  1. The Westie arrived, took it for a run before the sun set (must remember woolly hat next time), can't stop grinning!

  2. I spoke to the DVLA about this and they told me no MOT was required for 3 years on a new registration, but their system is not set up to deal with Q registrations as there are several different ways a car can be issued with a Q plate, not just newly built kit cars. They assured me that if I took my documents to a post office and pointed out the date of first registration it should be straightforward and if I had any problems to get the post office to phone them as they have a direct contact for any taxation issues that they may encounter in their business. Suffice to say I had no problems!

  3. ah a good old what fuel thread, usually i only see these on the z4 forum where the only fuel you can use is the finest super unleded filtered though peruvian peseants and distilled in the glaciers of mount mordoor (or optimax) tuned on chavda finest for me as it was the only station i could find near the tuners ..... laughing. but your right use what it was tuned using.

  4. Quite possible for it to be different front and rear as the front uprights would have been sourced from a different car to the back axle. Assuming they are Ford, then they changed from 7/16" UNF to M12x1.5 in the mid 1970's. It is easy to change from imperial to metric, or back as the studs are interchangeable. Knock the old studs out of the hubs and draw the new ones in. Should be possible to do it in situ as long as the new studs are not too long. Jen

  5. Someone did persevere and get a "definitive" answer from the then DVLA a few years ago. And that was no MOT required till three years from date of first registration. But that doesn't mean automated systems are set up correctly, or that many of those working in the system haven't misunderstood!

  7. I have checked that unleaded is OK, so that's all good. Stick any old diesel in the Octavia and it runs fine, just thought this little thing might be more fussy!

  10. Looks like a lovely route. If you fancy a slight diversion after Fort William, go straight on instead of heading for Mallaig. Turn onto the A87 at Glengarry and the next 12 miles or so are on the best road I've ever driven in my Westie! Matt

  11. Additionally, a separate bank account that the other 1/2 can't see through direct banking is also helpful (as are cash transactions). I have an old account I used to use for work expenses that's come in very handy! I've also used the '2 invoice' trick too - a real one to pay against and a 'sanitised' one to show the boss! Matt

  13. Thank you John (Panda) for giving me a call last night and speaking again today. Thank you to everyone who has inputted. I'm going to try the software suggested by John then, if not successful, bite the £1,000-£2,500 bullet and send the disks off to Kroll Ontrack. I love this club, so supportive in another hour of need and this time it's not even Westfield related!
