Some people think track days are better value for money but IMHO they are not. Wear and tear on the car far outweighs any increase in track time benefit plus the travelling and accommodation and potential carnage to the car are just as expensive plus you don't have the opportunity to win or prove anything against fellow owners of the same marque5 points

I have a spare set of overalls, gloves and helmet that I can bring along to an event for any new starter to borrow, if it helps.3 points

If it is a true road going car then the important things are:- Taxed, insured and MOT Ignition switch OFF position labelled Timing beam splitter Battery negative lead marked with yellow tape Tyres that are on list 1A or 1B of the MSA blue book An MSA speed licence (national B) An MSA spec roll over bar MSA approved Race suit, helmet and gloves WSCC membership and entry to the speed series If you start using tyres that aren't on list 1A or 1B then it starts to get messy2 points

Is there a definitive list of stuff needed to compete, on day one, first race, with a road worthy road going Westfield? If so please point me. I'd love to have a go... It was my plan when I bought the car. Last year was supposed to be shakedown, this year use it in anger, but i'm still on shakedown and still have a long ish to do list, money and time are limiting factors. I'll never do a whole series but I'd like to do a few races each year. I've only ever competed in night road rallies, and that was over 10 years ago (pre-children). Below is a mini list of possible requirements off the top of my head. I have no idea if they are relevant or not? Battery cut off switch? With relevant stickers? best place to position? Timer beam cutter? Roll over protection MSA approved if fitted? or non? Tow points, and stickers? can the cage be used HANS? Seats, heights, fixing? Competition MSA approved helmet and dated? MSA approved belts and dated correclty? Road going tyres correctly marked as such Sound regs clearly (like track days) Insurance? Plastic screws to hold on front and rear? removable wheel arches. Speed series membership.2 points

Agree with the above, just chuck your name in and have a go, I did just one event in 2014 and that was it, fully hooked! It's a great sport and made even better by the comraderie of the WSCC competitors, got some brilliant mates from just 2 years of sprinting, so come on down!2 points

I can thoroughly recommend 'having a go' 'dipping your toe' etc etc You may love it or not, but I'd be very suprised if you regretted having a go! If you can do only one weekend, then you won't get a safer, more supportive event than our very own WSCC SS Blyton. Or pick a sprint nearest to you. Either way there's bound to be some of us to give plenty of support and advice.2 points

Well just to give you a bit of understanding on how I got to this I consider myself a bit of a petrol head, I studied mechanical engineering but have a reasonable understanding of most things I have completed 3 kits to date, first been a Robin Hood with Redtop engine using a manta gearbox on twin 45's, then had a bit of a break from Kits as I tried motorbikes for a bit but found out even though I have a love for bikes they were not for me, (I was too scared worrying all the time about would I get home in one piece) Then I returned buying my first Westfield which had a RS1.8 silvertop this soon was modified but the urge for more power saw that get removed and in went a ST170 with stage 3 head and a megasquirt ( I hear a few growns) ecu with a set of Hayabusa throttle bodies, the gearbox was changed to a straight cut and had a twin plate clutch (nightmare on road) this did not las long. After a good few years with this I was looking again for another project when I came across my current Westfield which had a poorly running engine due to the carb setup, this was ideal for me as I wanted to put an Ecoboost engine in, Ive always been of the opinion a Westfield should be a small engine and these modern engines are truly amazing. So lots of planning research saw me talking with a few members who were on similar paths, so a steep learning curve as there was almost no information out there on the net to help. so some of the decisions were trial and error, I had hoped to get it completed so I could take to Stoneleigh but that was not going to happen due to contracting a really bad cold (worst I have ever had) anyway this project was completed and I took it to the classic at Silverstone. I am still impressed with this car drives great so I intend to keep this. Where we live there are some great classic events so my thoughts went should I buy a classic I looked around and could not find anything which really took me there were some close calls E type, TR5 and 6 but then I saw a C type and fell in love with it everybody I talked too agreed on its beauty, so I was sold, next job was to get my wife to sign up to the project. Oh I could not afford a genuine so Kit manufactures were googled, then the decision should I have a GRP or aluminium body, well this became a no brainer I was not going to pay at least another 30k for an alloy body as lets face it this will always be looked at as a kit, plus the GRPbody is more durable to stone chips etc. So the decision was made Realm Engineering 3 visits to the factory oh this is a real culture shock if you are from the current day thinking of what factories are like, but as I've been around a bit longer it was like going back to my apprentice days. So before I commit to buying I need to find a series3 Jaguar but these are starting to get collector status so finding one a a good price is not easy, so bit of scouring all the usual places I found one that met my criteria (cheap) as it had been partially stripped, so prior to Christmas the deal was done and I would collect in the New Year. My next attention was to look for a gearbox for the kit, I need a W58 supra box I finally found on in Czech Republic a deal was done and it arrived safely in the new year, these are like Hens teeth so bit annoying that I just found another one 10miles from where I live at less money, oh well never mind. So last few weeks I have been slowly stripping the car Daimler XJ6 4.2 for the bits I need. So here is the doner, it looks much better than it is and a image of the future1 point

I had a pair of purple loons (very wide bottoms and very tight top). If I stood still they settled around my feet such that my shoes were totally hidden! They went with a purple floral pattern shirt with tie made from the same material and a black Regency style corduroy jacket. These days that ensemble would elicit wolf-whistles from brickies an hod carriers! Then, though, it was cooool...1 point

In 1976 I went shopping with a mate and bought a pair of "Oxford Bags" which for the youngsters on here were trousers that were in fashion. But these were 36" bottoms with a 9 button waistband in a light blue. I thought I looked cool but the reality was when walking through Doncaster in a slight wind catching sight of myself if a shop window with all this material flapping around my legs as I walked was a shame I a can never live down. I feel the shame just like it was yesterday. My mum made cushion covers out of them which made my shame last even longer as they were always there.1 point

Yes loading westie onto my 4 wheel minno is no problem when unhitched. Just remember to tighten the rear stays at the back of the trailer. Ask me how I know !1 point
