May I take this opportunity to wish you all a very merry Christmas! I hope Santa has brought you many nice things as I'm sure you've all been good boys and girls (or as good as you're capable of being!). Just getting ready for the onslaught of guests we have coming to fill the house, and to give our tummies and livers a workout! Whatever you do today and however you do it, enjoy the day and thanks for being a part of our huge extended dysfunctional family!4 points

Good morning Guys and Gals, There has been much talk over the past two or three years in relation to the number of people competing in Motorsport, and that includes our prestigious Speed Series Championship. There are many reasons for this including financial crashes, MSA rule changes and dare I say it our own successes. We now have a record number of events to choose from, and clearly we cannot attend them all! My intention in helping run the Speed Series Facebook page is to capture the moment of SS, add the fun factor back in and generally promote what we do and why we love it. The more people that can see this the better chance we have of promoting new competitors, spectators and who knows maybe even future Champions! So who am I? For those who don't know, I'm Richard Kerr (Scottish Bloke) and have been around the club and Westfield's for around 15 years. My passion for the sunburst started a little before this and due to a change in circumstances I was able to buy my first Westfield in 2003. Having joined our local club and meeting Nick (Algar) the rest is history. I started competing in the Speed Series the following year in a very tidy red narrow body car. Within several events I managed to win the class I was in and graduated to a more powerful car, very long and expensive story short, the Speed Series Bug had bitten. (I blame Nick) I have been lucky enough to compete at a reasonable level every year since and still regard my Championship win in 2009 as one of my finest life achievements and something I'm incredibly proud of. Speed Series has been a huge part of my life and is somewhere I have met the majority of the people I call my closest friends. I personally feel that promotion via Facebook will help greatly in promoting our series to a much wider audience. It'll be a place where you can post pics and videos from events 'as they happen' straight from your phone. Whilst we can do some of these things on the boardroom, we are only alerting SS competitors or boardroom members and the 'instant hit' capturing the moment isn't possible. The SS FB page will be monitored and administrated by myself and other boardroom officials, who are all very keen to keep the page SS focused and in no way should detract from boardroom activity. Posts that are not relevant will be removed. Boardroom will remain the place for rules, MSA changes, Results, Tel's Tales, target times or raise Technical Queries, this must be done through the correct channels on the boardroom as is done currently. Over the next few days you may receive an invite from me to join the page, or by all means add yourself. Please remember, this is a Speed Series page, photos of your Christmas dinner, your dog stuck in the chimney after chasing Santa, or granny's teeth in the custard jug may be tolerated but Speed Series Chat fun and banter in the main please. Please drop me a PM with any ideas you have to include on the page, I'll probably start things off with a Driver/car bio and take things from there building the page and the audience. It's good to know you're on the scene again Geoffrey. You have been missed! We'll meet up again when you're back in The Highlands in '17. Sorry to hear you've had a rough time lately. Cheers, David1 point

Ballcock in the water tank here last year - wifey spotted water dripping thru' into the airing cupboard as it was over filling, mad dash to the local plumb shop as he was cashing up on Christmas Eve - Gave the bloke a Christmas drink and he sold me one - was a git to replace, 25yr old unions seized etc but between the plumb shop and me we saved Christmas and a hefty call out fee ... We have one of those walking headlamp thingies in the kitchen - got me out of trouble a few times, especially as the wife is determined to keep all spare bulbs in the shed ..1 point

Retired early at 59, and used the skills the company didn't want to go freelance. Ended up with a years work back at my previous employer at twice the salary, then a couple of contracts at a substantial premium to emplyed rate. Found that the cost of marketing / schmoozing potential clients to be high and then they wanted to make their lack of planning my emergency, so found i could cope on pension and shut down company. Much rejoicing at home.1 point

Working for a consultancy on a project by project basis sounds good to me. It all depends on the strength of your contacts.1 point
