  2. Hello. I have posted a few pictures of our day out on YouTube if you fancy having a look. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JMmhJ0yJ0Y The idea was to go for a picnic [ in the bag on the back of Buttercup I had a BBQ and a load of sausages ] before heading up to Rosedale Chimney which is Britains steepest road with a couple of interesting hairpins and fantastic views. The day started well with Nemesis and his wife having a good breakfast at the Highway Man café and it was here we met Marcus and his son and Shaggy and his daughter. We eventually set off to the seaside but unfortunately Shaggy had to leave the group due to a bad back and this left the three of us to continue. We headed towards Scarborough through Troutsdale which is a pretty, single track valley where you can go at 20mph and take in the views. From here we headed up to Olivers Mount where we stopped to admire the views by the war memorial and also have our pictures taken on the motorcycle race track. Then it was through town for a pose and set of a couple of car alarms before stopping on the sea front at my local café for a cuppa tea. Then it was onwards to Whitby on newly gritted roads at 10 MPH before having a serious pose through Whitby. We then headed north to Sandsend and this is where poor Buttercup would not start and needed to be taken home on a recovery wagon. Nemesis and Marcus continued to Rosedale Chimney after making sure we were ok and went up and down the hill on more than one occasion. . We started out as four and ended up as two but it was still an enjoyable day for me with great company. Hope you like the pictures.

  5. i was noise tested today at oulton park i have a bec westfield it came out at 93 db which was lower than ever before normaly its 97/98 but the last time i was tested at oulton it was 101 i have not made any alterations to the car at all i questioned this at the time as a fellow bec car was told he was over the noise limit i said that days reading must be wrong but they said the meter had been calibrated so he must make some mods to his car to pass , the inconsistency of noise test results is a real problem i expect some variation between different track day organisers but not the massive variation from the same organisers there excuse was today was that it depends on the weather ! so how can they fail you one day and pass you the next very confusing

  6. As my windows xp laptop was running like a dog, following a bit of encouragement from a couple of work colleagues I have now rebuilt it with Linux Mint 17.2 and just getting my head around it. Initially I had issues with not being able to connect to the internet either by wired or wireless but no sorted and wifi activated. Amazing how quick it is, although keep having to lookup how to do things - like add a link to Google Chrome onto the desktop etc. Any other users on WSCC?

  8. From the other side, I have a GBS Zero and I am extremely happy with it. When I was looking, I narrowed my search down to a Westfield or the GBS but, at the time, I couldn't afford the first 2 modules of a modular build which I was told was the way they were doing things then. I went with GBS as I could buy a starter kit and buy the rest of the parts as I needed and could afford. Had Westfield offered me the starter kit, I probably would have one now, but that isn't how it panned out. Chassis wise, the cars are very similar, the main difference is a full fibreglass body on the Westfield against aluminium and GF on the GBS. Also, the GBS needs more 'building' which I did enjoy. There is also no build manual but plenty of build blogs to follow. The Zero is constantly being developed and is now at version 5. Mine is Zetec powered and is more than enough for fast road use and touring. There are a couple of Zeros with S2000 engines in, so it has been done. I would suggest a visit to GBS as well, just so you have all the facts to make your choice.

  11. Some places have static tests at 2/3rds max revs at 1m to a maximum limit and others have drive by noise meters. Your car looks to have a very short exhaust manifold and silencer so I think it will be loud!

  12. To me it is wrong. Whatever the reason for her dislike of her mothers will, they have had little contact for over 37 years after the daughter married a man her mother disapproved of, she had no right to expect inheriting anything at all. In her married life the daughter has knocked out 5 kids and has not bought her own home and if the reports are true lives on benefits. As a father I would be disappointed if that was my daughter. The mother had every right to leave the money she had earned and the assets she had to whom ever she wanted to. It is not up to us, or a judge to decide what should happen to the money. She was in sound mind, clearly told everyone what she was doing, vindictive or not, her choice. No doubt had she have known the debts this daughter would stoop to she would have given the money away before her death. I am no fans of the charities but in this case the decision is wrong and does set precedents that others will look to exploit.

  13. To be fair, any of us who build our own cars really should be using one of the many flavors of Linux shouldn't we....DIY and all that. Personally, I'm with John K on this one. I'm too old and lazy now to learn how to live with Linux. I've done a few specific installations of it for various tasks but for home use, I'm perfectly happy with an old XP laptop for talking to the cars, and an iMac with VMWare XP, Win7 and Win10 virtual machines for those times when the Mac isn't the right tool. Probably as much a case of what you grew up with, so to say. In my defence, my first experiences of home computing were with a home-made 6502 based micro with 1k of RAM and a hex keypad for input, so I've done my time!

  14. Here in Scotland Scots law says children can claim up to one third of the moveable estate (between them) even if disinherited by the Will. Only way round this is to have no cash or shares or life assurance and then have all assets in property and a Will leaving all to the wife. Possibly spend all your cash and get more from equity release on the house and then do a George Best--spend all on women, fast cars and booze and just waste the rest.

  15. A great comment from Pete, who is obviously fully paid up to the... "Crash through the gates of Hell in a burning Westfield (that is still on finance)" school of responsible parenting...
