I appear to have secured my First Westfield, not going to reveal which one at present as I want to hand over the cash and have a key in my hand. All I can say is I'm excited to start a new chapter on my big boys toys journey.4 points

Does anyone actually enjoy listening to this idiot? He's so far past his prime its untrue. He's just not funny anymore. Repeating the same old "serious jocking" crap day after day. Tedium at its worst.1 point

Hi all, I bought a 2002 XE powered SEIW earlier this year as a personal distraction to the usual stresses of work, kids and recent house move (renovation project!). In fact the house move was a motivator - we moved to Harpenden in January (I say we, my wife conveniently decided to spend a week in NY with work while I moved house with our 2x kids single handedly!) and a major driver for finding a Westfield was the fact our new house has a decent sized double garage and pit! In fact the previous owner was building a full sized kit aeroplane in the garage when we looked around it! Another factor was that I am a big fan of track days and a mate of mine had just taken delivery of a Caterham Supersport R kit and he was cracking on with his build... So onto the car I bought, it is a 2002 year SEIW chassis with normal track front end that was recently converted from a Pinto engine to an ex Formula Vauxhall Lotus c20xe built by Swindon Race Engines. This meant it also had the dry sump kit used in that series and a fairly aggressive 7.25" flywheel and AP race clutch setup. While it has AP brakes on the front, they are the old Austin Princess anchors (quite literally when you feel the weight of them!) but they do a good job at the moment. My first port of call was Northampton Motorsport to investigate an increasingly loud noise on the overrun from gearbox/bellhousing area and also to give the car a once over. I also wanted to convert from the original DCOE 45s to throttle bodies and mappable ECU so having received the news from NMS that the gearbox all looked ok decided to go straight ahead with the new Omex throttle bodies and 600 series ECU - final result was a respectable 196bhp which I am very happy with. Unfortunately the noise on the overrun persists though and I will get a new thread started in tech talk on that... Plans for the car are to use it 50:50 road/track although as I work from home the temptation for lunch time blats gets the better of me when the weather is nice so this may become 70:30 road/track. I have also done several road trips in previous cars around the top of Scotland, Wales and also through Europe (Nurburgring etc) so hopefully I will be joining in on some of the organised events arranged on here. And finally a picture of the car as of the bank holiday weekend: Engine and box out to investigate the overrun noise and get a more road suited clutch installed... I've never done anything like this before but decided to crack on and have a go! I am sure I will have questions to follow1 point

http://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic/93128-javelin-track-day-discount/ Majority of my track days have been the day before Sprints, no issues. And last year drove to and from most sprints as well. I do change up well before rev limit on track days. But then mine's not a thoroughbred, only a modest 'Lardy Car'. It did over 300 miles week before Curborough without blinking a headlight!1 point

I was up around Leyburn on Saturday in my Westfield, you could have come with us. And just got home from a couple of days near Masham with some friends, we came home through Leyburn and Bedale.1 point

Yep, you can run an aeroscreen without wearing a helmet, but that's one hell of a risk to take and I don't know anyone who would. Helmets are fine of course, but SWMBO has to be a pretty good sport to get out the other end of a trip with hair like a troll. Half doors with the wind deflectors are well spoken of as an alternative. Finally, and this may sound obvious, is the passenger seat all the way back against the rear bulkhead? If it's on runners, bringing it forward somewhat might change the dynamics just enough to work.1 point

Julie, Have fun in Wales, great roads. A few of the guys on this run were in North Wales three weeks ago with a local guide, we had an absolute blast. Shame you won't be able to join us, looking like 20+cars will be on the run which is about as many as I can cope with. See you soon Ian1 point

As stated, it's an open topped car and you're always going to get buffeting. The windscreen cutting through the air creates a low pressure zone in the cab, and as nature abhors a vacuum, the air rushes in from behind to fill the low pressure area, which is why you get buffeted from behind. If you really want to get buffeted, take the side wind deflectors off - you'll find you can't breathe after 60 mph. This is commonly known as "Westfield nose". A rear mesh and perspex roll hoop wind deflector will help slightly, but it won't eliminate it. Full side doors work pretty well, but you do lose some fun IMHO as it can feel a bit claustrophobic. Side wind deflectors, a fashionable head scarf for the missus, and good sunglasses / goggles is how I tend to run, along with keeping a good hairbrush in the boot box. You need to enjoy the experience rather than fight it too much.1 point

Good to have another CVH in the fold, enjoy your new baby and the club. Don't be afraid to ask any questions, and be prepared for upgradeitis - it's a very contagious bug and we are good at helping others spend money!1 point

Thanks for replies again.. I've been thinking about this for 2 months or so and thought best to ask fellow petrol heads.. and even worse Westy owners - we are a certain breed I feel?! I've decided i'm sticking with Westys, i'll do track days and a sprint. These sort things will make me far happier than a posh car I'd worry about all the time including paying for it! Right back to the garage for a celebration upgrade.. Thanks!1 point
