Good luck and enjoy Terry1 point

On the same subject, I'd personally avoid cotton braided fuel hoses - I bought some for mine initially (from a well known dealer) and it looked really smart - after about 6 months I decided to reroute and shorten one of the hoses - on cutting through I noticed cracks in the actual rubber so I stripped the cotton braiding off and the "rubber" hoses nearly crumbled apart . A case of what you can't see is usually carp !!. My advice is use plain good quality hose and check it regularly.1 point

Count me in for the Sunday pending a longer drive test this weekend to make sure I'm not overheating or leaking coolant on my feet still!1 point

My son and I are planning on coming up on Sunday. First time for us at any show, not having had a kit car before, and having only just joined the WSCC. We will be coming up in the LS2 Roadrunner, so if anyone fancies getting ideas about how to shoehorn a stupid engine into a Westfield, or similar, happy to help. Looking forward to it, martin1 point

It is the Comp Secs/Organising Teams of each club who need to get their ducks in a row when writing their regs. I do not know why some clubs only allow 2 timed runs and others like the WSCC have no limitation except time. We as the SSOT need to learn from these instances and ensure that the clubs we are invited to and add to our calendar will allow and run as many timed runs as "time" allows (even though their club competition may only allow a specified number to count on the day)! In the main each club needs each other to ensure each event is well attended and is not a financial disaster! The solution is jointly in the hands of each club to ensure continued enjoyment and ultimate survival. Glutey1 point

Wow - took one look at the pics of silicone hose and though you were lucky they didn't give you more than just a smell of fuel. Can't believe someone used them for actual fuel feed hose (despite the fact that some silicone hose is sold as ok for fuel) - you live and learn!1 point
-
Excellent, that's all three issues cracked, well done! Now just get out and enjoy it!1 point

Update and Fuel smell fixed I treated the westfield to a coolant flush and new antifreeze etc, that has helped with the the running temperatures and reduced by 10 degrees. Regarding the fuel smell issue it turned out to be the pipe work that the previous owner had fitted. When the pipes have been removed they absolutely stink of petrol and since swapping them out my garage air is a lot cleaner. Spoke to http://www.autosiliconehoses.com and they have confirmed that the hoses are not designed for continuous fuel use.1 point

I have a couple of spare standard in-braced "square type" roll bars, could take one down to Stoneleigh if it's of any use - you can have one for a tenner, if it's of any use? (not sure what postage would be, but obviously they are a bit bulky/heavy).1 point

All 400 tool rolls now finished, ready for Stoneleigh: Now to find a place in the house to store them - they fill my estate car completely! The company that did the screen printing obviously want more business off the club and without my asking, made a few sample foam coasters - clever sods. It's good to be chairman sometimes! Apparently they've also done a couple of sample mugs, looking forward to seeing them - show bribe for next year's Stoneleigh, maybe?1 point
