  1. Meet at MacDonalds on junction 30 of the M1 and follow me for the 10 minute journey to my place of work where I have access to the weighbridge. You can weigh your car and have a print out of it's weight. 10am Saturday 12th December. Cars on trailers welcome, as are exotic non-Westfields. Who is coming?

  2. 3 years ago I drove from my house (sywell) to silverstone at 10 am and was in the paddock in 31 minutes. have a look at sywell aerodrome and hotel and perhaps have a helicopter transfer? quite reasonable if you wanted to treat the kids :-)

  4. I reckon mine does Recently I received the Demon Tweeks catalogue in the post and was busy thumbing through it when the wife glances over. "More upgrades hun?" "Yes, well, no - just browsing really - but there's always upgrades (smiles)" I then spot a set of Omex Throttle Bodies and coo admiringly at the page. "What are they then" So I explain and spell out the cost of a full ITB upgrade including new ECU and mapping. "And what does that get you in terms of performance/driveability/VFM" says the wife. "Well, to be honest, as I already have a throttle body set up, I won’t actually gain any more power etc, but they are very nice - and maybe easier to tune than the GSXR setup I currently have” says I “Oh” she says. “Now, I get the new £900 engine - that will be reliable and you are off to the Alps next year after all - and I get the new silly money gearbox as that will make your car more drivable and you will obviously get more enjoyment out of it - which is what it is all about...” “But” she says “those other things? Perhaps they should be classed as 'upgrades you don't tell your wife about' “ I love my wife

  6. Well. I don't know if is the place, but, have not found any other propper place to share the video. Have been a very special weekend for me. In my better dreams, was completely impossible that after selling my race car and my trailer in spain, and leaving all my life in spain... in three months in the country, i would have a new car, a trailer, and trackdays and fun. Of course, was a very warm welcome to the british style. Anglesey... Cold, Wet and Windy. (very windy). I want to share with you my first experiences with my westy. The video, maybe is a bit boring at the beguining (first laps) and seems a little out of control in the end (some sideways and too much oversteer) but, please, be considered with me. New track, very low experience in wet, new car, and most important... IM DRIVING IN THE WRONG SIDE of the car... (my dialy is a proper european bimmer with the stering wheel and the gearstik in the proper place). So... enjoy...

  8. New foam seal screwed down is not water tight enough. As a screw is tightened the flimsy fibreglass cover bows up where there is no screw. When it ever stops raining and the foam dries out we will add a small run of silicone sealant. As an extra measure we might add a strip of aluminium to beef up the area and allow the screws to tighten the cover down better. For now it's a wet foot again tomorrow. I mean wet, as in ring your sock out, a little soggyness I could live with. P.S Steve, I have stuck the carpet down with velcro, so today it was easy just to whip the carpet out and stand it in the garage to drain

  9. A big box arrived today, I'm home first and collect it from a neighbours house, my wife comes in a couple of minutes later, "Oh, been buying yourself something?" "No, it's that stuff you ordered from Amazon"

  10. What deeply amuses me is how your wife understands you, but you clearly don't understand her. If she says there are upgrades you shouldn't tell her about, you have failed to realise you've just given her license to buy things she doesn't have to tell you about either. I believe you've been played like a fiddle.

  11. Not loads to report this time, but have made some bits of progress. Done a bit more chassis 'design' (loose term - I'm pretty much just adding triangles everywhere I can and getting them to terminate at the same locations where possible!) and chucked it through the weight calculator on the software - coming out around 78kg at the moment, so should be under 100kg for chassis, wishbones and dampers which is reasonable I think. Not light, but should be stiff and durable. From here I think the whole car should end up around 450kg - we'll see! There has been one major design feature addition to the design which is a bit Marmite... I'm struggling with the aesthetics a little at the moment, but mechanically it makes a lot of sense. it increases the second moment of area massively and also provides some side impact protection - you can't miss it on the images below The inspiration for this came from a similar build based in Croatia, where the chap had these side 'pods' and then added a few bits of extra bracing - in his software just two tubes increased the torsional stiffness off the chassis HUGELY: http://locostusa.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=90171#p90171 - interesting stuff... Other than that, had a comedy parcel through: It's a titanium manifold from the standard bike - £75, bargain! However, looks like it may not fit with the billet sump I will try and find a way around this as it's a very nice piece of kit and super light. Also sent my diff off to be converted - starting weight (with output shafts) 24kg, after stripping down to only the required parts: 6kg. Should be under 10kg once all converted as in the second picture. Had intended to do this myself but for the price I decided to let someone with a more manly lathe tackle it, then I could expend the time / energy elsewhere. After getting some drawings from the diff chap I have found out that clearance between the engine and OS of the chassis is VERY tight - I may need to shift the diff over a touch and pray that the CV joints stay connected. I'm hoping 10-15mm should do the job so fingers crossed... I think the engine (and therefore diff) will also need to go up a touch, not ideal for CoG but if it doesn't all fit together it's not a lot of use!
