  2. In truthfulness rather than jest, I do tend to display the nicer ones - the WSCC ones are particularly nice and always have been. I also get excited about the annual WSCC awards doo and have done since I first began. Its usually a great evening. A pet hate of mine (although I have become guilty myself once or twice) is when people cannot be bothered to stay until the end of an event and collect their trophies as this adds burden to the organisers to find a way to get it to them and shows some disrespect IMO to the event, organisers and fellow competitors which grates me. The only times I have left early is at Pembrey before the top 12 runoff which drags on if you are not involved and they open the gates to let you out across the track before it commences and at Llys Y Fran and the last Anglesey on the Sunday this year with a long drive ahead to get home. On these few occasions I did send my apologies to the organisers before leaving. I still have boxes full in the attic though I went to Jersey on holiday in September and visited the Nigel Mansell museum and all of his trophies right from when he started karting were on display. I best keep mine in case I become famous and have my own museum....

  3. Well here's my perspective, for what it's worth - this is my first season of competing and I am ridiculously excited about the awards do on Saturday, partly because it is so fondly talked of within the club (online and at meets), partly because I get to see all the great people I've met this year again, and partly because I came third in class B - and that means an award! An award that will be treasured and displayed proudly in a new trophy cabinet (old DVD cabinet! ) alongside my second in class trophy from Blyton and my best novice trophy from three sisters. I'm very, very proud of those, and of anything else that may come my way in the future. The best novice trophy was a cut glass tumbler, which I now use for a particularly tasty ale, port, whiskey etc on special occasions, and i love it! While I fully appreciate that others may get tired of trophies after years of success, I know that will never be me. My dad was the same - he still has all his trophies from karting, golf, sports as a youngster etc on display and part of the reason I'm doing this is to emulate him. I loved staring up at his collection of trophies, accomplishments and achievements, thinking my dad's the greatest, and I want to have some treasures like that for my time on earth too. So for me, please keep the trophies going - they mean a lot to me personally and I know to many others too.

  4. I have all my trophies on "The Windowsill of Glory" which I walk past every day, and it makes me smile inside, plus a selected few in the living room. The windowsill is a bit crowded so I am planning to put some shelves up in the stairwell. The awards do mean a lot - not just the trophy itself, but the presentation at the end of an event and enjoying the approbation of your peers. I make a point of staying for every one, even if I've not won an award, to applaud those who have. In 10 years of sprinting I've missed only one, this year, to repair my car for the next day at a different event and it killed me to do so. That said, I'm not trying to make others feel guilty about not staying for the awards for whatever reason - just saying that I get almost as much pleasure from watching others collect their trophies as I do from getting one myself. And I treasure each and every one.

  5. Agree Barny IMO they're important memories not to be forgotten. I still have all my past meddles/awards/trophies and they're all treasures.

  7. This is one of the saddest threads I've read in a while, for reasons I won't discuss because it will probably just get people's backs up. However, much care, time and thought goes into the selection and production of the awards trophies - it isn't just a case of going into a trophy shop and saying "screw 'em, that'll do". The great trophies, the splendid awards night event, the addition of the winners podium and professional photos last year and a surprise addition this year which we hope you'll like (and not stick forgotten into a box) are all done not because the team HAS to do it, but because they WANT to make you proud and happy of your accomplishments. The thought that it doesn't mean anything to some people any more or that the trophies are consigned to attics and dusty cupboards for whatever reason either depresses or angers me, I'm not sure which, because in a way it unintentionally belittles the hard work and efforts of the organisers who get no reward apart from the reactions of the competitors. Not having a go at anyone at all, once a trophy is yours you can do what you like with it, but please remember the great people behind it all - I certainly do and appreciate all they do, as I'm sure do you.

  8. Hello Team As some of you will be aware I have taken on the post of North Yorkshire AO. I have another thread running regarding a Christmas get-together and I have copied this below. If you can make it, I would like this to be an opportunity where you can meet myself and Carol and we can discuss future plans. I would love to know what people within the area love to do and they sort of places that they like to go so that we can build on this together for the future. Myself personally, I would love to see more partners in the cars as over the past year or so whilst I have organised days out, a lot of the drivers have been on their own and I think it is a shame at times. [perhaps this is what the drivers want]. I also like to "do things", so I also would like to encourage drives out where we go to do something fun, Go Ape perhaps, or places like Big-Fun in Hull where we can behave like children. We are also more than happy to head for somewhere, have a cuppa tea and a chat and drive home. the main thing is that we enjoy what we are doing. I am willing to try new things and really would like everyone's help within the area to build this into a great Westfield area. Anyway please have a read below of my thread that I have copied and pasted and it would be brilliant if you can make it. PLEASE NOTE. You do not have to come in your Westfield. Bus, coach, taxi or shankseys pony is all good. On Saturday 5th December I propose that we all try to get together in the afternoon in Scarborough. We get something to eat, then go for a game of bowling followed by a hour or so in the amusements and a trip into Terror Tower and then to round it all off a lemon-top ice cream from Jaconelli's. You do not have to go into Terror Tower if you do not wish too. I propose Wetherspoons to eat as its cheap and cheerful with a good choice and there is a bit of an atmosphere unless someone would like to suggest anywhere else. This is not a day out in the Westfields but we can travel in tintops and park locally and I think it would just be a nice social gathering to get together and just basically have a nice time out. Would anyone care to partake in this Christmas get together. Children are welcome too. http://m.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/food http://www.terrortower.co.uk/ http://www.olympiasc....co.uk/bowling/

  9. Hello All. I was asked a while ago if I would be interested in the post of AO and I accepted a couple of days ago. I have organised two events within East Yorkshire prior to Christmas. The first is a winter picnic and here is a link to the post within the WSCC forum. http://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic/116437-early-christmas-dinner-drive-out-winter-picnic-saturday-21st-november/ The second event is to allow us all to get together and have something to eat followed by a game of bowling, a visit to Terror Towers, an hour or so in the amusements followed by a lemontop ice-cream to round off the afternoon. This would not involve driving out in our Westfield cars but would be a great chance for husbands, wives and children to have a nice few hours out. Here is a link to the post within the WSCC forum. http://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic/116517-east-yorks-xmas-meal-bowling-amusements-and-lemon-tops/ During the past year or so, I have organised a number of drives out and a number of people have stated that it is nice to have someone who is willing to organise excursions out because at present there is no-one within the area who organises any events. I will be honest and say that racing and going fast does not appeal but drives out to scenic places is my kind of thing. I would like to build on this and hopefully involve more "partners" as most of the drivers are usually on their own. I am not in a position to have a monthly meet in a pub but I am in a position to organise lots of lovely drives out with good stops for food and refreshment, this will also provide lots of opportunities for a natter. I do drive my Westfield all year round and spend a lot of time on the North Yorkshire Moors or in the Yorkshire Dales and I feel that this is something that can be built upon. I am looking forward to this opportunity and I am already looking forward to a good year ahead.

  12. The most up to date weather report says.......we gonna get wet. The initial meeting point has no cover or refreshment, so it's a quick pee then it's only a 10 min drive to our first event. We need to be in position for about 11am. Food and drink are available here. After that it is 20 miles to the next event. We can get lunch at this next place but as an extra only 2 minutes around the corner are freshly baked cakes in a pretty cafe. From there the day can be juggled depending on the weather. It can be as long or short as you make it but it is only 20 miles back to Matlock, hence my estimation that we will be done by 3pm. It all depends how much talking and eating you lot do, and lets face you are pretty good at both. I am really looking forward to it, the roof is on, the heater vents to feet are shut and the winter woollies are nowhere in sight.

  13. I like the tag line " great condition pre accident" Here's another car that was in "great condition pre accident " http://metrouk2.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/article-1302713510648-0b9b6dbc00000578-676246_636x420.jpg

  14. Scott I feel you have missed my point somewhat. This is NOT about the annual awards do where clearly a lot if effort and thought goes into the awards, and if I was lucky enough to win one it would take pride of place in my living room. The quality of the awards last year was exceptional and I've no doubt this year will be the same. Neither is it a go at ANY of the efforts of the organisers of the awards do or for that matter the events themselves. I was lucky enough to be part of the SSOT a few seasons ago so I have some insight as to what's involved. I still display the trophies I won in my first full season and I'm proud of them. They probably mean the most to me and winning a nice trophy in my first few seasons encouraged me to carry on sprinting and get more involved, and I understand why some folk would still want a traditional trophy. As others have mentioned my pet hate is people who leave before the awards presentation as I think it shows a bit of disrespect to the volunteers who have organised the event.. However as John has said it can get to the point where there either simply isn't room to display them or SWMBO put their foot down and say enough is enough. I simply started this thread to discuss whether for the in season events (and not just the wscc events) whether the clubs could offer an alternative to glassware for something that may get used rather than end up in a box. If for example mugs were presented I would likely use it every day at home, have a couple in the motorhome, have one at work etc and it would remind me of the event whenever I used it. I too think its a shame that many of the trophies awarded end up in a box instead of bring used or displayed.

  17. most of mine are in the front room display cabinet ,but run out of room now so some have been removed only because of space . like others have said its good for fond memories of good battles. best ones always come from wscc. and looking forward to getting more in future if possible. I also always try and stay for awards at end of event apart from the real distance events for me like Anglesey. otherwise I would not get home till after midnight.

  18. All my awards are on a shelf in the kitchen/breakfast room, in fact they are within sight as I type this! I'm proud of them, and want to see them. Plaques are at the basck of the shelf, with glasses tankards etc. in front. I usually use one of the glasses for my nightcap! I do mean trophies, mugs for entering are in the kitchen mug cupboard, and tend to be used if I want a mug of coffee in the garage or garden, or for giving trades people a mug of coffee or tea in!

  24. Sad as it may be but I too have boxes of trophies in the loft that will never see the light of day again and Most of this years are still in their boxes in the motorhome. Mrs L vets them first before they are allowed in the house Maybe Mrs L needs to go in the loft John (Yes, that's how brave I am!!)
