  1. Hi Folks. just joined the WSCC and thought I would say hello. I hope to make this my first of many posts as I am about halfway through what can only be described as a renovation of a 1996 SEiW. My car has never been finished by the previous owners and never been registered or SVA'd / IVA'd. Glutton for punishment? Maybe. Foolhardy? Maybe. Hooked on everything Westfield? Definitely. I hope to speak/meet some of you at Stoneleigh this year. I'm really looking forwards to seeing how the Carbs to Injection project will finish! That was a great thread to read through, and In all honesty, it was that thread that convinced me to join this club. Thanks for reading my little introduction, and I look forwards to making full use of this clubs wealth and breadth of invaluable knowledge! Gary.

  4. Yes Paul, the journey has FINALLY come to an end today Paul and I made short work of the re-installation and with a little tweaking had a lovely idle at 1K rpm. The new starter is perfect and the new flywheel/clutch combo too. Should have done it much earlier in the build. Hey ho... Just need to cut a hole in the bonnet for the filter and get it an MOT. And then we're done

  5. To assist our noble webmaster and his long-suffering family, I've had a look on his behalf. Just to reiterate, the PM storage limit for members has always been 50 conversations. (If you saw a number higher than 50, it's probable that included PMs that had been started by another party which they had since deleted, but which was still included in the total number of PMs in your list.). AOs have a limit of 100, and Admin have unlimited conversation storage out of necessity, but I've never had more than 20 in storage personally. As you can deduce from this, limits are set and based on what user group you are in, and cannot be adjusted for individual members. One of the reasons for limits is the same as there are limits on photos - storage capacity. We didn't want (and can't have) the forums turning into a Flickr type setup because this is a forum, not a photo storage website. This is the same reason posting videos directly in a post is not allowed - size. The new forums have the ability to allow attaching files in PM conversations, thus increasing the size of the PM accordingly. This is one of the reasons the limit has been previously set at 50 conversations. Please also bear in mind a conversation can be a PM and one reply, or a PM and 1,000 replies, so that varies the amount of storage room they take up as well. However, we can trial increasing the limit to see if there are any repercussions that would affect the smooth operation of the forums. To this end, I have changed the limit from 50 to 100 for members to see what happens, if anything. If there are no issues after a period of viability has passed, we can stay at 100. Here comes the conditions: a) If it does cause issues, the limit will be reduced back to 50 immediately b) If a) occurs and you have more than 50 conversations going, we cannot guarantee the conversations in excess of 50 will not be instantly deleted, or which conversations will be deleted - I suspect it would be the oldest ones first c) The webmaster shall have the final say in all matters as he has to look after things that we all rely on That's it - let's see what happens.

  6. It's a question of equalising the air pressure over and under the hood. Have you considered putting a few vent holes in the top of the hood? That would probably stop it flapping about so much.

  7. That's normally how you can tell that you forgot to put any oil back in it after a rebuild!

  9. A new thread as requested. My idea is that it would be good to have a section called 'Build Threads' located between 'The Start Line' and 'Tech Talk'. This section would accommodate all existing and new build threads as they emerge. Basically they would be 'Thinking about it', 'Building it' and 'Fixing it'. Whaddaya think?

  10. Knockhill track day Monday 22nd May, open pitlane, clockwise, 105db .. but never been tested there, 50 car limit, so never much in the way of queues, £170. I haven't booked yet, but hopefully there'll be at least me and two pals up for it. I wasn't going to bother with trying for a group discount, but if there was enough interest, say.. six cars plus? I might give it a try, but no promises. Knockhill is a fantastic little circuit in my opinion, and well worth a journey from the northern half of the country. Camping at the circuit is usually allowed afaik.

  21. I'd try and get the bonnet repaired. You can use the opposing side of the bonnet as a stencil. Cover in polythene, the opposing area lay some matting with gel, to hold the shape. Then remove the tin tray off the offending side and lay the polythene and buck on the bonnet and screw it on to make a seal . Then from the underside, fibre glass up. Allow to cure and then unscrew the 'buck' You can then fill and finish reasonably and then take it to a body shop and ask them to prep and paint. Older bonnets in good nick will be rare, let alone one that fits the panels already done. You know this bonnet fits . Just an idea.

  24. The IVA thing did cross my mind, but the main reason is due to it being absolutely hideous! . It is a home made aluminum unit designed to cover the air filter from the original 1.4 cvh engine that came with the car! I never planned to use this set up and had originally planned to replace the bonnet anyway, but willing to keep my options open... Scott- that's the post! I was amazed by the willingness of other club members to jump in and assist with your conversion and how keen they were to spend your money! Plus, it would have been criminal to have to part with that little beauty! I look forward to seeing it at Stoneleigh. Hope the conversion goes smoothly.

  26. Welcome to the club. Nice to see another older car to be coming onto the road for the first time. Best of luck with the build and yes, the bonnet scoop maybe a difficult one for IVA.

  27. Gary and thanks for joining us! Looks like your car isn't that far away from completion! I'm sure it will turn out well. Interesting that the thread that made your mind up to join was the one where the members are helping me spend my money and convert from carbs to throttle bodies at Stoneleigh. It's rather typical of what a great bunch of generous, warm people we have in the club, very much a happy if dysfunctional family - I'm sure you'll find it invaluable and enjoyable too. Look forward to meeting you at Stoneleigh

  30. Hope I've done this right. There should be four pics attached to this reply. If i have done it right, the bonnet is not staying in that colour scheme! I have removed the rest of the green stripe, but the bonnet needs the scoop and the stripe removing. may be easier to buy a new bonnet...

  35. I added some further straps to mine which I attached to fittings on the roll bar stays and to the bottom of the windscreen pillars. Together with the poles from roll bar to windscreen my roof has proven to be pretty good. I have since added zips to both roof and the top of the doors to seal and firm it up even more. It's meant a bit of work getting it to this stage but I'm happy with the outcome. I'll see if I can upload some photo's later today.

  41. Can I just say, in defence of the mighty Dagenham powerplant, mine hasn't spilt a drop since it was fired up again after being put back together. I'm now having to worry about the possibility of rust underneath!

  42. True bonding session with the car yesterday - was important for me to become totally comfortable with pressures, temperatures on a prolonged hard drive and to get feel for the balance of the car 7.15 am start and first 55 miles to Corwen on the A5 to meet up with the other cars for the day E46 330i convertible B5 S4 running just over 500bhp Corrado 16V running 888's and the surprise of the day Griffith 500 Route seemed to centre around the Shell fuel station on the A5 just outside Betws-y Coed as I needed to top up every 100 miles or so First action was the top two legs of the EVO Triangle - the A543 from Pentrefoelas and the B4051 - not really worth doing the bottom section as its just the A5 so turned round and did it in the other direction Said it before - whilst the EVO Triangle is good there are better roads out there and we then proceeded to drive them. From the A5 (Cerrigydrudion) we took the B4501 to the A4212. Turning right on the A4212 we took the road until it met the A470 at Trawsffyndd where we turned right to Ffestiniog. From Ffestioniog we took a right on to the B4391 until it reached the A4212 where we turned round and went back until we reached the B4407 to the A5. Reaching the A5 we took a left and went to Betws-y Coed for lunch. After lunch we headed to Llandudno on the A470 and did a tour of the Great Orme before heading to the A55. Quick blast on the A55 through the three tunnels - great noises from mine and the TVR before coming off at Bangor and joining the A4244 to Llanberis. Meeting the A4086 we took a left and right up and down the Llanberis Pass - fantastic scenery but traffic always prevents a proper attack of the roads. This took us back to the A5 and a right turn back to Corwen. The day ended for the others but heading home B4401 down to the B4391 where turned left and took probably the best road of the day, clear roads, setting sun before hanging a right on to the B4580, followed by a left on the A490 and a left on to B4393 and B4398 bring me back on to the A5 at Knockin and a final 20 mile journey home Hugely enjoyable day - the surprise being just how well a stock Corrado 16V (albeit running on 888's) kept up Vital stats for the day Breakages, damage, mishaps - nil Speed camera vans seen - 3 Unmarked police cars spotted - 1 red Auris estate Oil and water used by Westfield - nil Mileage - for me (from Telford) - just over 300 Fuel used - approx. 19 gallons of Shells finest V Power Nitro
