  2. I've got the TVR Chimaera, I changed from the westie to the tvr for this very reason, when the wife is in the car keep under 3000 revs, nice sedate car but you still get the rumble out of the exhausts, wife out of the car, up over 3000 revs it's absolutely mental and sounds like a howling banshee, it's the sort of car that should keep everyone happy and isn't that common on the roads Cheers Mark

  3. Everyone's situation and requirements are different. I've retired early 5 years ago and my wife also stopped working 18 months ago. We do a lot of stuff together, but the Westfield isn't one of them. I love to go out for a drive whenever the weather permits or whenever our other social / family commitments allow. A couple of points make this a fairly easy win/win situation. 1. Once you give up work, you can drive whenever the sun is out, you're not limited to weekends. In fact it's my firm policy nowerdays never to take the Westfield out at weekends (unless I'm really stir-crazy) as the roads are so much busier 2. I get out of bed early. In the summer months I get up, drive for 4 hours/ 200 miles and get back home, wash the car and be "all done" by 10am. On many an occassion I've had a fantastic early-morning blast and then gone out for a nice lunch with the wife in our tin-top. It does just take a little bit of planning: but works for us. Your first line of your post stated that "you love it". Well, keep it.

  7. Thanks Adam. The value of the engine, gearbox and Geartonics equipment is about equivalent of what I am asking for the car. So somebody will get a rolling car with V5, Nitron suspension, 4.1 LSD diff, Carbon Tillett seat, Caged cage, Image alloys, nearly new Avon ZZRs plus a lot more for nearly nowt! Oh and an engine and car that has been set up by Northampton Motorsports and a gearbox/geartonics that has been set up by Elite. I'm beginning to wonder why I am selling (too many Formula Ford toys in the garage)!

  10. Yeah, it also sounds way to sensible... I'm known for starting to work in the garage in my 'normal' clothes just to that 'little job'... You should be able to hear my wife complaining after I come back indoors 4 hours later covered in grease

  14. Ian Knowing this car well you will struggle to make it wife friendly Acceptthis ,enjoy the car on your own. Then buy something you can both enjoy together Remember you can never have too many cars :-) Otherwise sell it to me !

  15. The cement soaks the oil up and you just brush it up. Works remarkably well and often leaves little trace! Had my engine and box out too many times and alway spill something out of where prop fits.

  17. We found Bertie and some tractors Afterwards we headed off to Ca**ington Water, just in case you forgot what my preciousness looks like now it's time to count the layers of clothing, that's a merino wool under layer, a jumper, a coat and a windproof coat, huff, who needs the heating on, did I mention the arm warmers? There was plenty of room on that bench and in that car park, just saying. We had coffee in the sunshine with views over the water before heading off for some tea. Big Andy will be glad to know Glen finally found his steak and it wasn't ham That just left a drive home in the dark. One problem - the glasses, I only had sun glasses or the yellow lensed glasses. One was too dark and the others accenuated headlights and street lights. I opted for the latter, squinted and promised myself I will put some glasses in the car with clear lenses Hopefully someone will come next time and fill the car park and bench up, missed you everyone!!!

  18. Low cloud and drizzle greeted us this morning, so we changed back to the original plan and headed south for the sunshine, what a good idea that turned out to be. We turned up at the Klondyke Steam Party, found the chairman and set to displaying a 13 year old Westfield in with the oldies, so you see Russ, Glen wasn't too young after all! The red car to my right is a Triumph Monte Carlo 1934, the car on the far right is a 5 litre, 4 cylinder 1913 Chalmers Model 17, a forerunner to the Chrysler and there are now only 3 in the UK. Here is a photo of that 5 litre engine. Now we need to go back to the beginning of time and to the start of the internal combustion engine, you will find yourself a Crossley engine, Manchester. I had better show you the stars of the party, the steam engines, from mammoth monsters like this one to cuties like this carting the kids about then it was my turn to feel old, I went to the Monsters of Rock, Castle Donington in the 1980's, in the back of a yellow Austin Allegro and I don't think I have seen one since, until today.

  19. According to the GBS website they are holding a 'cup of tea and mince pies' event on Saturday 10th December, starting at 10 am. I will do a separate post for this but it will be the usual - meet at McD's 9.30.
