  2. I have had a funny couple of weeks climaxing yesterday with having to save a work colleague from going into a diabetic coma.... I'm not his carer, but he has no one since his wife died 6 months ago apart from the team at Manchester IT and he's been with me for 15 years; so we have a key for his house. Anyway he didn't turn in to work yesterday so I organised myself and a team to go round; unfortunately he had left his key in the back of the door so mine was useless. The police used the big red key that opens all doors... we got in (police, ambulance and MIT) and he was unconicosus in the bed, they brought him around and tallied my life saving count to 4 The point of this is not to say well done Panda but to let you know the police said you can have a key safe on the wall/outside and ring 101 with the code and they can use then they can use the keys to get access in they need. Cheers Panda

  3. People on phones is cars are just plain selfish. Most phone conversations , which happen in cars , are just not urgent. I went to a party in October and a lady was there with her young children. My wife said that her husband was killed a few months back in Basingstoke , as the van driver mowed him down, while riding his road bike. The driver was allegedly talking about walking his dog or something. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-37283994 My neighbour is a womble and had to face the scene last summer with the A34 massacre. It still haunts him now. He still wants to talk to me about it. Hardest thing he said was seeing a childs hand limp in the back of the car. A scene that most people have seen what was left of the families car. 10 years isnt enough for what the lorry driver did. Albeit , I have seen a Sainsburys articulated lorry , with the driver pouring a hot kettle , while doing 50 mph round a corner, so all of these things ought to be banned. Sadly I didnt get his reg number , as I looked to see if I could complaint to Sainsburys as they must track their vehicles , but couldnt find where on their website. On Xmas eve, I took the kids to see Star Wars . We were early for the screen showing, so we waited in the lounge area, which is on the first floor looking out over the main road in Newbury. In 10 mins, I saw at least a dozen people fiddling with phones, texting and not really dealing with driving. M4 one morning, outside lane, woman in front doing her eye make up at 70 mph. M4 same area, breakfast bowl in a womans steering wheel , with cereal in it....... To cure all this selfish and dangerous acts is going to need more than 6 points and a bigger fine, which is being introduced soon.

  5. Not been to the Pool Cafe recently, glad it's still serving up great breakfasts. Always was a good start to a day climbing on the 'edges'.

  6. The standard zetec 1.8 flywheel is both cheep and fairly available. I did a find-a-part and paid about £30... It's a lot lighter than the 2.0. Unless I've thrown it away I have a standard 2.0 zetec one which looked much thinner than the one you have.. I'll check in the morning your welcome to it for free if I still have it.

  8. It always fascinates me and intrigues me how badly holding a conversation on the 'phone does in "tests". The very format/protocol of the test themselves, when you see one either filmed or documented, seems set up to give a high number of fails and to portray phone use in the worst light possible. Just to be clear here, I'm talking about strictly hands free use, and solely the conversation part of a phone call, not dialling etc. The way the test is conducted just does not match the way I use the phone, or the way anyone I've been a passenger with, uses the phone. But I admit thats way to small a group to draw much conclusion from!! Essentially, if I'm on the phone while driving, I let the other person know right at the start, so that they know I'm not concentrating on the phone conversation, and I will immediately stop speaking and focus solely on the road, if necessary, to maneuver, deal with more traffic, navigate etc. I'll then just apologise to the caller and tell them I missed that bit, can they repeat it. If they have any key information for me, that it's vital I have, I'll ask them to just fire me over a text or email I can read once I've stopped driving. But at no time do I let the phone conversation hog more concentration than the road. Whereas, practically every test that I've seen seems to use some combination of cognitive tests such as repeating back information in a specific way, or mental arithmetic etc and the test subjects seem to be completely prevented from switching focus back to driving at any time. Surely it can't just be me that thinks this is very unrealistic?

  9. I've got a spare set of runners, if you want them for one seat only, but they are for a Westfield XI, so I don't know if they will be the same dimensions.

  10. Nick started a topic last year to post thing like this where we are invited to an event but does not count in our championship. I think we should do the same in 2017 with clear guidance as to what is being posted there so is not confused with championship rounds. Paul

  11. Wheres 'here'? Was 2 degrees when I left the house this morning to meet up with the peak district crew, was 0 degrees by the time I met them, then out for a quick run before breakfast, where it snowed. Luckily, i had the heated seat on full, the climate control on 25 degrees and "Desert Island Discs" on R4 Extra. If anything, i was too comfortable.

  12. Ok - here is the technical 'building' solution from a building surveyor (me!). Insulate under the roof and/or the walls. On the inside face of the insulation there needs to be a moisture proof membrane - this is sometimes built in to insulation boards (or they are inherently waterproof). The 'dew point' is where the temperature is at the point where airborne moisture with condensate. By insulating alone, this may be within the insulation layer so to stop this moisture condensating, you need to stop it getting there hence the membrane. On the brick outer walls, insulated plasterboard (foil lined to act as a membrane) can be stuck on the walls with plasterboard adhesive. Celotex is moisture resistant so ok for underside of roof. Gaps need to be avoided and joints between Celotex boards should be taped over with moisture proof tape supplied by Celotex (not electrical insulation tape or gaffer tape!). Ventilate the space (with cross ventilation if possible). Heat would not be so necessary except for the comfort of the car, and a dehumidifier redundant unless the car is wet! Good luck. Andrew
