  1. Bargain R1R's here - just ordered some, could't resist at just over £25 a corner! EDIT - they say it was an error and cancelled my order - in case anyone doesn't read the full thread...

  4. Here are two videos of our recent trip to Thunder day. The first one is pictures and the second has the sound of the planes. Bit disappointed with the pictures as part of them have been lost in the editing.

  9. I am still coming and watching the weather to confirm if the Westie comes out. Can I come on the run in the scruffy ZX and loiter at the back, as its always useful to check some new roads out and I can offer a tow rope in the unfortunate eventuality of a breakdown, although its usually me who needs one....

  10. I think Fraser is suggesting that there are many engineers that feel the rose joint is used inappropriately at times. I would add that my son is a senior stress analyst with a highly respected motorsport/automotive engineering company with a great deal of experience of suspension design and failure modes. He is not happy with rose joints in some positions on a race car, though designers do spec them, but it is a definite no no when applied to a road car as the maintenance is generally insufficient to spot early signs of problems. Ultimately I think we need to agree to disagree as there are as many engineers for as against using rose joints where excessive shear and/or bending forces may be encountered or inspection and maintenance may be a little sparse.

  11. Usually blokes buy something like a Westfield in their Mid Life Crisis, about mid 40's. I started my Mid Life Crisis in the mid 40's and I'm still there at 64. So on my authority Westfields keep you young and cool.

  12. Rosejoints are ideal for motorsport, but that isn't Blinks point, his point ios that they are ideal in the correct application (ie in engineering terms). They are designed to take (in layman''s terms) push and pull loads. Of course you could use them for an application where they are put into sheer load, but only by "over engineering", ie by using a massive joint.

  14. A very enjoyable car set-up session that progressively became more competitive! The damp track was treacherous in the morning but as soon as it dried the fun began. Marto was really flying. The event was very well organised and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Interestingly a number of people were saying that the number and complexity of the MSA rules and regulations had led them to choose the Javelin events so maybe this is seen as the new entry to sprinting? It actually reminded me of the non-MSA sprints run by the Lotus Drivers Club at Wellesbourne that I started off with. Finally of possible interest, Javelin announced that Croft will replace their Oulton Round that has been cancelled due to noise issues. Keith

  15. Great to meet you both yesterday, I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves! Looks like there were some great battles to be had towards the top of the class I was lower down in the B class but was still very happy with 15th overall placing and a best time of 1:13.87. I had a very good fight with my friend in his newly-acquired MK Indybusa - although as soon as he gets to grips with it properly he'll be running rings around me! Here's my best run: https://youtu.be/smS-yXfW7kc Hope to see you all at another event

  16. My dad and I build our Westfield back in 1989 when I was 14. Started driving it when I was 18 and sprinting with my dad from 1995 to 2011. Cant see it going anywhere soon.

  17. I sat in a Lotus 7 in the 60's at the Earls Court motor show and said to myself "one day......". Started the build 2 years before the turn of the century, registered Babe May 2000. Just turned 22,000 miles. Only 68.

  18. Tom, I'm only 65kg so that should save you around 1072 balloons, although you might need to up your estimate quite a bit for some of our other committee members

  20. Since 11 or 12 for me.Following siting in passengers seat of an early Lotus Seven a friend of my Gramps had. I thought it was a grown ups version of the Go kart I hammered around our house!

  21. Like you, I wanted a Se7en when I was a teenager - probably the same age as you - when the only Se7en I knew anything about was £643/15s/6d* in kit form. The Series 2 Lotus Seven of course. When my fellow bus traveller and I were merely 'an item' in about 1965 we were parked by the roadside near Denham, Bucks., in a layby off the A40, when a Lotus Seven screamed by heading east from Denham roundabout. At that point my Mrs-to-be caught the bug too! She had been a fully paid up leather clad biker's girlfriend prior to meeting me and I suppose the Se7en was the nearest thing she could aspire to with me in tow. The best I could manage on two wheels in my motoring career was a Triumph Tiger Cub which I bought to get me to the BMC dealership for yet more spares when my MG Midget broke down - again! *this might be approximate
