But having just thrown out the front sheet from the last club magazine, I noticed that apparently I live at "Sporty Diesel House". Thank you Mr Chairman, nice to see the bananas are still in charge of the Republic..! Haven't you lot revolted, risen up and over thrown him yet..?4 points

Yes, admittedly, one of the BEC's didn't like sitting at anything over a constant 70 on the Autobahns when we were more comfy at 85-90 (aeroscreen & helmet of course) But on the Alpine twisties, they were happy - full stop!2 points

Two and a half months later...! That penny dropped one hell of a long distance before it hit the floor, didn't it? Sadly, I just sent the magazine mailing list out today, so too late to change it, you'll get another issue at Sporty Diesel House. No charge - enjoy! I'm not known as "The Prince of Darkness" backstage for no reason, as my fellow committee members past and present will attest.1 point

Too many years of wide open tb's sticking through the bonnet, 3" bore exhaust, straight cut box and an aero screen, with only a crash helmet for protection has f***** my hearing I'm afraid, even the latter years of aero screening with ear plugs under the helmet were too little to late. Having had particularly good hearing, high frequencies in particular, I now have an almost identical hearing profile to an (equally careless) biker, som my optician (- he also does the hearing tests locally for various nhs departments), tells me. The annoying/embarrassing thing is, I remember Blatters giving me, and others, exactly the same advice above, back when it could have made the difference. Ah well, live and learn.1 point

Wind noise a whole other thread! I have always said that there is no substitute for decent earplugs. I have a set of custom molded jobs that I have use in the Westfield and every day on the bike for my daily commute. I would not be without them.1 point

And that's the key really, buying a camper van is a heart decision, selecting one, a head decision!1 point

Yes I ignored depreciation because I never buy anything with en eye on what it might be worth when I am done with it so my numbers were wrong and favoured the buy a camper option. Never felt we missed out on the banter TBH. All the SS folks are top boys and girls and we would rock up and join in as you would expect. Staying at an off-site does mean leaving at some point. For me that was the non-monetary price of staying at a nice gaff. The plus was that Blatgirl was with me (actually competing and annoyingly winning more pots than me, but that's another story...). And all the previous points notwithstanding it seems to me like buying a camper is something you really want to do and that is probably the most important consideration of all. Logic often takes a back seat to desire and lets be fair, we have Westfields for toys so we're pretty good at ignoring the logic of a situation when desire kicks in Get the camper and get out there1 point

Sorry Mike you'll have to wait (hopefully) a long time as that one stays with me until the end. Built it many years ago in my 20's and will never ever sell it. So ask my kids when I'm gone Really must rebuild it though, as it deserves to be running again. Currently has the head off and is a bit dusty!1 point

Always go Portsmouth these days - partly because of our usual intended destination but also due to the potential delays at Dover/Calais There is something rather nice about sailing out of Portsmouth on the 8.45 ish boat - looking at the naval base and city as you leave - sitting down for a very nice meal in the posh restaurant, some cheesy entertainment and a few beers followed by a good nights sleep in a cabin - roll off the boat at 8.00 ish in either Caen or St Malo after a relaxed breakfast Very little queuing and all very civilised I justify the extra cost by including it as part of the holiday experience Clearly the wrong side for Spa or Germany but I would definitely go from Portsmouth if I was going to LeMan1 point
