  1. Just a quick hello after letting my membership laps for the last 18 months or so i have just rejoined ( thanks to Mark for sorting out the invoicing allowing me restore my old membership), having been unable to shift the westfield bug that i have tried so hard to resist i am now looking to fill my garage with a new car. I have previously owned a pinto powered tiger cat and a dunnell zetec powered narrow body that can be seen in my profile picture, unfortunately the narrow was a total loss when I avoided a transit van driven by a blind man down a country lane fortunately I was tougher than the car and after a brief spell of titanium upgrades am back to fighting fitness so if any one knows of a cure for the westfield bug please let me know before the bank accounts been emptied see you on the road soon Cheers Alan

  4. Lyonspride - FAME (Fatty acid methyl ester) which is diesels equivalent of bio ethanol and Ethanol are blended at a refinery / terminal level. Additives injected at loading rack, nothing is delivered to a forecourt except finished product. Bob - bit of an oversimplification I think - a lot of finished product (most?) imported from overseas these days.

  5. Brilliant run John - I wish I could drive like that and there are even a few moments when time could be shaved off What this vid shows is that 4 gears are more than enough when you have an engine with big power and torque. It also show that with the right driver there is little gear change time difference between an H-pattern dog box and a sequential box. Also Barry showed us a couple of years ago that a synchro box can win the championship. The benefit of a sequential box is the addition of flappy paddles and electronic assistance in engine management for downshifts (little benefit on up-shifts) which enables the driver to focus more on braking and the line into the corner. The other electronic aids (e.g. traction control, launch control, etc) all work with an H-pattern box.

  6. Correct. I guess the class record would normally set the target time. Indeed John may be competing against targets he set himself last year. There is never a perfect system but target times make it fairer if few in your class or few entered on the day

  7. I'm probably going to regret it in the afternoon (dozing off in front of the telly), but I'll try to get there too for that time. I mean, how could I resist getting up at 7am on a Saturday for a leisurely drive
