Hi Tony, some of your responses to our posts (and Andy's) seem a little strange: BLiNK Motorsport can supply a range of dampers from different manufacturers and we have NO allegiances to any of them! At the price level you have chosen for your product we do particularly like the Protech product, not because we make a lot of money selling them but because we think the product offers extremely good value for money! We actually make very little profit selling the damper, especially since we dyno each one and provide damper plots with every unit sold. It seems strange that someone who is a director of a shock absorber company should accuse a reseller of having particular allegiances - surely you are more likely to have a strong bias towards YOUR OWN product? I think if you actually read the thread again you would see that at no point has anyone offered any resistance to your product - quite the contrary - if your product is good we would be more than happy to promote it - hence the earlier offer of providing an independent view point. As I said - we make very little profit on dampers so we are not tied to one company; we sell what products we believe are best at that price point and would more than happily recommend/sell your products if that was the case - name branding has no effect on our choice. The above quote was in response to Andy's post about the set-up we did on his car. We supplied the dampers/springs for Andy's car and we then carried out a Geo. From your response it would appear that you have assumed the car has been set 'quite stiff' You have provided some dyno plots for your dampers and I am sure you are well aware that damping rates have a large effect on 'ride comfort', far more than the spring rates do and the product you are selling is aimed at road use? The high speed compression damping rate of your damper is considerably higher than the Protech unit we supply and the compression damping forces are double - this would generally lead to a much harsher ride on the road than the Protech damper with the same springs fitted - do not assume that all race engineers set their cars up stiff! We are not here to 'bash' your product; we would love to promote it if it's better than the competition.

  2. Golly, where do I start, there has not been a dull moment today. We will start with a thank you to everyone who came today because I think you all found reasons why you can (turn up) rather than excuses why you can't. I like that, it is commendable. It was a quick run round with fleeting visits, manic really. Now, I think we will have a picture next, and then it is story time - don't panic Martyn. The Wheatsheaf Ben/Nat also managed to join us for breakfast at The Wheatsheaf in the tin top to discuss the broken throttle cable. Glen had a spare one amongst his arsenal of tools in my car so after a quick bite to eat Ben/Nat wizzed off with it to fix the Westfield and would meet us later for lunch. Martyn/Sue followed us through Holymoorside to go and sample the delights of Slack Hill. Slack Hill is a great big hill that splits into 2 lanes just at the right moment, much fun. On the way there I can only describe it on this public forum as shocking driving from the Corsa man and an excellent response from Martyn. Me, I was watching, open mouthed, in my rear view mirror whilst giving Glen a running commentary. After a pose through Matlock Bath we went up the Via Gellia road, oh joy, it was like driving a different car. We had warm, dry tarmac and the tyres actually felt like they were sticking to the road for the first time since last October. We arrived at The Bentley Brooke and met Ian and Pat, shortly after Ben/Nat arrived in their Westfield. Ian talked us through the winter upgrades which all seem to have been successful, he knows how to treat a lady, Pat now has a heater and a harness that doesn't slope off her shoulders. After being suitably refreshed Martyn/Sue and Ian/Pat had to make a quick exit. We went in the opposite direction with Ben/Nat to Parsley Hay Cycle Hire Shop, for another throttle cable, don't ask. Ben's car looks great and sounds great and it is lovely to listen to the enthusiasm of a new owner. You will learn so much, Ben, I knew nothing 2 years ago, I know a lot more now but there is so much to learn, imagine what building one is like, mucho respecto to the builders. And that was that, did you keep up? Good, now it's picture time. The Bentley Brooke Have a drool over these seats of Ian's. We couldn't work out if the blanket is a booster seat for Ian or to keep Pat warm It was nice that the cold air didn't eat your face off and that there was not even a threat of rain, I love spring. It is coming up to a very busy time so here is a quick run down of what is happening next. Sat 19th March - GBS cars and coffee Easter Monday 28th March - Middleton Top beam engine is running Sat 2 April - Oil Can Cafe Sun 3rd April - Thunder Day, Elvington with Geoffrey and Buttercup Thurs 7th April - Peak District Area visit the Derby/Notts meet at The Clock Sat 9th or Sun 10th April - Cave Dale, Castleton, another Hidden Road that Glen/Julie have found. Keep up!

  3. WHAT A DAY Left Inverness at 3:45am, arrived at the lads at 10:15. The second I spotted the car on the drive I feel in love with it. The bit I was worrying about was sitting in it, jamp in and even have a wee bit of room to play with, VERY comfy so was delighted. He took me a run in it and it has made me realise I have wasted so much money messing about with cars when I should of had one of these. The smell, handling, noise is immense. The induction sound off the carbs is mad. Car has EVERY receipt from when it was built, including the build manuals, photos of it just finished ect ect. So I bought it, loaded it up and made for home along with 4 13" wheels with NEW tyres, 4 13" tarmac tyres for trackdays and a massive box of spares, (brakes, pads, starter, alternator, bushes, wet weather cover ect ect Car doesn't idle well and also has a wee flat spot at 2500-2600 like a splutter, needs set up (we have a specialist quite local who I will get to set this up) Got back to Inverness at 5:45 tonight, unloaded it, insured it, taxed it then got the wife in it and went a wee 10minute run, then me and my mate went a run. What a bl**** buzz. Words cant describe how much fun it is. Well I need to go to bed now as off to Edinburgh for the Scotland game tomorrow then Aberdeen to fly to New York for my birthday. I'm "buzzing" hahaha like a big kid. LOVE IT

  4. I had a run out to the Northern Cobra Club meet today and came up with the idea of getting us together for a run. So, meet at Emley Moor Mast at 10:30, run down to The Strines to meet Julie and the Peak District crew at 11:30, then back up to The Carding Shed for coffee and cake. We can pick up, drop off or deviate the route as required.

  10. The problem is that as all investments are rubbish people are looking for somewhere to put money. In the Mail today in the investment section there is a piece on buying classic cars as a means of making money. What this means as the top end goes crazy, people pile onto the bandwagon forcing prices for what is, lets face it, rubbish ordinary cars to stupid levels. So people then take rusty shells for £2k on an Escort and steal a car to ring, or strip knowing that they can make a fortune and that unless caught in the act, are unlikely to be chased. The police haven't the man power to chase these up and frankly they will target the high end operators not the low end. It is heart breaking to lose something you cherish which is why we all must question where we buy things from.

  17. And i Think Colin, what you have pointed out there, regarding Stubby filter and the 3/4 UNF is where I came unstuck. Being as though QED are literally only 15 mins down the road, I'd took all my QED build history in with me and purchased a UFI 23 118 00 filter for my next oil change. It managed to stay on for 400 miles until it blew off! I did feel that with all my QED history in front of them and my "projected Rookie faith" in them that they could of double checked which filter they sold me.........but hey I've obviously got to take some of the responsibility, and luckily it wasn't to my cost! All summed up in my thread at the time "Oil Filter Just came off" So...er Ali....Gail, basically don't make that mistake.

The shortest M18 x 1.5 filter I could find was the Mahle OC242 (at 73.5mm high) - Opie Oils usually best place for Mahle filters For the brake fluid - I use Comma DOT 5.1 as I have 4 pot front brakes (5.1 is compatible with DOT 4) - but DOT 4 would be ok for most road use (note - don't confuse DOT 5.1 with DOT 5 - DOT 5 is SILICONE and NOT compatible with anything other than silicone !!) . edited: - the short "stubby" oil filter used by the likes of SBD is a Bosch P3141 (or equivalent here http://www.oilfilter-crossreference.com/convert/BOSCH/P3141) - note that this oil filter is 3/4 UNF thread and if fitted will have had an M18 to 3/4 UNF adapter fitted (so you need to be sure if you have an M18 or 3/4 UNF thread)

  19. it's possible I don't have fouling issues on my XE compared to some.....but the filters I know fit are the Halfords one I have on at the moment (HOF201) or a Mann Filter (W712/22) Screw on dimension M18 x 1.5mm thread.
