Westfield Sportscars is pleased to announce that it will be collaborating with The Boeing Company and Universities in the UK, USA and China on the use of Microlattice in its future sports cars. Westfield have recently been awarded some Niche Vehicle Network funding to investigate the potential uses of it in the Niche Vehicle Sector. On 6th October 2015 The Boeing Company announced to the world they had created the worlds lightest material, Microlattice. Current plans are to use it in non structural parts of the aircraft, providing a large weight reduction. Microlattice is a synthetic porous metallic material consisting of an ultra light metal foam. It has a density of 0.9mg/cm3 being the lowest value of any know solid. It is one of the lightest structural materials known to science comparing against silica gels at 1.0mg/cm3. Voted as one of the top ten world innovations, 100% lighter than Styrofoam and being 99.99% hollow it can sit on top of a dandelion! Westfield are looking to use Microlattice in the vehicle to complement its already ultra lightweight philosophy. Julian Turner Chief Executive Officer said, “Due to the space constraints of our vehicles we have to innovate with materials and technology to enhance the products for our customers. We are very excited to be working with Microlattice as a complementary material in the vehicle. Microlattice has very different material properties to Carbon which is glass like in its structure so we are very excited to be given the opportunity to work on the project – This material is a game changer for our vehicles.” ENDS Notes to Editor: Westfield Sportscars Limited is one of the UK's leading hand built sports car manufacturers that is British owned and family run. We made our way to Ilam Hall, we were not allowed a photo shoot there today because of the scaffolding on it so we parked on the road and walked over to the cafe. We had a little cow poo competition as usual, and the winner today was.....wait for it.....Martyn and Sue, well done, Ilam After lunch we went to Tissington Hall for a photo. This entails blocking the entrance, which is not normally a problem, but today the Hall was occupied. Just as we were all getting in position a rather expensive looking Range Rover came out of the Hall. 'Oh crumbs' I thought, we will get told off for this, play it cool Julie, smile a lot and apologise profusely, you might get away with it. A lovely posh lady and her mum were delighted to see the cars and, get this one, apologised for being in the photo, how nice were they I ask you? Bioman did a nifty bit of manouvering and she went on her way, leaving me to get the photo. Me, yes me, it was decided that there was no point us all getting wet when just one person could, mmm, right, I will let you all off with that one. We then went to the Bentley Brooke Inn at Ashbourne for a warm and a dry by the real fire (picture please Bioman) before beating the fading light home. Thank you everyone for coming today, you are all amazing and very good fun. If little girls like Brooke (see cow poo picture) can Westfield on rainy days then surely all you big boys can too.1 point

This Westfielding in the rain, it must be good because we keep doing it. Still, it beats salty, snowy roads any day. A fairly short route today and not a fast one, appropriate to the road conditions at this time of year, we still had a few fast hills on selected bits and Martyn still managed a bit of drifting in Russ's absence. Glen and I set off and basically got gassed, we had not even got to The Wheatsheaf at this point. Yesterday Glen had wrapped my exhaust and bought the engine up to temperature once to clear the smoke. So when it got hot today it carried on fuming, only we had the roof on, cough, cough, good job it is well ventilated. Martyn and Sue are normally last to arrive (because of the very long journey I might add), but today they were already there, parked up with no roof on as it was not raining yet. Glen and I arrived at the same time as Rickyboy and Brooke, and Bioman and Baby bio. By the time we had all walked down to the Wheatsheaf we had decided Martyn and Sue must have stayed the night to be here already, plus we should tell them it was chucking it down with rain, even though it wasn't, and watch the panic on their face as they realise they have no roof on. It was going to be a naughty day. The Wheatsheaf After a catch up and an apology to Babybio(James) for all the car talk, there is a lot of it, we set off for fuel and the tunnel. Glen was very kind and stood in the rain to take photo's and film, thank you. Martyn's tunnel Rickyboy's tunnel, not going fast there were you? Here's a tip for you, visit the garages selling part worn tyres and find the outlets that sell the German cast offs, Germany don't use them once down to 6mm! You find these places are full of top brands at a fraction of the price of the super expensive winters.1 point

Well it was a brilliant drive back, the motorway was dull as usual but I got stuck in traffic and the needle crept Upton 100 then down again, then the rain. I've since purchased wet weather gear as I have a new respect for bikers, I also have a new fear of lorries Thank you Pete she is a beautiful motor and not tucked up until I can use her again, I cannot wait! I'm very glad I waited for a V8 and what an example! I've a few things to do on the car when I get a chance and I'll try to meet up with some of the people on here over the coming months, as many as possible I hope Thank you for all the suggestions and ideas folks I'm a very very proud westy owner now Tom1 point

The solution for my last play car, a reliant scimitar was to ensure the holes in the bottom where bigger than the ones in the top. With a car with no roof I might need to reconsider that solution.1 point
