  1. With a forecast of heavy rain all day in the Peak District it was clear that there was no chance of getting the Westie out today. So one employed one's chauffeur and went on a reconnaissance mission. We found planes, trains and automobiles, plus a canal, something for everyone really. The key feature was the road out of the area though. We went to the Churnet Valley Railway, Staffordshire, to Froghall Station(excellent name don't you think?) and as Glen approached it downhill there was a sign saying 'escape lane', ooh this could be an interesting road on the way back! Well it was. On exit of our visit it was quite steep, uphill, quite twisty and on a national speed limit road, we are definitely coming here in the Westie. We met a cute little fella in the car park, a Morris Commercial GPO van. We had a walk around the Victorian train station before sampling the real fire and fresh cakes in the cafe (pie and peas also available). Just in time for the steam train to arrive, I never tire of the smell and the feel of it's power as it sets off, brill. Feeling all proud to be British we went to Cheddleton station, through speed camera land, there were about 10 in total, no exaggeration. Another Victorian station and a canal along side it. Time for the best bit, the drive back, up Froghall hill and then diverting right along a scenic high road via Ellastone which conveniently landed us right next to Darley Moor Airfield and Road Racing Circuit (just for you Martyn and Sue). It was closed today, probably due to the weather. I reckon this would make a fantastic day out with a group of Westfields, so with the next 'steam' day being 24th January I am off to do a sun dance and we will see if we can make it happen. Sit here next to the real fire Eat these, no January diet allowed Say hi to the cutey If only pictures had aromas The canal The Victorian station And a 1 minute video https://youtu.be/WiYhcpblXxA Look in the 'Events' section if you want to come along with us next time and pray for better weather than today.

  3. Hi everyone, my first post to introduce myself as an expectant Westfield owner - I'm picking up my FW full kit in a couple of weeks. Over the last 10 years I've had pleasure of owning, driving, repairing, touring, repairing, and mostly just loving my 1972 Lotus Elan Plus 2S 130. I thought I would never part with her, but having heard about the enjoyment a friend of mine had building a Westfield, and then a Caterham, the idea of doing something similar caught. It has sparked my son’s interest too, he researched lots of kits, and wants to build a car with me - no greater motivation required! My Dad, David, passed away in April. He was an electronics engineer and extremley competent DIY enthusiast, and together we took on all sorts of projects. My first automotive repair experience was fixing the rear brakes on a mini. He was happiest when designing or making something, and nothing would have stopped him from joining in. We wanted a name for the project and the car, and it was my son who suggested we call it “the David”. Having sold my Lotus to raise the funds and make some space I’m now clearing up the garage. In a tradition I’ve seen elsewhere on this forum I’m starting by borrowing my friends Westfield Build stands. So… my first question. How do I start a build blog thread? Martin.

  7. 2. If you fit runners, you will raise the seat. How many people will drive the car regularly? Can you get away with cushions for any irregular drivers? 3. Sounds stupid, but is the wheel on properly? The RaceTech one for example has two grooves in the boss, one where the wheel is meant to be and a second one further up (I can only assume as a 'just in case'). The wheel has loads of play in one, but not the other. One of the cars I bought had an issue where the wheel wouldn't quite make the second groove... Worth a look! 4. Have you tested the range of your tank yet? Worth doing before changing... 5. Look at making a small extender to your screen from lexan, it's cheap off eBay, then you'll know exactly what height you need when it comes to the real thing.

  8. Narrow and wide tanks are different. A wide tank won't fit in a narrow chassis. Why not see how much of an issue range actually is on track first? On the road I typically fill up every 100 miles or so, but this would be much much more often on track. A huge tank when full is going to put a lot of extra weight at the back of the car, behind the rear wheels. Might this change the handling on track between full and empty? Plenty of track focused cars use the standard 5 gallon tank. As Sooty says, just get out there and drive. Your list of issues to fix at the end of the season will almost certainly be different from what they are now. Jen
