Meet at The Artist Corner Car Park, Matlock, DE4 3PS at 10.30 am on Saturday 14th November. It is a large car park with toilets at one end, on the A6 between Matlock and Matlock Bath, there are big yellow 40 mph speed cameras on the road at the car park entrance. Where are we going? he, he, you will have to follow me to find out, but it is not far and involves very big engines. There is a lovely cafe with views and lots of cake at the half way point. We have been scouting today and it is good. We will finish back at Matlock at 3pm. If the weather gets forecast to be fairer on Sunday (15th) it might be better to push this on a day, so keep an eye on the forum later next week. Just to let you know, the following weekend (21 and 22 Nov) I will not be organising anything as we are going to be doing 100 mph with my new Tiger Owner friends that I made last week. Not on the road, in the air, we are going to Zip World Velocity, I will let you google that one, can't wait though! better get the roof out again. Hope to see some of you next weekend Julie1 point

In 2015 a few of us (Tim, Rich, Marto, Graham and myself plus a support team) ventured to France for the St Guoeno Hill climb at the end of May 2015. Travel there on the Thursday and come back on the Monday. It follows the standard practice on Saturday and compete on Sunday format so is possible to reduce the time away but you would be missing out on a lot of the fun. Marto's blog is here Event website here We all enjoyed it so much that we plan to go again next year. The organisers have decided to reduce the number of entries in 2016 so there will be a rush for an entry as soon as the entries open. The regulations and entry forms will be out soon, they are just trying to agree the date with the French Hillclimb Association. It will be either the 28/29 May or 4/5 June. It would be good to get more there from the WSCC, competing or spectating, so I have started this topic so that people can lodge their interest and post the link to the entries page just as soon as it is published.1 point

I had this car around 13-14 years ago. Red, with swept wings - Ford 1760 crossflow etc. Does anyone own this car now, or know who does? Just interested really - having just bought my 2nd, it made me think about this one......1 point

For what it's worth, I have a similar power 2.0 zetec with a Quaife 3.92 LSD and a BGH E3 HD with 0.87 5th gear and the BGH shift extension. No problems with the gearbox over 6000 miles including a fair few trackdays so far (touch wood)...1 point

Similar choice i had 15 years ago when building the car i have just stripped, built it with zetec rather than pinto - good choice, with 3.64 LSD from cosworth - good choice, Mt75 box - not so good now ! The reason was that when i was a young sevice engineer with a company supplied sierra with the cvh / type 9, every car in the fleet seems to have sycro issues,on the gearbox after 50K - they seemed to me at the time to be a weak box so when building the westy went for the 75. Its been bomb proof over the last 8K / 15 years and for the road and when out of 1st its actually not a bad compromise but if your using it for track work the spread of ratio's mean i'd go for something else. RWD do a toyota box, but i think the ratios are simliar to MT75. MX5 box goes with a duratec - but not sure anyones doing an adapter for the zetec. The type 9 I have for sale was build after i studied the gearing calculations with the above setup (15" wheels) As i was turned over by a breaker wrt MK3.5 mx5 mzr / duratec engine which turned out to be a mk3 without the forged bottom end, i decided after reading all the build threads & i have to say the excellent advice provided to others from Dave Eastwood, bite the bullet and go the s2000 route.1 point

The gearbox, with an appropriate set of ratios is potentially about the single biggest upgrade you can make. No if's, no but's, owners, even the most doubtful have proven it to themselves time after time. But, the box is just part of the driveline, which also includes the diff - or to be precise, the ratio of diff you've got, the wheels, as in they're overall diameter, tyres included, and lastly the engine, as in what does it Rev to, in particular what revs for peak power, how wide is the power band and how big a drop in rpm when changing gear is OK. Lastly, your own personal preferences will play a part, as well, most importantly, as how you're going to use it. No competition use and just occasional track day use means at a stroke, (I'd suggest), you can cross off all the Straight cut boxes. This immediately drops the vast range of ratios to look at down considerably. BGH's range would all be normal help boxes, SPC have heli and semi heli boxes, as well as one or two others. The next step, apart from having a look to see what models people have been happy with, is to download one of the online ratio calculators and start popping in the BGH etc ratios with your diff and wheel sizes etc to see what sort of differences it would make. Be aware you might have to also change diff ratio, depending what it currently is, for best results.1 point

Something I definitely would like to enter, but definitely will not be able to next year. BUT will definitely look at option to come down and spectate if doesn't clash with other activities.1 point
