  1. I have never been a "people" person and always been a loner all my life.... that sounds sad I know. Since joining this club, I have never been involved with so many great people and if I knew how much this club was going to change my lifestyle and "me" then I would gladly pay a lot more. This club is worth every penny and I am not interested in any of the technical stuff at all to be honest. I still enjoy reading it though, just wish I understood it.

  2. As one who has posted nearly 12000 times I have tried to help others and given advice for free....Thats the spirit of this club!

  3. Roger, I'll be friendly but as brief as possible here - the short answer is no, and the long answer is nooooooooooooooo... I'm sorry and sad you don't like the magazines and the calendars. Many people in the club work very hard to produce these, and reading you just throw them straight in the bin is depressing. However, if you don't like what's in it, the best way to make it better is for you to submit material you find valuable for the rest of us who read the magazine to enjoy. Everything in the magazine and calendar is submitted by the members. To be blunt, and leaving aside the mags and the calendars, £27.50 per year to have these deep forums (which are not cheap to run and maintain, BTW - I've just authorised nearly £1,000 for a shiny, powerful new server to come online in the next few months to ensure the forums are stable, available 99.99% of the time and has room to expand), events like Stoneleigh, the Silverstone Classic, insured local area meets, the Speed Series, special offers from sponsors, discounted insurance, 30 years of advice, tips and experience as Mark says (plus 30 years of magazines with advice, tips and experience), the friendship and support of many kind and wonderful people, all run by unpaid volunteers, and dozens of other things that more than pay back that sum every year, is preposterously, stupidly, insanely good value IMHO. Being a member has paid for itself a dozen time over - at least it has for me. We very nearly went broke 6 years ago when we had a forum that was free to post. Memberships halved, we were losing money hand over fist, the forums were full of trolls and halfwits, the forums were a very unfriendly place, and people were deeply unhappy. The WSCC came THAT close to dying. We're not going back to that, nor are we having an expensive to set up and maintain two-tier membership system - ever. The club provides equal benefits to all, or there's no point having a club whatsoever. Final bit: Click Sorry if that comes across as negative, but them's the facts. The proof is that we have twice as many members now as we did in 2011. I appreciate the idea and I'm not directing anything at you personally at all but the idea crops up every few years and it needs to be explained why it's not going to happen - hope you understand.

  4. Managed to get my nice new Carbon-NV Half Doors fitted today - just in time for the Alps trip on Friday. Thought I'd post up some pics and share my fitting technique. So, my priority here was to avoid making any more holes in the tub or scuttle. This meant that I had to have a cunning plan that involved using the existing screw fixing that holds on my aeroscreen. I figured that if I did this, then I could do a Lamborghini Stylee flip up door hinge - and then just had to figure out a way to hold the doors on without drilling the tub. I also wanted it to be as easy as possible to flip forward and thus make entry/exit easier. So, here's what I came up with: After affixing the front of the door to the pre drilled aeroscreen fixing point - attach a small bungee with some P Clips... This is held in place with a small domed head allen bolt in the alloy panel using a rubber 'rivnut' The door then gets held in place - with only a couple of rivets visible (I'll paint them black and you'll hardly notice) and more importantly no extra holes in the bodywork - result and can swing up out of the way in a few seconds I also have another small bungee held in place by the JK rear seat fixings - this can loop over the pointy bit of the door at the rear (forgot to take a pic though!) I'll probably replace the bungees with some shock chord so there's no sharp edges to catch on clothing, but it works well for now!

  7. I have saved way more than £27.50 using the stuff and nonsense section for non Westfield issues and you don't get that anywhere else. The responses are also amazingly quick and full of advice or solutions to problems. I saved about £250 this year by listening to advice about car insurance and used A Plan Its a YES from me every time

  8. IMO WSCC - Amazing Bargain I've had membership of many clubs ever the years. This cheapest and by far best value. Although ultimately it's cost me a fortune.... in upgrades, track, sprinting, trailer hire etc etc etc

  11. Another superb day at Knockhill. Are we just lucky with the weather or what? I think thats the seventh time I've been now, and never seen much in the way of rain.. yesterday was even warm! Only thirty cars entered, so there was plenty of space on track. Had some cracking sessions with the other Westys, will get some vid up at some point. Bad luck John (Hornet) with the holed duratec.. must admit, that's the first time I've seen that? very odd. hope you can get sorted quickly for your road trip.

  13. I'm looking for advice to setup my go-pro for a track day tomorrow What settings would you recommend for, video resolution; FPS; Field of view etc.... Not been very successful with it to date, last time i used it i was scuba diving and managed to set camera directing too high, so missed all the fish!! Thanks in advance Andy

  14. I wasn't saying I agree, but saying I understood the reasoning. The council tax extension works though - I don't use libraries so why should I pay for them? So the council make a tier of council tax where you pay a bit less and can't use a library. How much would be saved? Not enough to make it worth doing I suspect.

  15. My car was exactly what I wanted from a Westfiled. It also had an aeroscreen. I just had a windscreen fitted instead and now it's perfect.....! I wouldn't be put of by a small(ish) mod for the perfect car, they don't come along very often.

  16. My tuppence worth for what's it's really worth….over the years I've joined various car forums and had some great advise and discussions, but i must say this is by far the most helpful and knowledgeable site I've joined…I did wonder when i looked at joining why does it cost money as a lot of the sites are free, but the most of them is full of guys just posting c..p. I've bought a lot of stuff on the forum since I've joined so i've probalby got my money back and more. The mags are good quality and it's down to everyone to make them better by sending in their photos and stories... It's been said before, it's a club and they all have memberships….

  21. Think of it as £2.25 per month, or 7.3 pence per day..... Almost any club you want to join will have a subscription. It is not a forum, it is a club, and the forum is part of the club

  23. That's fine, we've both put our points across and shall agree to disagree. Not going to get into a debate about it, it would be pointless and possibly counterproductive and argumentive which would be wrong. The club and its offerings aren't for everyone, and as Mark points out, much of the forums are publicly visible to non-members anyway, even if that does cost the members money to host and maintain - it's just that non-members can't post questions and receive specific valuable information and advice for free. It's up to each person to decide whether or not it's for them at the end of the day. I wish you all the best whether you remain a member or decide to move on.

  25. I think that the WSCC represents insanely good value and as already said it is much much more than a forum. I would like to think I have made many friends from the social side of the club. I am also a member of VSCC, RREC, BOC, model T register and a few others and in some cases they are 3 times the price. I also used to be on pistonheads quite a lot from the early days when it was mainly TVR and Petrolted. It is free but the nature of the posts mean many topics degenerate pretty quickly. I suspect moderating it is a nightmare also. If membership stops the forum declining into a free for all then I think it is also a price worth paying.

  26. Fuel situation is getting better and now have the motorhome full of diesel and two gerry cans full of race fuel. So relaxing in the sun on the SW Brittany coast. Enjoying the food, cider and wine and looking forward to St Goueno.

  27. The difficulty is that there is a significantly greater percentage of members that don't use the forum and voted to retain the club magazine. In order to offer a "forum only" membership we would have to ensure that only those members who have paid for magazines have access to them and the online and back scanned issues. The question has been raised a number of times in the recent years and discussed to death, but the majority vote at the time was to retain the magazine as part of the membership. IMO a two tier membership will not work and will create an administrative nightmare for the unpaid volunteers that run this club in their own time.

  28. As a non paying "guest" you are free to browse most of the clubs forums and glean information from the many posts contained their in . However would you consider £27.50 an unreasonable amount to pay so as to search and gain access to 30years of archive material and seek answers to your technical questions for which members offer their time and assistance for free?

  31. I'm not sure either way. My postal vote card arrived yesterday and it's sitting on the mantlepiece glaring at me. I think it's an 'out' for me. I'm sure leaving the EU will cause all sorts of upsets for ten years or so and then things will settle down. In that case I truly believe we'll look at the state of the EU and be glad we left.

  32. Good Question: only 11 so far so you get a nice empty track; so dont tell the others! Only kidding its a very nice circuit and i have to say in a biased way the WSCC drivers are most conscientious and you wont knowthey are on the track with you. Cheers Panda

  38. You need to get it much taughter than that over the cockpit Craig, or it will flood in heavy rain! (Don't ask how I know...) To be fair, it was originally done for ZK bodywork cars rather than FW, but it's elastic straps should be ok. The back edge will hook under the rear edge of a ZK tub, and under the back edges of the rear wheel arches, this both gets it low at the sides and pulls it tight over the cockpit. With sidescreens, you can tuck the edges of the cap under the front lower corners of the side screens, again, helping to keep it low at the sides and tight over the top. Use of elastic threaded through the tabs helps a great deal here though. Rather than threading the shock cord through everytime, I bought some little mould plastic carabiners off eBay. One end of the elastic shock cord is tied to the loop on the shower cap at one side and tied to a carabiner which hooks into the loop on the other.

  40. My take... Control of borders is a two way street. If we raise the drawbridge, it is possible the continental European nations could start to insist on visa's for both work and play. That puts costs up for those who sell human expertise or want to holiday in Europe. Free from EU legislation. Again a two way street. Whilst we are in we have the veto, in theory. If we exit, we lose the ability to affect EU law. What happens if they slap a tax on banks trading when done with the UK? It could be as simple as a fee when sending money abroad, to multi-million euro/pound share or takeover deals. If we're out, we can't veto the imposition of that sort of thing. I'd love to hear the City view on this. Trade deals. We buy far more from the EU than we sell. Take German cars and white goods as an example. And French cars for that matter. And French electricity. Or Italian cars. Or Spanish holidays. Or holidays in general. I would hope that many European countries would be keen to keep selling to us which should put us in a position to negotiate good trade deals, and quickly. And all that ignores the world economy. Many of the things we rely on are traded in dollars. Oil springs to mind. Most of our telly comes from Hollywood. Plenty of our cars are made by Ford or GM. Our steel isn't imported from the EU but from China, along with LOTS and LOTS of our every day items. Our PC's, phones, TV's, DVD players are mostly made in China/Korea. Microsoft, Apple and Google (Android) are not European. To my mind the EU is arguably based on geographical convenience rather than any coherent trade policy. Is it a risk getting out? Dunno. It was just as big a risk getting in and it seems that having sampled the goods, we're wondering of we made a good choice. At least this time it'll be US who decide, rather than those with a vested interest. I think the most important thing is this; whether we vote in or out we should accept it and move on with conviction and purpose.

  41. One thing that is worth mentioning and im sure would vastly improve how it drives is to ditch those 17' wheels! They have no place on a westy imo, take advice from some of the suspension setup companies mentioned but i would guess 15's would be much more suitable.

  42. For completeness, Northampton Motorsport won't be a million miles from you either! The thing is, while basic set up sheets do exist for most of the recent at least, Westfield models. Really, they should be regarded as just a starting point, in many cases. What you need is a specialist, and all those mentioned above have the know.edge and expertise to do it, who will understand what they need to do to get the car feeling right for YOU. Everyone has different tastes and expectations, and everyone tend to use the cars slightly differently. Some may prefer quite a loose, darty feeling car, whereas others want something more neutral. A specialist will know how to achieve this.

  43. Hi Natalie. I have some parts of this from my custom seight system in stainless you can have. They are mainly rear pipe and in the transmission tunnel pieces. They would need joining to other similar diameter pieces.you will need a y piece and a silencer or maybe two if you want it quiet. If you want a new one making then jp exhaust in Macclesfield do mine and have done quite a few seights. They made my most recent one. Let me know if it's of use, I am based in Cheshire and pass jp most days.... Cheers jon
