We got there and made a little car show of our own It is a very good show with lots of Fred Dibnah moments, made better if you take an ex- lorry mechanic with you. Martyn was a walking history book and was full of good anecdotes. With so much to see it was 2pm, we had not even got round to the classic cars, when Bioman rang to check where we were. Him and Liz had managed to squeeze a spare couple of hours so we arranged to meet them at 3 pm in Bakewell. Steam moments and car moments, a slightly! modified Mexico2 points

We met in Matlock, Tricky came to show his suntan off after his holiday and Martyn and Sue came. I was a bit niffed because I had forgot my camera, but Martyn quickly stepped in and offered to be cameraman for the day with his phone. Tricky just gave me a wicked, devilish look and offered to take some photo's too, and yes I am worried! A few weeks ago I introduced the new Monster Minion on Tricky's car, well today I can introduce the Monster Twinion. I got a bit jealous and had to have one too, so look out for them. Matlock Martyn having an artistic moment. Can you spot the Monster Twinion? Then we took the short journey to the Steam Rally.....2 points

The best kind of fault- a free to fix one. Dodgy throttle sensor connection - blame the idiot that fiddled with it while fitting an oil cooler! The fuelling was fine as that's based on manifold pressure, but the ignition was retarding to try and hold an 1100 idle at part throttle... Thanks for helping with the recovery, Pete!2 points

Back to the Type 9 box. The 4 speed had a reputation in its day, but the 9 was thought to be a bodge. Mine has worked well until yesterday, when it decided to go into 3rd instead of 5th. Not good at 120 mph, but its proved that the engine's good to over 9,000 rpm And there's nowhere left to drive it properly on public road1 point

The only things I hate aren't really because of the car, they're the things I hate about driving in modern Britain. These things mean I have to drive the car in late evenings if I really want to actually have an enjoyable blat without a) someone trying ruin my day b) someone trying to kill me. What I love is just the fact it's not your typical eurobox, it's something most people will never understand and it fits my personality to a tee.1 point

We picked up Bioman and took the big A6, posing through Bakewell centre and then Buxton centre. It is a nice road to drive but other traffic uses it and you just never seem to get going, so it served well to remind me why I like the back roads. We headed South and floored it, well it was national speed limit. Past Dragon's Back for the views, floored it through the one way traffic lights and then I had a thought. Checked it with hubby, got the OK, and headed for the tunnel. It was a 3 point turn and back through again. Tricky's new exhaust sounded AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME behind me. It so needed filming just for the sound, why oh why did I forget my camera. Martyn was behind me on the way back through the tunnel and we passed a parked white van as we came out of the tunnel. He came flying out saying 'you get a Vann up your bottom' it was a few minutes before I worked out that he meant a Martyn Vann and not the parked white van I did say anything could happen today didn't I? excitement over we made our way through the alpine looking Ilam village to the Bentley Brook beer garden for a brew. What a laugh we have had, thank you to everyone for coming, especially Bioman for making it fit your day.1 point

I hate the fact my rev counter wont work. I purchased a new VDO counter for £150, had three garages try to get it going, Purchased a Nodiz Pro as an upgrade on my car and that does not seem to work with the counter either. Spent a few hundred quid to date but still not working. Same with the speedo. it has had the bolts checked on the propshaft thing and the car has been calibrated over a measured mile but it wavers between 10 - 30mph and that's it. Apart from those two things I love everything about the car but the above really wind me up each time I go out.1 point

Agree. It's the one thing I dislike and will be getting upgraded over the winter with luck.1 point

Oi, I resemble that remark! The first year I put the heater in was a cold one. I did roughly 2000 miles, many on lovely bright sunny days. (Many of which were rather cold). The heater meant I could still feel my feet after the first hour or so.1 point

Well done, sounds like a nice spec. i know I'm not exactly on your doorstep but if there's anything I can do, just shout! Interesting to hear about the Mazda diff, I knew it was coming - it's been on the cards for a few years now, didn't realise it was just about "here" though. Honda S2000's seem to take the miles with no great issues - it is a Honda, after all. The proviso being that it's had good maintenance. They can, particularly pre the 2004 face lift, (later cars often known, not really correctly, as AP2 versions) use oil, this isn't a problem, it's not a "bad sign", (some VW engines have the same characteristic too), it just means the level should be kept an eye on. (You know, the way all of us over a certain age used to anyway, and the way the car's manuals always tell you too! ) Around 2006, the cars changed to drive-by-wire; the DBW system, which includes the throttle body and manifold is not suitable for the Mega S2000. Therefore so far, we've all gone for pre 2006 engines, with many opting to go for the 2004 to 2006 window, as this included a few small engine and gearbox upgrades. No problem going for an earlier drive-train though. One development that is due in the next few months might just widen that pool of available engines considerably, is the forthcoming Omex Throttle Body upgrade. This will replace the Honda single throttle body and inlet manifold with a pair of twin throttle bodies; this means that anyone with a 2006 onwards DBW car, can remove all the DBW hardware and replace them with the Omex kit. Or, alternatively, those of us that have already gone for the Omex TB upgrade will have the standard Westfield compatible throttle body and manifold for sale second hand. So once the Omex upgrade is available, we will suddenly have much easier access to another three years worth of S2000 donors!1 point

One suggestion: since you're getting a heater I'm pretty sure you don't need a heated screen. I ordered a heater and still got a heated screen which is a bit pointless, and also adds extra wiring, buttons on the dash, more expense replacing it if necessary and mine at least is a bit unsightly with silver foil visible at the edges. There may be a point to having both if you have a hood, or something else I've not considered, but I wouldn't bother if I was doing it again. Maybe you're not meant to get a heated screen if you order a heater but I did so it might be worth checking. Also, number one tip: when you pick up your kit take loads of photos of the showroom car in loads of detail so you can refer back to them. Hopefully the build manuals are better now but this was a great help to me.1 point
