  12. Looks good Colin, much better than the strap I bought this morning and have thrown in the bin again this afternoon. It was horrible to bend and looked very blue peter. So back to plan A and re-drill the bracket And now aligned the silencer parallel to the body And re-did the cardboard template The silencer body looks to sit within the confines of the wheel arch 'line', and if I'm honest, I think this looks better than what I had yesterday

  16. Maybe I am confusing things with IVA rules? Or maybe with some rule that applies to tyres not sticking out beyond the wheel arches? I do realise that the further away from the body, the more difficult for passengers, but my wife won't go near it, and my son is just as tall as me, with legs longer than humanly possible, so he probably won't have any issues there Just had a browse and found a picture. It was quite far from your bodywork too. Your comment about the tab on the bracket had me looking at another picture a bit closer and I think I can safely trim a bit of the tab and re-drill the hole, getting it more than a cm closer to the bodywork

  18. And there was me just thinking you'd got a portrait if the car hidden in your loft, a portrait that mysteriously shows it getting dirtier and dirtier the more you drive it. I hadn't realised you'd gone straight to the full on possessed machine! Though it would explain a lot. I love seeing Westfields getting used like this! (I hate all those "dry miles only" comments you see sometimes!) and you prove that you can have your cake and eat it, with both a car used all the time, and keeping it in concours condition!

  19. Bit of a leg twister for passengers, IYSWIM, the other, probably main risk, will be clouding it on kerbs etc when parking. Normally you aim to have the silencer parallel to the main part of the tub, not the tapered front section. I'm not aware of it specifically being an MOT failure though.

  20. Yup, that sounds like Land Rover !! our 92 Defender is a mixture of metric, imperial and pre-historic It may be just the mounting bolts that changed from imperial to metric though (7/16 UNF to M12 apparently) and yes, 93/94 appears to be the changeover (200 to 300tdi engine) although I can't find any definitive part numbers but found this on one of the LR forums: There's no guarantee of course that if Westfield have used normal 6 point hex metric bolts on the metric calipers, then you may think they're imperial based on the above !! Still not sure if pads are different though between the imperial and metric caliper - your best bet is to trace round them or ask the likes of JGS if the pads are actually a different size between the two types (I suspect not but nothing about Land Rovers surprises me). Bi-hex M12 bolts look like this http://www.jgs4x4.co.uk/land-rover-defender-discovery-1-range-rover-brake-caliper-bolt-x-2-ftc3375.html I know it probably doesn't help, but this is one of the reasons I've changed a lot the parts on my Westie so that I know what things are and where to get replacements (plus I love shiny new upgrades as well ). I will confess that for quite a while I was convinced the brake fittings were 3/8 UNF and not M10 metric (fine if you use the same size at any one point - just don't mix them up - how do I know? ..... )

  23. Maybe that's why my rear tyres are so worn.... the extra weight of a passenger most of the time
