  1. I'm a little OCD when it comes to cleanliness so every car I have ever bought has been subjected to a deep clean, even brand new cars. End of a few days of intensive car cleaning with BMW waxed, Merc fully machine polished and waxed and today was the Westfields turn in readiness for a North Wales trip on Tuesday Front wheels off, cleaned and waxed, full clean and checkover of all suspension, bodywork clayed, prepped and topped off with a layer of Mitchell and King Japan, a lovely soft wax that I borrowed from a friend, not that the 20+ waxes I already have would not have done but always keen to try different ones

  4. If there are no takers on this, is anyone interested in meeting in Matlock and having a run around the Peak District instead?

  5. Today was the premier of a new and very special member of the Peak District area, Alan's new best friend 'The Derbyshire Duck' Alan and 'Ducky' called for us, and we all called for Big Andy and Natalie, with Debbie following in the tin top. Off we went on the A1 south to meet Andrew and Clare, Ian, Martyn and Sue in McDonalds. Quickly joined by Chris and Mo we all arrived in convoy and parked up nice and close to the ice cream van. Flying the flag for Westfield Some people were properly organised with chairs and brollies, weren't they Martyn and Andrew? We were some of the first cars there so we could watch the others arriving. Hundreds of them there were, the best turn out yet. Ben had got it well organised and had moved the entrance right up to the top, so not to cause a traffic jam on the main road. The marshalls worked efficiently and got everyone into position nice and quickly, I think they had a bit of a hunch that it was going to be busy. Other cars arriving, well I had to photograph the MX5 Mk1, what else did you expect. After a wander about and a chat with our friends from the NWKCOG we said our goodbye's and headed for home. For us, we followed Alan home on a much improved route to mine and we will definitely take that way again, so thank you Alan. Great company, would be better if there were a few more classic cars there, would be better if the roads twisted a bit more, perhaps a hill or two would help, still it was good to see everyone and meet Ian's new car. Next weekend is Easter, it's Cars and Coffee in Grantham on the Saturday, Robin Red Spider's meet on the Sunday, with a wiggle back through the Peak District. We have renamed Robin, he is now called Robin Red Kite, well, the pub he meets at is called The Red Kite!

  7. Thanks to Mike, yesterday's breakdown was sorted in time for a proper run out for the first time since last July and the mighty crossflow felt very lively. Great morning guys, sorry I had to leave early, but a BBQ and unlimited cubra libres was too hard to resist in this weather!

  10. I give to you, blonde pigtails, in a yellow Westfield, how good is that! In a sunny Matlock we met Alan, Chris, Gail and Ali and eventually we hooked up with Dave We set off through Matlock Bath with all it's motorbikes Off up the twisty 'Via Gellia' road, now with Dave in a 5 car convoy. to meet the Manc's crew for lunch in the Bull 8 Westfield's became 9 when we came out of the pub to find another Westfield parked up. A man and his son on a run out from Lichfield, so we invited them and they joined us on our journey to Edale. 8 Westfield's in my mirror looking great. We must have been an eyeful as we whipped along the dry, country roads and slowed through the pretty villages, so people could get a proper look at us all. Loads of people were sat outside pubs in Bradwell, Tideswell and Castleton. Then, it was up the Winnats Pass, with no cyclists and being relatively empty, it was good fun. Up and over Mam Nick, where I had warned everyone that we needed to go slow on the way down, or you will lose your sump. We got there and surprisingly there was all this lovely new tarmac, although we still went slow, for the views, I can't wait to come back and go UP it on a quiet day. The cyclist might not overtake us then! We arrived at The Rambler Inn for drinks, with views over Kinder Scout and the Mam Tor ridge. After a refresh Dave and Wendy, Terry and Carolyn, and Graham headed North West over the Snake Pass. Chris peeled off towards Sheffield and the rest of us went back to Matlock. We had a quick pit stop back at The Artist Corner and said our goodbye's to Gail and Ali. We first met, and last saw them, on the parade lap at Silverstone, where they had promised to join us sometime in the Peak District. I am very glad that they have kept their promise and come all the miles to be with us today, thank you. That just left Dave, Alan and us, dirty stop outs to pop into Willersley Castle for a last brew in the sinking sunshine. As we left Matlock we rather grimly watched someone doing chest compression's on a motorbiker, who was laid bleeding on the pavement. As we sat at the Castle the helicopter went over, with blue lights everywhere, it did not look good for the man, who was probably nearer 70 than 60. We all finished the day in good spirits, albeit we agreed to feed children to polar bears, oh dear the conversation did it's usual nosedive, it must be the fresh air. No alcohol required. Thanks for coming everyone, it's been an absolute joy.

  11. I picked this up this morning at the Ford show, not bad for £2, but it's a Caterham not a Westfield. Not for long, let the modification begin.

  12. Entirely pointless having LEDs fitted then, what you need is an indicator relay that works with LEDs fitted. Another thing to check is the filler cap, it could simply be a vented cap and you will get some fuel vapour from that.

  14. Well, I finally took the plunge after umming and ahhing about wether to remove the spare wheel or not. Part of me really liked the look with it on but the other part hankered after some performance gains. Unfortunately I had the older style L shaped securing bracket that was connected to the chassis with two u-brackets, and once removed left a inch sized hole. After removing the black protecting foam I also uncovered a second similar sized hole as well as damage to the rear tub from where the wheel had been rubbing over the last 20 years. After a couple of evenings with the filler and sand block I was happy enough to continue and apply the yellow vinyl circle which I had colour matched and made up locally. Today I overlaid the westy logo which was a bit tricky, but I'm really pleased with the results. Just need to straighten up the number plate bracket now somehow.

  15. The SJCAM certainly comes with a large pack of mounts, including a 2- piece clamp that will fit 38mm tube and various adaptors for correcting angles.

  20. As some people know I found a car built in 1995 with 108 miles on the clock. After a little bit of work and some bodgeing I got a full mot on it today. My other car will still be built but this could be a good stop gap.

  22. I think the on line tool used to make these disappeared years ago. Before even BCF's was done. There's a link to the on-line album of the ones I did back then here though. I'm afraid all you can do now is just copy an existing one, or if any good with Photoshop, I guess you could alter the number to be unique!

  25. Derbyshire Police have since confirmed that as a result of a collision between two motorbikes, one man did indeed die at the scene. The condition of the second rider, or if indeed he was even injured was not given. A salutary reminder for those of us out and about, blatting in groups to take care amongst ourselves as well as around other motorists. There but for the grace.... and all that.

  26. ...And a sad reminder both to be careful out there, and to enjoy what time you've got, 'cause none of us know when it'll be up.

  31. How to go 6 months back in time in a day... Still awaiting a clutch delivery (damn those slow posting sellers!) but eventually got the flywheel off and the new one on. Even my wife appreciated the difference between the 'boat anchor' and the retro-ford one. Fingers crossed the weather next (long) weekend is just as nice as today, otherwise I'll be struggling for space inside the garage... As a side note, I tried my old clutch cover on the new flywheel and it fitted perfectly! Wasn't expecting that... Guess my old clutch is a Pinto one... The new starter motor is also already a better fit than the 'unknown' one I got. I'd almost say "money well spend"

  34. Thank you for your suggestions. Today I have replaced both calipers with new M16 type and mintex pads.... BUT in doing so I've now got a leak coming from one of the braided hoses actually from inside union (calliper side) does anyone have any idea of what kit I need to replace the goodridge hoses?
