  1. Thought this might be useful for anyone who is camping this coming weekend at Stoneleigh (as it might be cold) and those brave souls who camp in the cold. (Not wanting to teach people to suck eggs, BTW). I was passed this information many years ago when I was a Scout, and having been a scout leader for over 25 years, it is something I pass on to all my scout group children. Sleeping bags can be warm or very cold, depending on how you look after them. The bags work by trapping warm air from your body in-between the fibres inside the bag. Your body needs to give off heat in order for the bag to work. This means that if you wrap yourself up in lots of thick layers, and insulate yourself, then the sleeping bag won't be as effective. Best way to store a sleeping bag is NOT in it's small stuff-sack but in a bin liner, so it is not too compressed. A few days before use, open the bag and give it a really good shake. This will allow the fibres inside to open up and separate, which means that when you use it for the first night, it will actually work properly. Sleeping bags are ok for a few hours in the stuff sack when transporting to the campsite, and as soon as you arrive, open it up and shake it again. You get what you pay for with sleeping bags, and if you spend £20 then don't expect it to work very well as the temperature approaches freezing - the cheap bags in Halfords, Argos and camping shops are generally for summer use only, when the temperature does not drop below 16 degrees. Better to spend money on a bag that can handle temps between 0 and 16, which will cover most leisure camping in the UK - if you are feeling flush then go for a RAB bag, but at £200 you need to be a dedicated camper!! Added info: Two types of fillings, down and synthetic. Down is more bulky but IMHO they feel much warmer. A down bag will lose almost all of its insulating properties when wet, and will take a long time to dry out and become effective again. Synthetic bags retain a much higher proportion of their insulating value and, as they absorb much less moisture, will dry out much faster. A good sleeping mat makes a big difference if the ground is cold as you will lose less heat to the ground. Hope this is information found to be useful BTW if you do get cold, I am not responsible!!!!! Thanks Ian

  4. Hi Barny, I might try and make that then and see if I can catch up with you in the paddock and have a nose at the car if that's ok? Mart.

  11. Quite right. If you want to display you car for sale, make sure you tell the parking marshals on entry and you'll be directed to the marquee area. Make sure you bring some suitable for sale signs, etc.

  16. Hi All, I have bounced around on this forum mainly around the parts wanted and parts for sale section for the last 7 weeks. However, I thought I would just introduce myself in the Start Line section, so other would be Westy owners can also see what a new owner has done immediately after purchase. I just negotiated the purchase of my 2001 Westy SEIW wide-body 9000 miles, full MOT and 2.0L silvertop Zetec, from a fellow member and have been changing it to suit my needs. I just thought I would start a thread on here, so people can see the journey the car has taken and maybe even take the odd tangent if anyone has any good suggestions. This is now a three quarters done car, with the finishing touches taking place over the next couple of weeks. A little masking and the introduction of Orange.... Then a gentle jog out up the coast road in Newcastle, to see if she still works, she did. Pulled over in Jesmond, to take a picture or two... and to finish.... This will be a little different. I now have the wide body SEIW "kit bodywork" V8 scoop and bonnet, complete with Quattraporte style side racing grills. This will be orange in about a week with the black grill work. There is also: New Kawasaki ZZR racing mirrors to be side fitted, dual pin, for stability Race-tech rear view mirror OMP flat bottomed wheel in alcantara New gear and brake gators in black leather with orange stitching New shortened gear stick, with new aluminium ball (7) knob New 4 inch dominator headlights Rear arch carbon protection (probably vinyl as I have the extra wide arches and the usual Westfield ones do not fit) I am looking for exhaust protector in chrome with holes in, but no joy so far... The car is just up at British Sports Car Services, in Acomb, Hexham, getting a full nut and bolt check, with some carb fiddling and a new starter motor, previous one was intermittently rubbish. Then, she should be ready for the summer....not Stoneleigh unfortunately. I am looking for a side/bonnet decal that looks like a curvy chequered flag, or, wavy Union Jack, if anybody knows where I can get such a thing, please point me in the right direction. Finished pictures up in the next few weeks. Thanks Scott

  17. What a brilliant time. Well organised and great mix of people. GTR's, Lambos, AMG Mercs, Ferrari, etc. Also Lupos, Golfs, 206 etc so real mix with everybody simply interested in cars. Broad age range so my worry about being the oldest was not founded. Recommend it to everyone. Next advertised trip is into Europe which would be great. They even carried our luggage in their Range Rover as clearly the boot in a Westfield is not big enough. I need to catch up on my sleep as little pillow time was available if you join in with all the activities with gusto - like us!

  20. Granted and well put. However it's not the fact that bits have broken. It's how it's put right in my mind that's important. I've spoken to 3 sr2 owners who've had the same issue, one was on the car's first run. There's no doubt it's a great looking kit though and I can also appreciate roadrunner have had massive issues with their premises and by all accounts lucky to still be trading.

  24. Hi. I am sort of split between Lincoln (Lincs) and the NW (where I work during the week). I get over to Lincoln sometimes as my GF lives there and the house I'm selling is there. I see your in Horsington. I use to work at Coningsby and my old Fury used to live just outside Horncastle. My friend has a SEIW, but with standard floors, he JK composite seats floor mounted. And I really struggle with the proximity of the wheel to my knees. I would like to try the lowered floor. And think i'd also look to raise the steering wheel as well, as I like a nice high wheel (chest height) I'll give you a shout next time I'm over there, thanks

  28. Thank you everyone for your lovely words and helpful advice. Neither of us is hurt at all and the car is completely ok to drive, which is good. A Plan have passed me over to the underwriters and I have requested a price for the repairs from the only people I would trust with my car, namely the Westfield factory. Apart from Glen of course, he is always nice to my car. We have had the rear wheel off and there is no obvious damage other than the surface scuffs, but I will ask for it to be confirmed. I cannot see or feel any bends and I have put a steel ruler along the chassis and wishbones. Robin - the wheel has some scuffs and a dint on it. The rear wheel arch is detachable and was only off a few months ago when Glen put some piping between the arch and the tub, more prettiness.

  29. Hi Mart, thanks for your reply, I love classic minis and that one is an absolute hoot! I came dead last in class ha ha! I transferred my entry from my Westfield to the mini at the last minute so ended up in the up to 2 litre roadgoing class, with loads of serious hillclimb cars. I had a great battle with another mini though, I finished 0.4 seconds behind him which I was pretty pleased with since it was my first time driving the car. I have since found out that the guy I was battling is the class record holder there and has 50% more power than I did, so I'm now even more pleased! He has a 1380 with 154bhp vs our 104bhp

  31. Nooooooo!! This was one of main main reasons for heading along this year, I'm doing a dash conversation and wanted to take a look at the options for switches and buy them all at the stand. I don't mind ordering them and them being posted but I wanted to be able to take a proper look and see how they feel

  32. Or take a rechargeable battery operated charger with you, they are not expensive and will boost your phone charge if it is getting low

  33. Agreed, I don't want the club being responsible for someone's expensive phone being nicked by scum. Charge your phone before you set off and switch them off until you get to the show, you should be just fine.
