  2. That's about what I think, too. Short haul on budget carriers, particularly as a first officer is not glamorous and it's hard to move into the major airlines because there's so much competition. If you do get there, long haul is a few minutes of fun at each end of the route interspersed with hours and hours of tedium unless something catastrophic happens, which is vanishingly rare, and that's when you might be called on to earn your money. If flying was hard, they'd get the ground crew to do it.

  4. I got 15 hours into my PPL at Leicester Aeroclub a few years ago but started getting too expensive. Was £122 an hour back then. I went to an open day at Oxford Aviation once to look at what it takes to be a commercial pilot. Thats around £80k for the ATPL license, which is frozen until you reach 1500 hours flight time. Then about another £20k to specialise in a particular plane. Then you get a job as a first officer with Ryan Air for about £30k a year.

  9. get the mighty cross flow. I'm a small chap and it was enough to chug me to Class A victory podium in the speed series last year (not something i like to mention too often) but it's simple - the cross flow is a superb engine for your first westfield - easy to work on and damn quick in the hands of talented pilots.... Any help I can give let me know James (Class A victor 2014)

  11. Most decent ones only trigger once then will not trigger again for a certain time period, I know mines like that. It's aimed at being safer/more discrete in stop start traffic. I went through several MOTs with it on, though I always fit mine so that bypassing it takes a few minutes if needed. Many production cars have flashing rear brake lights under hard use now anyway, so when it just does it occasionally, then behaves normally, the tester just kind of dismisses it as being too eager on the brakes!

  12. Hi Di Hi Pete, Good to see you active on the roads this winter, keep it up. Tis a common problem with oil in the plug holes mate, just sloppy filling into the filler cap or the gasket gone tits up. Clean out the oil with paper towel or rags, check the cam cover nuts are the requriide torque. If the problem persists change the gasket.
