Hi Nick, Great shame your handing over the reigns but understand the decision. Thanks for doing an awesome job, I for one understand the time and commitment you have given over the years, the Speed Series has been well looked after! Thanks also for your help, support and guidance during my 10 years sprinting, you got me into it, it's all your fault.... Good luck to your successor, you're lucky to be getting a great teacher! Thanks again Rich5 points

Sad news for the speed series and i echo Mark's comments. I have given some of my time to support him with target times and other arrangements and understand some of the pressures and the amount of time and work involved. Thanks Nick5 points

Nick I can't believe its 10 years since you took over from Steve Robinson. Having been on the organising team for a couple of seasons I have had an insight into the amount of work thats involved. Often a thankless task too, as you can't please all the people all of the time, or in fact any of them at any time. You can see why Bernie runs F1 as a dictatorship ! I think i can speak on behalf of all in the speed series in saying a big thank you for all you have done for the club and the speed series.5 points

I found it hard to tell from that, how the show will be. One thing I'm hugely disappointed by is how close it seems to be following the previous Clarkson era model. I'm really hoping it's just down to the editing of the clips. But I was so hoping for Top Gear V3.0 with a wholly new format/approach.4 points

I did actually post it Yesterday for that very reason Martin so sorry but it's not a 1st April joke. Thanks everyone for your kind comments, it those and the ones that I have got throughout doing the job that make all the effort worthwhile4 points

Nick, both as a member of the Club committee, and as a participant in your SSOC, I have seen some of the enormous amount of work you have put in over the last ten years in order to build and maintain a successful and fair national competition. We will all miss your sagacity, tenacity and good humour enormously. If ever honorary life membership were deserved . . . . . .4 points

I completely understand why you want to step down. 10 years is a hell of a stint and I personally appreciate all of your efforts and hard work as I am sure others do too4 points

Echo this.... although only in my 2nd full season. You were one of the influences in encouraging participation, Muchly Ta! You've grown a great team to support you, so hopefully there's one amongst these with experience to take up the mental4 points

As Nick says above, we have discussed this and it is with sadness, regret but complete understanding and great appreciation of his sacrifice that I support his decision. Nick has given huge amounts of his personal time and resources and performed his role of Competition Secretary with extreme professionalism at all times, as well as being a fantastic and supportive committee colleague. Unless you have been in the SSOT or on committee, you cannot imagine all Nick has done for the club, all the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune with which he has been unfairly hit, and all for the love of motorsport and the WSCC. I shall particularly miss his unique way of quickly cutting straight to the heart of an issue with a few well chosen words, some of them actually repeatable in this forum, his great humour, and his experience and wisdom. Above all, I count him as a true friend. Thank you Nick, from me and from everyone in the club, as well as our thanks to Jane for her support as well. I hope you will all join me in thanking them, especially at Stoneleigh when he presents his final AGM report.4 points

Seriously now Thanks for all your hard work and commitment over the years and it's been a pleasure working with you on the organising team. Does this mean we'll see you out more competing, breaking records all over the place ?3 points

Hi Nick Massive thanks from me as well. I can only imagine all the hard work that goes into organising this but its always apriciated. The Speed Series has gone from strength to strength during your time which is a real credit. Can’t believe its been 10 years either. Can totally understand the desire to step down after all this time. Cheers Ian2 points

March 11th, 2016 Spend: £0.00 Dotting i's and crossing t's. Fixed the issue with the shift light and applied some Sikaflex to the DRLs in the cycle wings. And then went for the first spin this year! I would have video footage to proof it, but my son pressed the record button twice instead of once, recording a still of his hand in front of the camera and nothing else March 12th, 2016 Spend: £9.96 Swapped my scuttle bolts/nuts over for quick release skewers, the ones you use to secure your bicycle seat post. Should make removal next time around a little bit easier. Also put two push switches on the control panel: one to open the secure parking gate, the other for the garage door March 25th, 2016 Spend: £80.89 Was browsing Ebay one evening last week and someone listed a (slightly) used Westfield 4-point harness, with a Buy-It-Now price that was just to good to let go. So fast-forward to today when the courier dropped them off and the exchange could take place From to in an hour or so March 31st, 2016 Spend: £0.00 Big shout out to the weather today as it enabled me to book the car in for it's MOT. Considering I've done 5577 miles in the past 12 months it was good to hear that it passed with just the two advisories: - Front wheel bearing has slight play (both sides) - Slight oil leak Number two is quite obvious and persistent, so not sure how I am going to resolve this without extensive engine/gearbox removal, but I should at least be able to resolve number one... Time to find out what bearings I have and how to replace them Last month: £ 2185.75 This month: £ 90.85 ----------+ Total: £ 2276.601 point

Having done this job since 2007 when I first started jointly with Steve Robinson and then by myself from 2008 I have decided it’s time to stop and hand over to someone else as by the end of this year it will be 10 years. Thanks to everyone who has helped over the years it is very enjoyable job and it’s great to see all the happy satisfied people both on the track and at the Awards Dinner but does of course have its difficulties as well. And no, sorry, but I’m not changing my mind. I did talk this through with our Chairman Scott Young about a month ago, so it’s not been a decision made in haste. I will therefore NOT be putting myself forward for re-election in the upcoming April elections. One of the difficulties has been in the past finding someone who doesn’t want to compete yet wants to do the job. To help with this I am happy to continue as the Championship Coordinator who submits the regs to the MSA. This means that it is possible for one of the competitors to do the job of Competition Secretary. Equally I am happy to stand down from that if the right person comes along. Although I do have a commitment to the MSA to oversee this year’s championship which I am intending to honour. If anyone is interested in taking the job on and would like further information then I am happy to talk it through.1 point

Just a cauctionary note chaps but be aware that there are two different types of narrow bonnet, those designed for the lowline nosecone and the other for the high-line nose. These are not interchangable.see the FAQ to work out which you have. Replacement narrow "standard" body high-line bodywork is still available new from the factory, they no longer have lowline as i understand that the moulds reached their serviceable end and were disposed of.1 point

Nigel at AVO supplied replacement bushes foc. Emailed him on a Thursday, bushes arrived the next morning. He said they had similar problems with a batch of poor quality bushes a few years ago. The new ones have AVO cast on them. Thanks Nigel.1 point

Aye, and with so little body mass, if we give you a few puffs of helium to breath first, only the dogs will hear you scream1 point

Tom, I'm only 65kg so that should save you around 1072 balloons, although you might need to up your estimate quite a bit for some of our other committee members1 point

Im 30 and owned mine a year, my dads had a couple which got me into them and i havent looked back since i got it even with plenty of grief that its given me. Notihing else for the money in my opinion gives you anywhere near the feeling of speed or driver involvement and enjoyment, makes cars that felt fast before feel like there towing a house.1 point

Had it since 1998 longer than my wife and spent considerably more on it too. It's a family member now. I am 49 and when I am too old to drive it, I will just look at it.1 point
