  2. I think I am going a bit mad. Booked my Westfield on to this organised car event starting in Manchester city centre on the 22/4/16 and travelling via Peak District to Nottingham then via Lincolnshire Wolds to Louth and then ending in Grantham Hall on the 24/4/16. Reason for going is that my 23 year old son really wanted to do it and we met up with the organisers at Autosport this year. Personally worried about being the oldest person there and with the only car without roof, traction control, airbags etc. Anyone else with a Westfield want to go and keep us company? £199 each seems to cover 'parties' and somewhere good to lay your head - but probably not food. 5 places left. Should be a laugh! Can be found on Facebook or www.thecannonrun.com Hopefully someone with another 'proper' sports car will join us and show these plastic 600Bhp Lambos etc what is best of British.

  3. Hi Folks Nick and I think it most appropriate for me to share with you what happened yesterday at the Loton Park Practice Weekend held under full MSA rules and Regulations. 3 cars were excluded from taking part due to non compliant ROP as specified in the 2016 Blue Book The 3 cars in question were a Caterham with a full cage, a Westfield with a standard hoop with no rear stays and a Fisher with a Roll Over Hoop with forward facing stays. On both the Caterham and the Fisher the tubing of the Roll Over Hoops were smaller in diameter than specified in the Blue Book and neither had labels or certificates to prove that the devices had Homologation Approval. To be fair to the Scrutineers they were prepared to explore all possibilities to avoid exclusion and at least an hour was spent in detailed discussions with the Clerk of the Course to carefully consider all the issues. I took time after the decision was finalised to speak with both the Senior Scrutineer and the Clerk of the Course to better understand the reasons for the decision which was explained to me as follows: 1) The specification of ROP is very clear and detailed in the 2016 Blue Book 2) No need for any interpretation of the rules 3) To allow any competitor to run with any ROP that did not comply could result in the Loton Park track Licence and Insurance becoming invalid in the event of any accident or injury. I think they did their very best but on this basis they were faced with very little option but to exclude the cars in question. I trust you will find this information useful as I believe other events in the future faced with similar non compliance issues will arrive at the same conclusion as the Hadley and District Light Car Club did yesterday. So to avoid disappointment and loss of entry fees it might be sensible to ensure that you all have ROP on your cars that does comply with the current Blue Book. Regards Graham

  4. I don't think the water pump is efficient, so airlocks have to go. Bleed the top hose High under bonnet temperatures evaporate the fuel in the carbs too, usually once you've turned off. There's a fair bit of venting through the wishbones I found the Ford fan would blow the fuse.

  5. The cooling spec and performance of my 2.1 Pinto is the same as Jen's, no ducting or additional vents but I do have exhaust wrap. I did have issues with air locks, which took some sorting, affecting high speed operation but slow speed overheating was down to a poor fan. Changing the old style down flow rad to the crossflow polo rad and a new fan cured all the issues, I also fitted an 82oC thermostat. Like Jen I do plan to fit ducting for improvements for track day use. Is the fan switching on ok and at the correct temp, is the motor ok and turning fast enough and in the correct direction? With regards to the exhaust wrap, it can reduce the under bonnet temps which does help protect the alternator and other items. It also can aid the exit of the exhaust gasses to optimise engine performance. Not had any issues or even heard of any problems when using it.

  6. Im 30 and owned mine a year, my dads had a couple which got me into them and i havent looked back since i got it even with plenty of grief that its given me. Notihing else for the money in my opinion gives you anywhere near the feeling of speed or driver involvement and enjoyment, makes cars that felt fast before feel like there towing a house.

  8. When I bought my Pinto it did exactly that. In my case it was because the builder (not me, sadly) had mounted the fan so that it sucked forwards through the rad where it should have either blown through from the front or sucked from behind. Once I corrected that and still had a slight overheat problem, I had the usual Pinto battle with air-locks. If you think you have an airlock - feel the hose and see if there's a cool one or the top hose into the rad is cool at the top half and hot underneath. Advice on bleeding is out there in the forums but if the search facility fails you there will be advice available. You do have a fan, don't you?

  12. Well done, you're really starting to develop a good eye for what makes great and interesting shots and just as importantly, picking them out and blending them into an entertaining sequence. It ain't easy and is a completely different skill set from simply working the equipment.

  17. Queensland Westfield Club says this - "In 2008, due to confusion between the Australian built Westfields and the imported UK built Westfields, the Australian manufacturer changed the name to Arrow Sports Cars". If the pictures on Arrow's website are current, though, then Arrow are using old-style body moulds. Westfield in the UK have been supplying tubs with detachable rear arches since the late '90s and the cars on Arrow's website don't have those. The Arrow ones also have the old style bonnet. You might find this useful.

  21. I'm 65, have owned 2 Westfields, first one was an old SEI 1700 xflow (should have kept it) , then had a GTM K3 for a while. Then came to my senses and have a 2002 SEIW zetec which I have owned for the last 11 years. Keep this one until I can't get in and out of it!! My Grandson thinks it's his anyway!!

  22. 72 years young and in love with my factory built 2015 FW SE which was a present to myself after giving bikes away following a 53 year riding stint - the Westie is my four wheel replacement. I'm loving it, it's absolutely brilliant!

  24. We have returned from our holiday and Glen's other favourite weather forecaster, the lovely Lucy Verasamy, seems to be making a right pigs ear of this Bank Holiday weather jobby. The good news is that we will be able to drive straight through Matlock Bath unhindered, so as we will be driving straight there we may as well meet up 1 hour later at 11.30 am, still at The Wheatsheaf. The beam engine operates from 1pm - 4.30pm so we can have a spot of lunch before going there. Russ, just press the central heating button , you work too hard to spend your weekends chopping wood when you have an amazing hobby sat in your garage. Although I can't blame you for coming in that luxurious Mazda this time.

  25. I'm 69, so I think MOTCO just beats me but no-one else, so far, on this thread in vintage years. Took delivery of my first factory built Westfield Sport on 4th. March 2008, but sold it last autumn. Took delivery of my Westfield XI kit at the beginning of February this year. Well, most of the kit that is. I'm calling to collect the outstanding items next Wednesday!

  29. Well it was 8am and 6oC with patches of drizzle to start off with but traffic was very light so it was a great early morning drive to the meeting point at Ollerton, especially so as my new heated gloves (birthday gift from Sue) were doing a good job of preventing numb fingers . Julie and Glen were already there with Russ when we arrived. After some refreshment and general discussion we decided to follow some of the GBS Zero cars we had spotted passing and head off to the GBS factory. Andrew and Claire were already there holding up the Westfielders tradition of getting stuck into the tea and biscuits! So it was even stevens with four Westfields and the same number of Zeros (not including those in the workshop) however the number of Zeros grew to more than a dozen with a smattering of Robin Hoods and a Tiger. There were some very good examples of the GBS Zero on display including this supercharged MX5 engined car. Also this Honda S2000 engined car. The tour of the workshop and machine shop were very interesting, the CNC machines were busy turning out brake calipers and damper components. We were surprised at the amount of parts that they manufacture on site, brakes, dampers, throttle bodies and all manner of general parts for the Zero. The chassis fabrication and fibreglass/carbon fibre parts are also manufactured by GBS. Overall it was a very interesting day and well worth the visit. We extended our thanks to the Staff at GBS for their welcome and of course the tea, coffee and biscuits! We all went our separate ways at around 12.30pm, leaving Sue and myself to uphold the Peak District honour by cruising back into Matlock Bath to park in amongst the bikes and get a spot of lunch. We then had a good run through Via Gellia, past the quarry and the Bentley Brook, down into Ashbourne and out to Ca**ington Water for tea and cake. After stopping at our daughters on the way home we headed out for the 30 minute run home to find my gloves had run out of heat though my hands did remain warm until we finally put the car back in the garage at around 10.15pm after a good Westfielding day
