Once again we have decided to support the Children's Air Ambulance at Stoneleigh. It's a national charity and one which a few us already support. All proceeds from the sale of paper Westfields and the Snack Bar will go to the charity as ever. One of the feedback ideas from last year was to have the ability for Members and the general public make a donation. To that end I've been in touch with the charity and have got two collecting tins. One will be tied down to the snack bar and one will be mobile as the need arises. Please note. We need to keep an eye on these for obvious reasons. Anyone not a recognised Member or suitably attired in WSCC T-shirts seen in possession should be challenged, get help if you need it and just ask. We will be around also, so it's no biggie, you will be supported. If you want to donate, please do so. If you want to donate more than will fit in the tin, please see me. If you want to donate personally, i.e. not as WSCC, please go to https://www.theairambulanceservice.org.uk/childrens-air-ambulance/ Thanks3 points

Thoroughly enjoyed the run yesterday and thanks to Rab, Dean, Dave and Ray in the Lotus for the company! We were lucky with the weather, so had 150+ miles of dry, fast and quiet borders roads for the fist 'Clan' run of the year. A wee visit to Kames to see Alastair and Paul at the test day and sample the delights of the Kames café just set the day off nicely. Even had some sunshine on the way back but to was 'slightly' chilly! Nae luck to all you others who missed this and roll on the next one! Matt2 points

Or take a rechargeable battery operated charger with you, they are not expensive and will boost your phone charge if it is getting low2 points

This is the one we use on our European tours, the proper dry bags and you can use the clip to attach it to the cage http://www.ewetsuits.com/acatalog/dry-bag-holdalls.html2 points

I have for sale from my Westfield a 4.4:1 CWP on a viscus LSD upgraded by Bara Motorsport to 180Nm, in a 7" sierra case. There is a repair to the lower flange of the case which is of no detriment to the operation or installation of the diff The westfield mounting points have been helicoiled to accept M12 cap head bolts for easier installation. This diff is in great condition and ideal for anyone who wants to optimise gearing for shorter courses or hills. The LSD is stiff but not aggressive and IMHO the best option for a Westfield. Anyone who has considered this set up will know that to get this lot new would be circa £2k if you could find a 4.4CWP. I'm looking for £850. PM or call me on 07973 5047851 point

Here's my video of my best run at this years Wiscombe Park Hill Climb, 44.24s and a new pb http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbS6x5w66Gg1 point

That's a bl**** committed run that Martin, well done. I've only been to Wiscombe once in 2010 and it was very damp particularly under the trees. I think it's one of the very few class g records I still hold.1 point

Blimey BCF, That's a good result then mate, and the only way you can look at it if the other cars in the class were that much more powerful... 104 bhp is a good spec for a mini, let alone 154....that must be some A series... Really enjoyed the vid mate....keep em coming! Mart.1 point

Thank you everyone for your lovely words and helpful advice. Neither of us is hurt at all and the car is completely ok to drive, which is good. A Plan have passed me over to the underwriters and I have requested a price for the repairs from the only people I would trust with my car, namely the Westfield factory. Apart from Glen of course, he is always nice to my car. We have had the rear wheel off and there is no obvious damage other than the surface scuffs, but I will ask for it to be confirmed. I cannot see or feel any bends and I have put a steel ruler along the chassis and wishbones. Robin - the wheel has some scuffs and a dint on it. The rear wheel arch is detachable and was only off a few months ago when Glen put some piping between the arch and the tub, more prettiness.1 point

Your loss - we'll have a lovely hot weekend drive with no rain or wind, I'm sure. Oh. Anyhow, here's the route. Kev, you should have a 'send to device' option for your phone. Meet Sat 8.30 Boreham Services McDonalds, fuelled ready to go... Blessed, we should arrive at Luton Road, Dunstable McDonalds (just off the A5) around 10.15am hopefully. My mobile is if any problems.1 point

Hi Mart, thanks for your reply, I love classic minis and that one is an absolute hoot! I came dead last in class ha ha! I transferred my entry from my Westfield to the mini at the last minute so ended up in the up to 2 litre roadgoing class, with loads of serious hillclimb cars. I had a great battle with another mini though, I finished 0.4 seconds behind him which I was pretty pleased with since it was my first time driving the car. I have since found out that the guy I was battling is the class record holder there and has 50% more power than I did, so I'm now even more pleased! He has a 1380 with 154bhp vs our 104bhp1 point

Yeah, and take a look round the crowd at Stoneleigh. You'll see a huge number of "men in sheds" type builders who think the Internet is the mesh part of a filter! They buy in shops and at shows and swap meets.1 point

I think most people leaving it off the car long term, just store the hood rolled up as normal. Though maybe not quite so tightly coiled, so as to avoid creasing the windows. Just make sure it's clean and dry before putting it away. With both the sidescreens and the hood, just make sure nothing is pressing against the clear plastic of the windows - even just things like the rounded backs of press studs. You'd be surprised how over time and with some hot weather, the plastic can stretch and mark where something has been pressing into it sharply.1 point

No, a few carry spare fuel. As long as it's in a proper, safe container, and stowed away somewhere safe and secure, there shouldn't be an issue. I'm sure I remember one member storing a jerry can somewhere underneath his boot box, up above the diff or somewhere in that area.1 point

ok so no snow today , sun is out but a wee bit fresh so washed her down and checked her over and replaced the std roll bar with a "westy FW style " one that I had made, added some stainless stone guards and had some lunch. Now some of you may or may not know but when I was introduced into this world , it destroyed my dads dream of owning a 7, he had put a deposit down only for mum to inform him a new car would require 3 seats !!!!!. So anyway while I have been building her , it was kept from my dad (no mean feat) and as he now has all sorts of health problems the rush was on to get completed and him out in her. So sun shining , car looking spik n span, full tank we had a little run down to the coast to surprise dad, mum had him out the back so pulled up in their drive and rang the bell, dad answered and was gobsmacked , so after a coffee and a million questions mum and me helped him into the car with dad duly buckled and wrapped up, we went for a wee blast, only about 10 miles or so. When we got back mum and me got him out and inside, well that was the start , he perked up a genuine smile on his face and an enthusiasm (not seen in a long time) for something. More coffee and tales from back in the day when mum and him were pre-gary and doing stage rallying, friends with healey 100/4 and 3000's or with 7's. and then all of a sudden a very timid question..... can we do it again? answer ...... OF COURSE WE CAN After dinner I drove home in in the evening sun in a world that seemed ok ... for a wee while, and boy did I enjoy today, about 100 miles or so Gary1 point

You probably can ! Hi spec made me a handbrake cable with the right ends to fit their calipers .I bought some thick aluminium to use as adaptor brackets and had them machined for fit. Your only challenge will be clearance and overlap with existing uprights. You are best to check measurements and make a cardboard template first. My only problem was if the mounting holes were similar to your existing calipers as you don't get any material or space to work with. If you can't get aluminium easily then rally design used to sell adaptor brackets you could machine down. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=rally+design+caliper+adapter&safe=off&client=tablet-android-samsung&biw=1024&bih=768&tbm=isch&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwivtKjizu_LAhVJPRQKHXbKBksQ_AUItAEoAQ#imgrc=eScyGHi8KLMaMM%3A Use cardboard it will save you pounds in wrong decisions ☺1 point
