...a free Club Tool Roll for all club members! (Tools not included, obviously!) Robust and made from tough polyester, it has 22 individual compartments plus holders for 8 x 1/4" drive sockets and 7 x 3/8" drive sockets; press toggles for adjusting the length of the securing cords; and a handy carrying handle. (It has also passed the fearsome Lady Chairman Inspection Test ©, so quality is assured. ) It's the ideal thing for the boot box or behind the seat in your Westfield, and it's our way of giving back to our wonderful members. OK, now the dreaded Ts & Cs - read them carefully, I shall type this only once. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a blatant, unapologetic bribe to get the best possible member turnout at Stoneleigh - it's as simple as that. You will only get a free Club Tool Roll if: > You attend the National Kit Car Show at Stoneleigh, Warwickshire on 30 April -1 May 2017 > You are a WSCC Member, Joint Member, Trader, or Sponsor The procedure will be simple - you can collect your Tool Roll when you collect your name badge in the outside marquee. This will make it easy for us to ensure only members receive a Tool Roll, and that they each receive only one. What will not be allowed: > Taking more than one Tool Roll > Collecting a Tool Roll for another member who can't make it to Stoneleigh > Posting a Tool Roll before Stoneleigh - collection at Stoneleigh only > Reserving a Tool Roll before the show - too complicated, too resource tapping. Show up early to avoid disappointment We have a limited quantity of these and they will be distributed strictly on a first come, first served basis. Any left over after the show will be taken to Silverstone where the same procedure will apply - we will have the leftover name badges from Stoneleigh so we will know who didn't make it to Stoneleigh and is therefore entitled to a free Tool Roll. After Silverstone, if there are any left, we will send them out to any overseas member who asks for one. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The National Kit Car Show is a great event, and the WSCC have by far the biggest presence of any club there. The Stoneleigh Organising Team do a fantastic job putting together a terrific show and great time with no reward apart from seeing happy members and the gratification that comes with giving back to the club. Between this and all the other things the club and the show have to offer, you'd be mad to miss it, SO LET'S BE HAVING YOU THERE!!! ...and before any of our fashion conscious members asks, this is the only colour scheme available!8 points

Stoneleigh 2017 General Information Show Dates are: Sunday 30th April 2017 & Monday 1st May 2017 Set-Up Day is: Saturday 29th April 2017 This is an “INFORMATION ONLY” thread which will remain locked but will be updated as necessary May Day Bank Holiday heralds in the National Kit Car Show at StoneleighPark and the WSCC need YOUR help. Your show organisers this year are: ·Trevor Little (trevturtle)– General and escalation point ·Stu Faulkner (finkangel) – Marquee ·Marcus Barlow (marcusb) – Hall 2 Below is a “what’s on” for the WSCC at Stoneleigh in 2017 as a bit of an appetite whetter. 1 Exterior Club Marquee The following activities will take place on the exterior club stand. · Westfield Avenue · Member Autojumble · Membership services · WSCC merchandise · Snack bar and bag drop off · AO display · Prize Draw for annual membership (Raffle number is on the flyers you receive when you park your car) · Charity raffle for rides on the Westfield drift experience (sold at the snack bar) · Members drop off area (helmets, coats and bags that you don’t want to carry around all day) · AGM Sunday 17:30 · Post AGM catered Hog Roast / BBQ / Sounds (with some beer/food supplied by the WSCC for club members) · Display Cars Manning the exterior stand. Feedback from Members has pointed to the fact that people are unwilling to do more than two hours at a stretch on the club stands and this is fine as long as we have the numbers. The more volunteers the less we’ll all have to do. As in previous years we have a people requirement of about 20 per day to run all the various activities. This number allows us not to commit you to any more than a two hour stint. We are also looking to boost the number of meters and greeters. This is important as Members and the public will need to be directed to our Hall 2 location. It’s also something the vast majority of you spoke out about and/or agreed we should do better in 2017 – so your opportunity to make good on this is now. For more information on signing up to help, see link Exterior Parking We’ll have parking marshals to help you create Westfield Avenue and direct you into the marquee or additional display areas. If you have a car for sale, please tell the marshals and they will direct you to the marquee where you will be able to park up and display your for sale sign. When you arrive to park up we ask that you follow the parking marshals directions as coordinating the placement of 150+ Westfields can be a little like herding cats. For TinTops, Vans and trailers, we have secured parking opposite the WSCC camp site. You will need to come and see the organisers to obtain a pass before parking. 2 Interior Club stand We will have the whole back wall in Hall 2 this year where Club Sponsors Northampton Motorsport (NMS), A-plan and Aerodynamix will also be advertising, but do go and see them on their own stands A-plan (Avenue M Stand 430) and Aerodynamix (Hall 1, Stand 63). A number Speed Series cars and information about joining the Speed Series. Drop into Hall 2 and see John (Panda) and his Speed Series members. Manning the interior stands. Our competition cars owners, sponsors and traders will no doubt staff themselves over the Sunday and Monday as ever but we would like to compliment this by having a bigger presence of members, not only those who are looking after their own cars but we need people to chat generally about the club and support our traders and sponsors. For more information and to sign up to help, see link 3 Camping Free camping on the WSCC plot is available to show volunteers only · Electricity hook-ups available · It can be a quite place post show, so if you are the party type, the public area has more of a party atmosphere · You will only be able to camp if you have a wristband · Members who are NOT helping are advised to use the Public camping area or make other arrangements Please note that the camping area is available for WSCC volunteer members only to use over the show weekend. Camping will be roped off and monitored by WSCC Members AND Stoneleigh security this year. After a few years of “issues”, this is to be strictly enforced as not managing this upsets those have the put in the effort to support the Club and it is noted and beginning to wear thin with our hosts! More specific information can be found link 4 WSCC Annual General Meeting (AGM) The club’s AGM will be held on Sunday 30th April at 5.30pm The venue for the AGM will be the WSCC marquee, please make every effort to attend, it's your Club and the AGM is the opportunity for you to tell the Committee and your fellow Members what you think, what you want and what you don't like. We will be providing additional chairs for those members who wish to sit for the meeting and will be asking all non WSCC members to vacate the marquee prior to the AGM. Please also keep all exterior noise down whilst the AGM is underway. It would be great to have some “doormen” for this please. The first prize draw of the weekend will be at the AGM. 5 Sunday WSCC Members BBQ and Social. As per previous years we will be holding a Social for WSCC members and invited guests and will be providing food and beer. We have scheduled this straight after the AGM (6.30pm) in the hope that the attendees of the AGM will stay on if they are not camping over already. We will gladly BBQ food that members bring along in addition to the food we are supplying, which this year is a fully catered Hog Roast and some beer. If you are intending to join us Sunday evening and require any vegetarian options please bring this along and we will be happy to BBQ it Please note that this is an inclusive social, but it is for Members, Sponsors, Traders and invited guests, please remember this and please note that we are required to keep noise to a reasonable level and not too late – after all, some of us need to get up early to get the show going again for you and the visiting public. 6 People – most important Bearing in mind the interior changes to Hall 2 and acting on your feedback, it’s vital this year that we have sufficient people to breathe life into the plans and make it all work. In order for us to run the above activities we have the following people requirements. We need at least 12 people to setup the interior and exterior stands; Saturday from 10:00 to about 17:00 and we will be firing up the BBQ at about 18:00 to feed the helpers. Monday afternoon to break it all down again from about 16:00 (we are normally away by 17:30). We will need a minimum of 20 Members for each of the show open days, Sunday and Monday. Activities range from manning specific stands, some handling cash for example the snack bar, manning the ever popular AutoJumble to meters and greeters to help Members and the public with any questions – we also need to publicise the Club from Hall 2 alongside NMS and and other sponsors and to help interact with members of the public. What’s in it for ME…? All volunteers will get Water, Tea & Coffee throughout your stint, T-Shirt, name badge, evening BBQ, free camping, and the love and respect of your fellow Members. 7 Passes & Wristbands All volunteers will be issued with a wristband at the gate which will entitle you to come and go as you see fit and camp for free in the WSCC camping area. If you do not have a wristband, you will be subject to the normal terms and conditions of the show e.g. payment on entry, chargeable camping in the public camping area, etc. Therefore it is vitally important that you record and confirm all the volunteer information requested. 8 Car Data Sheets If you are bringing your Westfield to the show we will be providing a Car Data Sheet for you to download, fill in and attach to your car. This will allow members of the public that are interested in the marquee to look over the cars and understand what they are seeing. 9 I Want To Help. What’s next…? Please have a good think about what you are committing to. There are two separate threads pinned in this section that pertain to volunteering for the interior and exterior stands. They are: · INTERIOR link · EXTERIOR link · CAMPING link Please do read them thoroughly, sign yourselves up and let us have all your information. 10 Some Important Points Reminder No freebies unless you have a wristband Full details required when volunteering your car and/or your time (they will be confirmed with you) Volunteers only for free camping. All display cars (Hall 2 and in the Marquee) should be free from overt advertising of non WSCC traders and Sponsors If you have a T-Shirt from last year, please bring it back washed even if you are not intending to use it If you have any banners or flags, please bring them back or arrange to have them sent Further info: stoneleigh@wscc.co.uk Thanks for reading and we hope to hear from you soon…7 points

Stoneleigh 2017 Camping Information Show Dates are: Sunday 30th April 2017 & Monday 1st May 2017 Set-Up Day is: Saturday 29th April 2017 This is an “INFORMATION ONLY” thread which will remain locked but we will be updating as necessary Important Information about Free WSCC Camping Our ability to offer free camping for volunteers has been impacted over the last couple of years by current, ex and non-Members using the area when they are specifically not providing the Club with their services over the show weekend. The arrangements we have with Stoneleigh and Grosvenor Events are on a first come first pitch basis and for WSCC Members and families who are supporting the Club by way of volunteering their time over the show weekend. This arrangement has been sanctioned by our hosts but it has come to their attention that not everyone on the WSCC pitch has a valid right to be there. In essence this erodes the cash takings for the show ground as it results in a drop in takings for chargeable camping and of course makes us look bad. Therefore, the Club needs to specifically remind you that: Camping is available to show volunteers only Being a Member does not automatically entitle you to camp for free on the WSCC campsite You will only be able to camp if you have a wristband and these will be checked Electricity hook-ups are available however, this costs money so please treat these with due respect for others usage and everyone’s safety Noise MUST be kept to a minimum There should be no noise on the Camp site after 11:00 PM Sorry, no dogs The Public Camping Area is to be used as overspill if needed (free of charge for volunteers) Members who are NOT volunteering their time should use the Public Camping Area The WSCC Camping Area will be signposted and roped off The WSCC Camping Area will monitored by WSCC and Stoneleigh Security Those who fail to produce a valid wristband or other authority to camp will be asked to relocate immediately, regardless of the time of day or weather conditions Those who decide to not comply with any of the above will also be asked to relocate immediately As daft as it sounds, we will be policing this. We don’t really want to, it really does sound daft but we do not want to bring the Club into disrepute or upset our hosts, our neighbours, or the Members and their families who provide the Club with their time. We hope you understand.6 points

PORK IN A BAP Similar to 2016 and it's appropriate to formally recognise the people who organise and run the show (give Tolf a break from the BBQ basically), our traditional post AGM meal will be again be a fully catered affair! Most will be familiar with the format and will probably have sampled some of the food in years past, as we are delighted to announce that the Farmers Fayre Hog Roast chaps from the show-ground are going to put on a Hog roast for us This will be outside the Marquee directly after the AGM. Of course you are welcome to bring your own food if you'd prefer another option and we can fire up the WSCC BBQ as required for the vegetarian and other options. You are also welcome to bring your own drinks but beer and soft drinks in limited quantities will be provided as usual. For clarity, this is open to invited guests, the organisers and the volunteers. It is not open to mates or non-club members unless by prior arrangement. In order to "qualify", you'll need to make yourselves known to the organising team and if poss, wear your volunteer Tee - Shirt/show your volunteer wrist band as this will help the caterers identify us and feed us So there you go, please make every effort to attend the AGM and come and join your fellow members for a Pork bap after5 points

Don’t be put off if your car isn’t the best example of the marque, we are aiming to show the production history of Westfield through the cars on display and good “used” examples are as valid as the out and out show stoppers and racers. There will more space in the marquee if that suits, of so please see the exterior thread. Now, before you drop us an email volunteering your car for Hall 2 please read the next bit carefully… ·Your car will need to be in position on the display by 5pm on Saturday and will normally not be able to be moved out of Hall 2 until (officially) 5pm on Monday. (We may have an opportunity to move cars about at close of show Sunday and before the show opens on Monday but the show organisers do not really like doing this – health and safety / security and all that) ·Hall 2 is locked down by 6pm on the Saturday and Sunday and Stoneleigh have their own security who patrol the halls out of hours so your car will be safe and secure at all times ·There is an expectation that you will provide lots of information about your car. The organising team would be happy to print and laminate this for you ·We would also need you or someone who knows your car to be available at various times throughout the show to answer questions As always we cannot make Stoneleigh the success it is without the help of you, the members. Once again we have decided to support the Air Ambulance at Stoneleigh. It's a national charity and one which a few us already support. All proceeds from the sale of paper Westfields, the Snack Bar and the charity raffle for rides on the drift experience will go to the charity. One of the feedback ideas from last year was to have the ability for Members and the general public make a donation. To that end I've been in touch with the charity and have got four collecting tins. One will be tied down to the snack bar, one on the membership stand and the others will be mobile as the need arises. Please note. We need to keep an eye on these for obvious reasons. Anyone not a recognised Member or suitably attired in WSCC T-shirts seen in possession should be challenged, get help if you need it and just ask. We will be around also, so it's no biggie, you will be supported. If you want to donate, please do so. If you want to donate more than will fit in the tin, please see me. If you want to donate personally, i.e. not as WSCC, please go to https://theairambulanceservice.org.uk/ Thanks3 points

I always find the odd cylinder number engines have a nice distinctive rumble to them. My old 5 pot focus st made a lovely noise. The modern 3 pots are fine. Even bmw are chucking them in the 3 series now. In fact I drove a mates 318 and never realised it was missing some cylinders until he told me. Will be interesting to see how they progress the fiesta as the current car/engine is a belter. Am gutted mine goes back in 3 weeks. A lightweight small 3 cylinder 200hp engine. Hmm sounds like a good donor engine too.....2 points

Yep, I hope I made it clear, I'm talking about a perception of turbos, coloured by the past, NOT the reality of modern turbos. For example, the very first turbo charged car I pax'd in was a seventies 911. Utterly thrilling and addictive, but also utterly terrifying, even as a pre-teen, with no fear of death! From then, it was a mix of Saab's, Renault 5's and the occasional Sierra Cosworth. All of which had a certain, wait for it, wait for it, wait for it, oh @#$€ ! Quality about them. But I have ridden in and/or driven some of the modern turbos too, like the Fiesta ST and various VAG Turbo variants and agree, they can be superb, and an utterly different kettle of fish. ...But, still, the buzz of sitting behind an engine hitting (intentionally) 8 or 9000 rpm, brings back memories of the highly tuned cars around in my youth and gives that "17 again" feeling.2 points
-
I think the ditch finding 80's statement and Dave's "engines we were brought up on" thoughts are right for most people out there. We don't build engines to get the maximum performance out of them, we build them for what we want instead. When you want high revving, great sounding, easy to package and well performing N/A, then the S2000 engine sits at the top of the league for performance out of the box, You can definitely see it being a classic engine.2 points

Back in the day when I was contracting up Scotland way and had money, I used to run a 20v Audi 90 Q with the 5 cylinder 2.3 with about 170 bhp. It sounded lovely, so if the 3 pot has the same sort of wobbly burble, it will be a fine thing. Got to laugh at sdh, the car isn't even released and he wants to butcher it for the engine (note to self, never take the new ST to Stoneleigh 2018, it might have to go home on a trailer)... But a compact, lightweight 200bhp engine, deserves thinking about...1 point

Hi Ben, I can't help with the switches, but for indicator control you might like to consider a BlinkStop http://www.blinkstop.co.uk/blinkstop.html For headlight/sidelight and mainbeam control you could use a BeamStop (same site)1 point

I do miss the warble from my 5 cyl ST . Was a fantastic car. As for running the 3 cyl engines in the Westies, then Caterham are already, albeit not a big hp one. Heading back to Chapmans roots with lightweight too. I am sure that the Formula Fords are now using them, so think it will be the future for our type of cars. Imagine it. 200 bhp, 6 gallon tank and 300 mile range1 point

Agree totally. I think the f20c is probably the perfect allround choice for this type of car. It even looks perfect in the engine bay of a westy. Just a shame they are not more abundantly available for reasonable money. They are only going to keep rising in value aswell.1 point
