I've been a bit quiet on here since the MSA ROPS change a few years ago Ive been trying to decide what to do next and enjoying the car on the road Its been great and I've enjoyed every second of it especially the speed series, that's why I bought a Westfield But the need to build my own from start has taken over rational thinking and I've sold up Some who know me better will already know it's not a Westfield The new owner has promised to join your ranks and I might just hang around to keep an eye on you all Its been great Andy3 points

Hi All, Im very new to Westfield ownership having just bought my first one last week. I will probably have loads of questions as I find my way around my new toy. I've been riding motorcycles for the last 37 years and still have a few in the garage. I've been looking for a Westfield for a while now and saw this one last November. I happened to be passing where it was a couple of weeks ago and dropped in to have a look at it... it was love at first sight! We did a deal and the guy even delivered it from Rhyl to Ripon for me. She's now tucked up nicely in my garage as I decide where to start improving bits and bobs - nothing too serious as she's just about right.1 point

This car was built with love and care by my Dad and myself in 1992 as a joint project. It has been built to a very high specification (my Dad is a man who has just built a narrow guage railway engine - from scratch!), with the original kit from Westfield. Date of Registration 20 / 09 / 1993 Colour: Blue Very low mileage for age, sadly, has only been used as a occasional Sunday drive ( family curtailed my use and my Dad's interest is in the building not the driving). Mileage 6182 (687 on new clock - from 2003) / 5495 on previous clock MOT 18/6/03 5495 miles / MOT 19/6/04 84 miles / MOT 16/7/16 687 miles Cylinder capacity: 1998 CC Twin Cam Vauxhall Engine (Red Top) Type of Fuel: Petrol Swindon Racing Engine and High Lift Cams Westfield Close Ratio Pro-Gear Box Programmable ECU and Fuel Injection Rebuilt 1994 - New nose cone / Chassis 6 / 2012 - Sytec Competition Fuel Injection Pump (12mm in / 8 mm out) fitted 2015 - New Air Filter 2016 - New Battery It has been off road and garaged for periods 12 / 2013 - 1 year 9 / 07 - 5 Years 9/05 1 - Year It's a shame car has never shown it's true potential with the type of use, would be great for track and hillclimb. Price £7,500 Please get in touch if you are interested or require any further information; abigailtilling@hotmail.co.uk 07906 3091221 point

A video clip of the contrasts for me, I was crying with laughter at Johnny Spanners, but then cried tears of despair when "woman on the street" says, "we shouldnt let in any immigrants because of jobs and er the NHS"1 point

I've got a pair as well which have been made to allow the fitment of sennheiser in ear headphones so when I'm on a long journey I can plug them into my phone and hear the satnav and speed camera alerts. And when I want just ear protection I can simply pull the earphones out1 point

Template arrived and copied on to cardboard, massive thumbs up I have scanned them to PDF, but they were slightly to long for my A3 scanner. PM me if you would like copies1 point

In the regs there is a list of events that are championship rounds along with the organising clubs. Make a note of which ones you want to enter and keep an eye on that club's website for the event entry forms and regulations. You may also receive emails with them as your email address will be forwarded to the organising clubs in advance. Also keep an eye out on here and post up asking if anyone has seen regs yet for the events you want to do. Stickers usually get sent out in advance but sometimes are a little last minute so don't worry too much. Theres usually someone at each event who has a stash of them if you don't get them via the post in time1 point

I know regs aren't final but what happens now I have registered regards series information stickers for car and guidance for attending different events. Sorry all a bit new to this1 point

The rocker cover is a Teme valley race design one. The engine is a 1840 crossflow running a dry sump with twin 45's. it was built by Graham Hickman who used to be Teme Valley. The car was built by a friend of his, Alex Konarzewski who sadly died in 2012. It was a labour of love and it shows. All I intend to do to it is sort out the things that have aged, like the chromework and a few other bits and bobs. Ive spoken to Graham and hopefully he is going to send me the full spec of the engine etc. So I will know more then..1 point

That's how I did mine as well - found a suitable compression type spring in my bits box - put a washer under the end where it pushes against the fork just in case the tang of the spring caught in the cable hole and chafed the cable (iyswim). As for grease I used some of this http://www.carlube.co.uk/greases/carlube-lm2-multi-purpose-grease Loads on eBay in small tubes - I wouldn't put much on as it will get fairly hot in there (especially with your spirited driving ) - the release bearing shouldn't really ever touch the shaft if it's centrally located - quite often any "screech" is coming from the flywheel spigot bearing (difficult to check without dismantling the clutch) it should be a roller type and pre-greased - the old ones used to be solid bronze. Smearing some grease on the end of the gearbox shaft will usually suffice though.1 point

I put a weak coil spring over the end of the clutch cable, between the bellhousing and the front face of the fork. It helps to make sure the release bearing is lifted clear of the plate once you release the pedal. It's a tad fiddly to assemble but once together works well. Whole thing still rattles like a b******d at idle though1 point

OK... This might be the quickest U-turn in forum history but... I had fell out of love with the Westie experience because it was all getting hard work. And I was still needing to sort the gear box, sort the choppy ride etc. All of those jobs were frankly beyond me seeing how changing 4 wheels takes all day and a long lie down afterwards. That's why I started to investigate other fun options that were hassle free. But having done some reading I would be looking at dropping at least £5k to £10k over and above the two cars (Westie and ST) plus some potentially high ownership costs. Having spoken to Grizlee at length (when we should have been working) I reckon if I called BTEC (30 mins away) and said "come collect it on a trailer, do the gear box, shocks and get it through the MoT and charge me what you like" I would still have change from £2k So yes I would be dodging the mechanical aspects of Westie ownership, but if I wanted to play with spanners I will go buy some Meccano. I just want to drive the damn thing. And the thought process continues (and I'm prepared to be corrected) in that the total yearly Porker owner ship costs for stuff like fuel, tires, insurance etc would totally pay for somebody else to do the spannering. And for all of Clarkson's comments that "you're not a petrol head till you've owned an Alfa"... Sorry but a Westie / Caterham sort of car make you WAY more of a petrol head than an Alfa. Plus if you have a Xflow, you literally are a petrol head cos it spits the stuff at you. So.. thoughts..?1 point

My first "car" Austin A35 Van in British Racing Green , £15 from Scarth Hill motor auctions Ormskirk , came with a health hazard warning. No idea what speed it did as the speedo needle just bounced from one end to the other of the gauge , no brakes worth speaking of , 4 bald tyres ( early kind of slicks ) , holes in floorpan for cooling , i think one wiper blade sort of worked occasionally , great fun to drive . Brother PB2 had an earlier A30/7 we used to race each other regularly and crash a lot1 point

Sensible, I have been called many things but I can never, ever remember being called sensible, I must ring my parents immediately and announce it. That means you have one week to get the car sorted, Ian, go and give OMEX a poke.1 point
