  1. I think Scott has pretty much nailed it in his post here, but I wanted to add my personal thanks. Thank you! Thank you for all your support Thank you for visiting in droves Thank you for coming along and helping Thank you for a fast and efficient set-up and take-down Thank you to my fellow Committee Members for their support Thank you for hanging around to help when I know you were itching to get going Thank you to those who came and spoke to us about taking on the organisation for year Thank you to Ian and the 1st Lyonsdown Scout Group for the loan of the trailer and electrics Thank you for sticking with it even when the weather seemed to want to dampen (literally) our spirits Thank you Ian and Marcus for sorting out the marquee and Hall 2 and despite our best efforts for ending up front of the BBQ again I'm not ashamed nor do I feel biased or embarrassed in any way to say that this year has been the best I've ever known to date...

  2. To everyone who came to Stoneleigh as a visitor; to everyone who volunteered for club duties and gave of their time at the show; to everyone who came to the AGM; to the magnificent Stoneleigh Organising Team of Andy, Ian and Marcus; to Clark and his fantastic club merchandise; to Peter Osborne for designing (if not bringing!) the club anniversary T-shirts and Mark Stanton for arranging the award crystal; and to all who made this Stoneleigh one of the very best in the club's history... THANK YOU!

  3. My comments after my 15th Stoneleigh. Lamb:- Great, fantastic, brilliant idea! Wine :- Great, not all of us have the storage capacity for gallons of beer Everything else relating to the WSCC:- Extra special as usual, the organisers, the volunteers, the cars, the people, the fun, the pi$$ takes, the wind ups, you name it, lets all pat ourselves on the back for being the best represented club at the show

  5. Hi All Just a brief summary of Hethel yesterday! Although there was not many Speed Series entries it was great day to see so manyfriends and WSCC personalities around the paddock. In addition the weather was kind apart from head wind on the home straight! It was great to see David Hussey as Club Steward and Martin Hepworth my old sparring partner from Class C. Matt Hillam was there with Steve Broughton in the Dallara and Matt's previous experience of Hethel resulted in him getting the better of Steve on the day. Pete Goulding provided great entertainment at one moment having lost his glasses inside the cramped quarters of his new single seater. I am not sure if his much abused wife will provide the essential paddock support services at his next event! Del got the drop on Garry in the Dick Spanner orange machine and my unexplained run of miserable times continues. The only downside of the day was that we only got one practice run. Because the weather was so good and universally acclaimed as the best event of the season so far, many of the competitors went for it and over did it many times with a considerable number of offs. None were serious but they did incur considerable track sweeping activities after each occurrence. To comply with the MSA Blue Book we all had to actually sign away our entitlement to a second practice run so that the 100+ entrants could get 2 qualifying timed runs. The banter around the paddock was good with our friends from Borough 19, Lotus 7 club and the Lotus On Track Elise drivers. Very enjoyable day and back home by 6-30pm. Glutey (trainee event reporter)

  6. Ahh, the Pretzels Just how many were in that jar again Scott? As for Sunday evening, I purposeley left this little snippet out of my earlier post in this thread, waiting to see if you would mention it This was an absolute classic moment, and your face was priceless , followed by a reaction that any sargeant major would have been proud of - about turn and out of the tent you went, scorched footprints on the grass from the sheer speed of the exit It was very funny indeed. I think lady chair had taken a few wines when she had said this, so I only thought it right to top her glass up a couple more times All good fun as they say

  8. True. For those who weren't there, i explained that whenever people ask me what a chairman does, I tell them I'm a bit like a bidet - no one is quite sure what I do, but I add a touch of class to the place.

  11. I had kind of an exciting weekend. My baby got out in the sunshine for the first time! IMG_6730 by Chris Garrity, on Flickr I've still got a lot of gremlins to chase out of the wiring, and some things like the front wings, but it's starting to come together. BTW, if you click through to that image, it's actually a video.

  13. As we do every year for the past few years, here is the feedback thread. I'd like to know all the good and all the bad, please feel free to comment. To get the ball rolling I've icked a few of my own and some that you told me about over the wekend... Good - Lamb Roast - Same again next year please Good - Beer - Same again next year, maybe just two barrels though. They come from Warwickshire Brewery just down the road if anyone wants to suggest a particular brew for 2017 Good - Numbers of helpers was spot on and everyone mucked in Good - Although it was an early finish, I personally think the take down went rely well this year Bad - Monday weather and attendance figures but we can't do anything about the weather Good - New Farmers Café and their willingness to shelter and entertain us and sell us beer late into the night. I'll do a specific note to them on this and their Lamb Roast Good - Camping area staked out, although not so busy, perhaps the weather drove into local B&Bs Good - Car parking across the way from camping rather on the camp-site and around the marque Idea - Big rubber mats, preferably branded for the entrances to the marquee Idea - Open another part of the marquee for set-up so we don't tread down the show day entrances Idea - Buy a couple of patio heaters Idea - Branded Walker St Claire cockpit covers for rent (monies to charity) Good - Huge numbers of cars on Monday around 160 I think (not official figures, count to be declared in official report) Good - Storage and location of show kit. We will also improve on this with shelving and plastic boxes properly labelled 'nuff from me.

  15. I thought it was all pretty smooth to be honest. The lamb, beer and wine was a great idea, as was a bbq burger around lunchtime for people working in the marquee. Entrance mats are a really good idea. The autojumble space was a bit tight this year, at one point there was no room on the table for fresh stuff, so it just got piled on top of other stuff. Maybe one less car in the marquee and another couple of tables to spread stuff out a bit more? Putting a car on the A Plan stand was good I thought, although next year can we have one that does not smell of fuel Regarding the AGM - It crossed my mind that if the reports were published in the members only area and also emailed out to every member, then they could have the opportunity to read them (if they wish) say a week before the AGM. This would then help the AGM run by not having to read the reports. A simple question of "Have you any comments on the (Insert officers title) report?". If not, move onto the next. Maybe a "Main bullett point" verbal delivery at the start of the AGM pulling out the highlights/salient points from all of the reports, then any questions and onto AOB. Just an idea for consideration. Recognition for outstanding service is excellent and should continue. The free membership raffle was a good idea, but I think the parking attendants should highlight this when they hand the piece of paper out, maybe we would get a higher attendance at the AGM and draw? I am sure some people never even looked at it, just shoved it in a pocket or bag.

  16. Westfield have a drop box link they will send you if you ask, containing the "manual" as it stands plus photos and other bits and pieces. The manual isn't complete but is useful along with the build blogs on here. So far I've managed to find answers either in the manual or on here, failing that Mark Walker at Westfield is very helpful.

  19. Two stories from a personal point of view, both from Sunday: > First thing on Sunday morning, walking to the marquee from my car. Marcus Barlow's sons are flying about on their scooters. The older one says to me, "Are you The Pretzel Man?". *Sigh* Will I never escape my past? Even the children of the members remember those flaming pretzels. I will kill the next person who tries to give me a pretzel. > Sunday evening, post-AGM. Lamb roast on the go, alcohol being sunk. Lady Chair looks at North Oxfordshire AO Gary Lucas and for some reason I have yet to figure out, decides his overall "good looks" (note quotation marks) means he should be the "face of the club". Gary "Carbon Loopy" Lucas, Hater of Chrome and a gent who has wound me up once or four times. She marches over and tells him this, while he grins at me like a Cheshire Cat. Clearly she thinks MY face isn't suitable - thanks, darling. I don't know if she was genuine, deluded or drunk, but he's now officially The Face of the Club - God help you all.

  20. Branded mats on the entrance would be more professional than cardboard boxes, but could the whole marquee be carpeted? The stuff that's used at shows must be fairly cheap and available from the marquee hirers'. Or would the grass need to be boarded over? I'm not a vegetarian, god made animals too tasty, but was there a veggie option for the BBQ?

  23. oh and how about a games console with a steering wheel with a suitable racing game - competition on one circuit/lap to see who gets quickest time - small entry fee say 50p and the money goes into the pot for the winner (or half for the winner and the rest to charity)?

  30. Thanks to everyone for a great time. Good company and a good laugh. The beer and the lamb were a real winner. It would be nice if that was a regular event !! It was a pleasure to volunteer. A big thanks to Andy, Ian and Marcus for organising it all. See you all again next year, if not before. Nic and Tom Can you smell petrol ...........??

  34. It's too dangerous on a motorway to have everyone stop, the way we do on A road break downs. Myself and a couple of others slowed to pull over both times, but as soon as we saw you had at least one car with you, carried on again. (I actually got as far as pulling on to the hard shoulder the first time, then looked behind me to see three or more cars pulling over!

  38. My existing insurer took the premium 2 days after sending out the renewal notice and 5 days before expiry under "Automatic Renewal". A quick call to Thatcham (10 miles away) saved me 40%.

  40. Create a fake ID and go on a few van and car insurance comparison websites, kitchens, double glazers, life insurance with his mobile number. He'll be getting cold calls day and night for weeks !! Or put a classified add on Gumtree or in a local paper advertising something silly cheap with his number. The internet is a wonderful thing ;-) Better still post it up here and we can all start calling him ;-) If he hasn't changed his phone voicemail pin (bet he hasn't) he might find he has a different voicemail message and pin set over night ;-) There are plenty of ways of p******** people off ...
