  1. Ooh, I love surprises, and as I pulled into the car park at The Wheatsheaf, there was Andrew stood with Martyn and Sue, he had sneaked in under the radar. It was a bit chilly but the sunshine was warming the day up nicely, so after a quick bacon butty we set off through a stunning looking Peak District. After weeks of misty drizzle it was like someone had cleaned the windows. The winter sun cast long shadows on the grit stone edges and set them off nicely. The Wheatsheaf As it was so picturesque we went to the reservoirs by the Surprise View route. A tyre kick and a photo shoot at the reservoirs before heading up the fabulous Snake Pass to the Snake Inn. Just let me recap that one, we went up the Snake Pass in our Westfield's, Snake Pass - Westfield. I think that road was built with driving a Westfield up it in mind. The roads were a bit drier and you could go just a little bit faster than of late. It sets you off and the conversation over lunch soon turned to us all needing a 'Westfield Experience' day, come on @Trevturtle, find us a day, we have itches to scratch. At the Reservoirs The watery bit, reflections on the reservoirs The only reason we keep stopping is to hear the V8 start up, but don't tell Andrew that! We had lunch at the Snake Inn and as part of our drinks Sue had some left over hot water. Better not waste it then, so this mad woman (Julie) goes running across the car park to get the hot water bottle and proceeded to fill it with the said water. If you watch these Westfield drivers for long enough you get to see just quite how mad they are! The Snake Inn Building up an appetite for the next bit (thank you Andrew for the photo) A good place to finish the day off was at Chatsworth, the house looking spectacular with the low winter sun bouncing light off the gold (real gold as well) mullions. Chatsworth Vines Restaurant - the white chocolate and raspberry cake was popular, unsurprisingly. Glen and I have booked our hotel with Andrew and Clare for the Silverstone Classic in July, so it was great to meet face to face and discuss the finer details of the trip, as we have not seen each other since sorting it all out. Andrew has the dates for the Horsepower at the Hall events this year, so I will get them posted up separately and we all agreed that we must go back to see the Lancaster Bomber 'Just Jane' at East Kirby sooner rather than later. The company has been great today, where would we with out Martyn and Sue,and hopefully Clare will be able to come next time. The driving has been a bit more exciting, now the roads are drying up, and the Peak District scenery has been at it's very best, thank you all for a super dooper day out.

  3. Hi all, just bought a 89 narrow bodied low line without a engine and box. The car was professionally built but has hardly covered any miles. First job is to pick up a crossflow engine and gearbox then find a twin weber inlet manifold then it should be on the road just waiting for the cosmetics then. Many years ago I used to build kit cars for a living and my ex busines partner used to work for Westfield years ago so his ears are going to get bent a lot.

  4. This sort of fits in the "Start Line" area of the forum. I won't go into details, but after a frustrating 2 weeks I have decided selling cars/registration numbers is not my forte and I shall be keeping my car and plundering other funding options for a business, I was never 100% certain about selling it so I'm happy with that and it will reside at "yanto towers" for a good while longer, not that I was going to let my membership of the club lapse as i know that within a couple of years I would have drifted back into Westfield ownership. Now, my car is track orientated, my partner has finally decided that she would go out in it occasionally if it had a proper windscreen and side screens, oh and a dry sump oil tank that doesn't broil her feet, this car could well turn into a track spec touring/cruising car. Now, to the hunt for a windscreen; new or used, that is the question? Ian

  5. Hi Bennett, in honesty no one has been to see it yet as I have been away working, I'm back next weekend but I expect a deal to be done by then. Its on piston heads now but i am in no rush to sell it to be honest. I'd like it to go to a sprinting home as it is supremely well set up and the engine.box combo is incredible.

  6. Wise words Gadgetman... just what i would expect and enjoy from you mate. I'm fine to be honest (at the moment) but my mind is not 100% "on it" for high speed events. I wont be a stranger and will be making many more memories over the coming (many) years I hope...

  8. Butterflies should be set slightly open, (no air engine no start) the air correction screw is for balancing only. On full throttle the butterflies should be fully inline and not under or over rotating. Read Jenvey instructions if in doubt.

  9. They are spending the lot by moving out to Cyprus 8 years ago and semi retiring. And quite right too. They asked for my blessing to sell the family home before going too as they saw it as my inheritance. I told them to blow the lot if it made them happy. My dad was just starting to encounter serious health issues from working 70-80 hour weeks for 40 years. I firmly believe if they didn't sell up and go that he wouldn't still be with us. And I still can't get an ipad off him!

  10. Totally agree David having said that we weren't allowed to cut corners building the GTD40 many years ago but they were 160 mph expansive kits. Great chatting about old school cars.

  11. A crap hand to be dealt, especially after previous health scares. You've just got to focus on what's important to you and your family, and pack as much in while you can. As you say, management is better now than in the old days, but sadly there's no magic bullet. Strangely though, I know people for whom that knowledge has actually been a help; no time wasted chasing false promises of magic remedies that didn't exist, just an oportunity to spend time building memories and doing the things we always promise ourselves we'd get round to.

  12. PS, great to catch up at the Cheshire meet, also great to see another owner with (professional) old school Ford/carb experience on the Boardroom.

  13. I was surprised that I got caught from the rear (ooer missus). I'm hoping it's more than 3 years since the last incident and can have a £60 speed awareness course as my special prize!

  15. Well done Ian. Would be sad to see you go. I guess budget dictates what to buy, but second hand with a mint car is always something you may not be happy with on buying, unless the items are mint and a decent price compared to new.......if that makes sense !!

  16. Yes, I had the same issue - I'd had my Westie for over 10 years before she ever sat in it. We now go out for regular trips (in summer of course) - hope these will extend in distance and duration as I have a half hood ready to fit. Side screens brilliant as are half doors (the thought of a rather large and rather hot exhaust a few inches from her left elbow was also rather off-putting apparently ) I picked up my screen and wiper stuff on here - it was even quite local but they don't come up very often and I had to settle for an alloy finished one but have since painted in satin black and it looks ok if not toooooo closely inspected Haven't bothered with any form of heater / demister but looking into a small heater to take the chill off her feet

  17. Hi Ian Good to hear you are keeping the car. I suspect the dry sump tank is not needed in your car now. You could have it converted back to wet sump easily and sell the dry sump to a tvr racer. They are 000s to buy new. I know the car had a wet sump originally. My car with a rover engine did many track days with a wet trapdoor sump and semi slicks without problems. I know this from experience of blowing my first engine on a track day with a normal sump do I do drive it quite keenly. Good luck jon

  18. Had a great day today took the dash out to find the wiring is a mess (or i'm fussy) so ordered 2 looms from catering. Then as I was sat in the drivers seat and the dash wasn't in I thought I would lift the column up a bit. Not a chance so it's time to start grinding off the weld to make it right or just get another column. Oh the joys of buying a pro built cat thanks Mr Nightingale no wonder you sold the company off.
