It was the first Westfield built even before the name was finalised. And before the company started. Number 2 was built for My old mate Paul Matty...but that was many many years ago. 19822 points

Appreciate the effort David, James and Gary made to come to RDFS. Was a bit of a let down with our " club pitch" but as the very heavy rain the previous night made access to the main car club area very difficult to the extent a tractor was being used to pull cars etc in. Anyway we set up in a good spot in the main car park and the sun came out. Ended up a great day and thanks to Alastair for the use of his Gazebo.......next year your Westfield WILL be there. As said met some new Westie owners who joined us. Cheers to all who attended.2 points

Blimey, they've upped the cost to £85 but who cares for a such a great trackday! I'm booking in for the Saturday 17 September. Here y'go. Anyone else coming along?? There were three or four Westys when we went in May. Rides are offered for RAF staff who provide their services for nowt. Best sight of all was a young lass from the food n' drink trailer who went out in a megablade jobbie and was unable to contain herself for about half an hour after!1 point

This was the first time I have attended a WSCC event and was pleased to have had the opportunity to meet up with and exchange experiences with like minded people. Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome and for making my day so enjoyable. Hopefully I will be able to join you all again but next time in my Westfield! Special thanks to Campbell for co-ordinating the event locally.1 point

My wife said to me yesterday - "so are you ever going to do anything with those two bikes in the garage?" - and this thread is where I found my inspiration to say "yes dear" with sincerity I'll dig out a pic of the other one Mike...1 point

As a fellow Colchestrian my recommendation for blatting is to head North into Suffolk for the better roads or further still just over the boarder into Norfolk for the quietest roads. There's some lovely drives up through the forest just north of Thetford and the A11. More locally I can recommend heading out towards Halstead and either then onto Finchingfield or alternatively I have a favourite loop starting at Halstead High Street. From the roundabout near the top of Halstead high street take the A1124 to Gosfield; you'll appreciate the rare Essex hills and the flowing corners. Once you reach the end of the road turn right onto the A1017 and follow this main road and traffic up through Sibble Hedingham. Turn right onto Station Road for Castle Hedingham and go through Castle Hedingham to enjoy the historic high street. From here continue onto the Sudbury Road enjoy a few miles of countryside before the road ends and joins with the A131 at Bulmer Tye. One of my favourite roads1 point

SeiGHT's aren't that bad to drive. You can make them do all sorts of frightening things if you want to or just poodle in 5th with a nice soundtrack.1 point

Crashed at Kennel. Rear appeared to clip the recticel and that then pivoted the front which dug heavily into the banking. Mr Mann walked away unharmed1 point

I recall reading a Shelby Cobra road tested in an old edition of Road& Track mag doing 0 -100 - 0 mph circa 14 secs which I thought was absolutely amazing at the time . These days its unusual to see any start - stop figures quoted, often wonder how things have moved on with tech advancements since the 60's http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/1965-shelby-cobra-427-road-test1 point

Yep - I am always tempted to use that example when people comment about the price of a new Westfield!1 point

Believe it or not, you can still buy a new Peel P50 which has a top speed of 30mph, and will set you back a mere £10,399 + VAT.1 point

Funny how progress has brought those down. Once upon a time, in my own motoring lifespan, sub ten seconds was quick. A lot of desirable "fast" machinery in the day ran in the 8.xx's, with a few rocket ships in the 7.xx's and then a handful of super cars in the 5's or thereabouts. And back in the 70/80's you had the extra category of "nippy", as in a nippy little hatch etc, and that would manage it in 11 or 12s or even the low teens!! One question, (thread drift, I know ) but vaguely connected! Are there any cars in production now, that simply can't make 60mph?1 point
-
I can name five "fast" cars off the top of my head: BMW M550d xDrive 0-60 in 4.7 seconds Audi A8 4.2 TDI quattro: 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds BMW 335d xDrive: 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds Audi SQ5 TDI Competition: 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds BMW 740d xDrive: 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds Oh look...they're all diesels! And all very sporty. too!1 point

Well - we're back from the trip, and what a great week it was! 1,443 miles in total over the week, and some great roads, views and experiences along the way. Here's some pictures: Setting off from London: Stayed the first night at a hotel in Glasgow - nice city and we enjoyed a great steak too! They had some sort of bagpipe festival on at the time, lots of them being played time on Buchanan Street. Day 2 saw us head towards Glencoe. On the way we passed JimM in his Tiger too: We stopped on the way at Arrochar and climbed the 900m Ben Arthur a.k.a The Cobbler: Then drove to the place where some of James Bond's Skyfall was filmed to recreate the image: Theirs: And ours: The roads started to get smooth and quiet by this stage of the journey too: After a night in Glencoe, we moved on to the Isle of Skye: 2 nights on the island at a lovely B&B called Greenwood barn: We managed to sqeeze in a visit to Talisker... ...and the highlight of the trip, a flight in a seaplane! Then it was time to take a quick drive to the top of the Island, to climb the Old Man of Storr, and also see the Quirang: We then hopped over to Aviemore in the Cairngorns, via Inverness, to see the Reindeer that live on he hills over there: Plus some time on the beach and in the lake (it was 25c after all) Edinburgh was out penultimate stop, a buzzing city as the Fringe festival was on. We saw 2 acts, a small comedy gig, and an incredible group called 360 Allstars. Amazing to see a bridge next to the Forth Rd bridge under construction too: http://i1036.photobucket.com/albums/a441/robj1987/Mobile%20Uploads/D2BEEC42-9506-453C-8821-501ADE50B693_zpsy48ureyq.jpg http://i1036.photobucket.com/albums/a441/robj1987/Mobile%20Uploads/A97D6DDB-DA97-47D7-A531-BAC60C03382E_zpsjzx589j4.jpg Newcastle was the final stop: http://i1036.photobucket.com/albums/a441/robj1987/Mobile%20Uploads/68294A08-BA73-4872-A90A-1756201A5698_zps6men1ahh.jpg http://i1036.photobucket.com/albums/a441/robj1987/Mobile%20Uploads/05CA6106-CA96-44B2-9771-05AACCABF3CD_zpseydgj02z.jpg And finally back home..... 1,443 miles later!! http://i1036.photobucket.com/albums/a441/robj1987/Mobile%20Uploads/55F66673-B6B4-417C-923D-533701A62C44_zpsvggqt9zi.jpg Lessons learnt: The LOMO bag was great - 60L was the perfect size The roads on Skye are amazing We got lucky in that it didn't rain on us all week A 5L fuel can did come in useful, twice when we were close to running out of fuel A higher ride height would have been useful for some of the fast, undulating Skye roads (even after stiffening up the suspension) Finally, thanks to everyone for all the advice at the start of the trip, and all who helped with the advice on the cycle wing (I need to source (ideally) one new one and the old one is cracked - 217mm wide by c.750mm long- any ideas where I can get one from? See the picture of it on the car at the start of the thread) Thanks!!! Rob and Lucia1 point
