  1. We have a new member in the Essex Area called Bertie the Blat Bear, he has joined to enjoy passenger rides in the Westfields of Essex and would like to meet as many members as possible. Being of the younger generation he likes taking selfies and would like you to help him take lots of pictures of him on his travels. He is also very fussy and refuses to travel in anything other than a Westfield. Once he has travelled around with the Essex members he plans to visit as many members of the other WSCC areas as possible, again only travelling by Westfields. Lets see where he gets to and what kind of photos he takes

  3. Seeing how I got him going, seemed rude not to go out for a run. 15 miles in the sun, OK it was blinking cold, but it blew out all the cobwebs. Got the smiles, got the waves and the lady at the local petrol station was genuinely pleased to see him again. Now just need a new gearbox...

  4. Be really, really careful with acetone around grp. Personally, I'd never use it in a cosmetically important area, though if old and well cured you are usually OK. Acetone is essentially the solvent for the un-cured gel coats and resins used in the Grp bodywork, even with cured stuff it can soften or cause blemishes in extremes. (Acetone is great though for cleaning a spot of grp up that you intend to bond something to.) For just getting tape marks off, meths, tar spot remover, or even specific label removers all work fine, plus as found, WD40 has some pretty good cleaning qualities plus is pretty mild and un-reactive in our sort of uses.

  5. Just realised, this thread covers both halves of the old engineers saying. You only need two things in life, WD40 and duct tape. If it does move and it shouldn't use the duct tape... If it doesn't move and it should, use the WD40...

  7. Well the good news is all the marks have gone having spent 3+ hours of sanding and buffing, it's now back the way it was so really pleased thanks for all the tips and advice I received from: Dave, Pete, and Mark from Westfields who I nipped in to see this morning to show him the damage, Mark was pretty convinced it was something thrown up from the road and not something I had used, anyway lot's of rubbing and buffing and all is well, happy days. Petemac.

  8. He is a fine looking chap and I think I will copy his outfit for the colder days. And just for interest put "blat bear" into Google and look at the image results. And no... it is NOT like googling "mega squirt" which you should not do on a work computer... You might just recognise a few usual suspects..!

  9. What gets me the most with insurance companies is the continuing punishment for loyalty. For the last few years I have had to tackle Direct Line because my tintop renewal premium has been several tens of pounds more than exactly the same cover quoted online as a new customer. Always reduced without question and always competitive after reduction, but the profit in creaming loads of lazy/busy/uninformed people must be higher than p*ssing off and risking the loss of long-term customers. Really shouldn't be allowed.

  10. A few of the Essex Area will be heading up to Stoneleigh early on the Sunday morning with at least one returning Sunday night and some returning Monday morning. So if you are in Essex or Kent and heading up to Stoneleigh and want to join in, put your name down and join our little convoy Pete Tim returning Sunday night Mike

  11. Sorry Mark perhaps I've done something wrong (new to this). This is what I thought I'd sent; Hi, are they westfield sportscars supplied items? Post office red? For larger (15 inch wheel) or smaller (13 inch wheel)? Many thanks.

  12. Top Gear as we've come to know it yes, I also hope a channel with the budget does go for it, too. No reason why the BBC, can't reformat and bring a Top Gear back. That said, take away the terrible trio and their fans, plus those that continued watching them because of the early Clarkson/Hammond/May years and I'm not sure if there is actually an appetite for a magazine format motoring program on a main terrestrial channel. While le everyone says they want to watch a program about more regular cars, road test etc, I'm not sure if viewing figures really back that up.

  20. I genuinely don't think this is some sort of tin foil hat conspiracy. If they'd have wanted him out, they could have just not renewed the contract at the end of the month. To be blunt, now dont read if easily offended, the WSCC demographic is hardly typical of society these days. We're a bunch of dinosaurs and times have changed! Mildy racist jokes, don't OFFEND me (as a younger member of the club) they just aren't FUNNY anymore... Time for TG 3.0 Edit to add: Aw crap im getting dragged in...no further comments from me!

  21. There have been flashes of the old form in the last few years, but yes, broadly, I'd agree the India special marked a real turning point. It's also the point that things with his wife Frances really went south. Before that, she was his manager and although she was the one that moulded him in to the more aggressive persona that went with Top a Gear 2.0, (compared to the old TG), she was also the one that would stop him in his tracks tell him when he was about to go to far. Since then, everything steadily spiralled further and further into caricature.

  22. I enjoyed watching top gear and I'll miss Clarkson from the presenting team. That said however the show has IMO been lacking new ideas for quite a while now so if the show continues into the future then I'm looking forward to a new team of presenters which hopefully will bring with them some fresh ideas and a maybe a different presenting style or format to the show.

  23. Yes, I was about to post to the same effect. In fact, on T1 there were 5 of us in class 6 (if you count the Caterham R500 of Stephen Laing) all crossing the line at 89.4 mph!

  24. We'll have to get Bertie in Pete Goulding's sprint car, that should give him the highest speed award, 160mph at Hethel!

  26. Might be a good contest in there somewhere. Total number of different Westfields he travels in / different local areas / fastest track speed he reaches / total distance mailed and driven etc. by the end of year? Each person who drives him kicks in a fiver to the club's charity of the Air Ambulance for a chance to win a club prize like a free renewal? Give it some thought and let me know if I can help.
